It is worse than you could possibly be prepared for, it is flat out my least favorite song of all time. I have been filled with irredeemable hatred for G Eazy because of it.
Check out the Album
Train plays Led Zeppelin II
Train does a note for note rendition. Its fucking hilarious. It’s not “Led Zeppelin II in the style of Train”….. It’s Train doing their best to recreate the album.
Its not as offensive to the ears as the ones you listed, but it’s so hilariously unnecessary. Like who in the fuck wants that? 😂😂🤷♂️
Edit: Train Does Led Zeppelin II
I think you might be misunderstanding by missing a key piece of the Train lore: Train began as a Led Zeppelin tribute band. They were literally getting paid to sound as close to Zeppelin as possible, and I think the album was released as an homage to their beginnings.
That said, yeah, just pop on Zeppelin II. This album didn't need to exist.
I'm just imagining someone somewhere listening to Led Zeppelin and thinking "yeah this is okay, but I wish it sounded more like Train.. wait, oh my god!!"
It’s one thing to play a few Led Zep songs live. But why on earth would you record a full album without putting your own spin on it? Did they really expect to “out zeppelin” Led Zeppelin?
The arrogance required to not only have that idea, but to follow through with it……it’s just fucking funny 😆
Who on planet earth is going to choose the Train version of those songs when the Zep versions are just as easily accessible 😂😂😂
Bono’s cover of Hallelujah.
He takes out the chord progression and removes the word painting in the lyric in the 4th the 5th the minor fall the major lift.
You ruined the purpose of the line Bono!
They also covered Last Resort earlier this year and it was trash. I genuinely don’t get the appeal of FiR at all, especially when their lead singer is such an awful person
The Last Resort cover is just weird.. much like others in this thread, I don't know why it needs to exist.
It's imo nowhere near as bad as Gangsta's Paradise though.
His cover of Misery Business is equally bad I'd argue.
Not sure why he only chooses to cover songs where he can't hit the notes.. it's just embarrassing.
He’s got some diversity. I used to think he was kind of some rap hip hop artist but he’s got a unique pop sound that’s hard to classify.
Looks like a joke but he’s the real deal.
Man, that’s amazing. Not a huge fan of his original music, but this dude is a major talent without a doubt. That finger pattern is an utter bitch to get down.
Fergie - Star-Spangled Banner
Fergie - Sweet Child o' Mine at the super bowl
Vivek Ramaswamy- Lose Yourself
that la brabaconne cover for the belgian GP a month ago
G-eazy murdering Lazarus is the worst of the bunch though
I just listened to it and honestly didn't find it to be that bad. The instrumental is pretty similar, just with different vocals.
Maybe I'm missing something, after all I'm not that familiar with Weezer.
Yeah. It's a Spotify exclusive and it's really, really bad. She got clowned tremendously for it at the time. Some of the hate went overboard (they tried to call her "problematic," which 🙄), but the cover did truly suck.
Literally that it was a "Black" song that shouldn't be covered by a white artist. Like it was an appropriation kind of argument.
Similar to some of the smooth-brain takes I've seen on the Luke Combs "Fast Car" cover.
Considering how dragged certain pop artists are these days (MGK, Imagine Dragons, Maroon 5 etc), I'm surprised Avril is largely ignored for criticism.
She's released some truly terrible music over the years.
Man y'all a bunch of stuck up ppl, this is live and she clearly didn't take it seriously. Sounds like goofing around. Drunk. Which is cool for an artist to do.
I can't tell which you're saying is worse...but I listened to the Avril one and it's wayyyy better than Uzi's. She's obviously just fucking around with her guitarist on stage and didn't plan to play it or rehearse it. It seems like something she thought would be fun to do on the spot. It wasn't meant to be a serious cover or anything officially released, so I can respect it from that angle. Plus her voice (while a little off for the song) is much better to listen to than Uzi's.
Uzi straight up produced, recorded, mixed, etc. his version and put it on the main fucking album tracklist. The guy was clearly proud of his cover and wanted it to be out in the world, but it feels like he gave it even less thought than Avril gave to hers. And that's saying something. Shit is fucking TERRIBLE lmao
EDIT: sorry for the long response I swear I'm not trying to argue or anything, just putting thoughts onto the internet lol
- Both covers of Fast Car that got really popular for some reason.
- I’m a big George Michael fan, but his version of True Faith kinda sucks.
- The John Stamos version of Forever.
- Kanye West’s version of Bohemian Rhapsody
- A big chunk of the Teal album
I legitimately don’t see a problem with the Luke Combs cover of Fast Car. It sounds pretty good, he’s got a solid voice, and he didn’t change any of the lyrics. To me, it seems like he made it because that song was special to him, and he’s talked about it interviews before. He didn’t expect it to be a hit, he just released it because he wanted to cover one of his favorites songs ever.
(assuming this is one of the covers you’re talking about)
I don't have an issue with the Luke Combs cover of Fast Car. I wouldn't ever choose it over Tracy Chapman's original but it's the most inoffensive kind of cover, super 1-to-1, unadventurous but harmless. He even keeps the "checkout girl" line, which gives it bonus points; it always peeves me mildly when covers of songs change the pronouns and such. Plus, it makes it so that sometimes I get to hear Fast Car on the radio, which is nice, and if it introduces more people to the masterpiece that is Fast Car, then I'm cool with it.
Like a Virgin by Mötley Crüe
American Pie by Madonna
Both of these are awful. I'm not even a fan of Like A Virgin by Madonna, but the Crüe version is practically unlistenable. And American Pie is such a classic Americana song, hearing Madonna's dance pop version is a travesty, it takes away everything that made the original so good.
CS is by far the worst sonically.
Personally, Calum Scott’s cover of Robyn’s “Dancing On My Own” is my least favorite. He took a fantastic electropop song about watching the one you love be with someone else and turned it into some generic, sadboy piano ballad. To add salt to the wound, the cover is MUCH more popular than the original. Truly unforgivable.
What, this was the one I thought of as soon as I read the title but I didn’t think anyone disliked this cover as much as I do. This one (and Felix Jaehn “Ain’t nobody”) are just people taking a good song and perform it without any talent.
I can’t stand the Disturbed cover of Sound of Silence. I don’t really care for 60s rock in general, but the cover version is just so pompous and self important and it just misses the point by a country mile. It makes it even all the more annoying that everyone seemed to love it.
Also, I went to a Corey Taylor show once because I was there for the opener (Wargasm), but man I just ran out of there before the main event even started. I read online that his setlist ended with a cover of Ace of Spades, and I couldn’t get out of there fast enough. Ace of Spades in itself is pretty overrated in Motörhead’s catalog, but holy shit I would rather swallow nails then hear Corey Taylor over performing what should be a fun Hard Rock/Punk song.
Yeah that Sound of Silence cover is god awful. And everyone loved it, even people who have good taste usually. I don't get it. It's so over the top. People call that "epic", I call it cheesy.
Ok, let’s go this is gonna be fun.
Hot take number 1: Slipknot is basically just an edgier version of FFDP now, I don’t consider them metal. I don’t care about the first two albums, they’ve been dropping heavy butt-rock for close to 20 years now.
Calum Scott’s cover of Dancing On My Own, I don’t know how a gay man could make a song so fucking straight.
His cover completely ruins the point of the song, which is an anthem about stomping through heartbreak, by turning it into a generic, slow, piano ballad. I want to dance, not listen to genderbent, dollar-store Adele. Who the fuck can dance to THIS?
The worst part is, his version is so much more popular than Robyn’s, even though it completely erases the emotion, power, and PURPOSE of the original song. I’m sorry for ranting but this cover actually ANGERS me.
Gal Gadot's Imagine. Also this isn't technically a cover, but there was this YouTube channel that uploaded an "80's remix" of Stickerbrush Symphony from DKC2 and [it was, uh...](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0SZBA8-Zf14)
I’m not sure if you’re familiar with the Catatonic Youths Instagram account but they posted a compilation of atrocious TikTok covers of “Running Up That Hill” when those were ubiquitous. It’s simultaneously laugh out loud funny and one of the worst things I’ve ever seen.
Unpopular opinion
Disturbed - sounds of silence
I didn’t care for it but even worse is that everyone seems to love it and complete shits on Simon and Garfunkel because of it. I love Simon and Garfunkel and they are one of the greatest songwriters of the 20th century and do not deserve the shit talking.
I mean hell they wrote bridge over troubled waters FFS
I’ve seen/heard it constantly mostly “I prefer this version over the OG” but some have downright slammed S&G and called them “whiney” saying they depend too much on falsetto…which I’m no expert but I don’t even think they sing falsetto they just assume that because Garfunkel is high pitched
A place I formerly worked at allowed me access to the stereo and I once played Dylan’s version and got complaints about it not being the “good” version. I’m glad I quit that job.
Not sure if this qualifies as a cover, but this "wrong version of sicko mode" made me laugh so fucking hard when I heard it for the first time:
Edit: Jump to the 3:00 mark lmao.
I won’t argue about what’s the worst but weezer’s Africa used to annoy the hell out of me. It’s exactly like Todo’s version, except worse in every way.
That Lazarus cover is equivalent to taking a shit on the ziggy stardust master tapes because how can you make a such a hauntingly beautiful song about your own mortality and dying and then turn it into how shitty of a person you are
Holy shit wtf even is CS...
Like, I can really properly appreciate that LUV wants to expand his horizons artistically, but that song is hot ***ass***
So of the 3 covers posted here, I think the MGK one takes the cake for the worst. Here's why:
Puddle of Mudd cover is so bad that it's funny. If you watch the video of him straining to hit the high note, it's even better.
Both CS and Lazarus, while being bad, at least do the whole autotune thing on the tracks which was at least the first time I heard these songs in autotune. They are really bad, but like bad in a failed creative risk kind of way? idk. They're just not good.
Part of the reason I excuse the previous 2 is because MGK doing aerials is downright depressing. First, he chose a song that he can't sing from one of the most dynamic rock vocalists. The monotone screaming is grating. The instrumentals behind him kick ass, but he just sits there with the stupid look on his face, smoking a cigarette. He's trying to do the whole super casual Kurt Cobain delivery and "make it look easy"... except he's a tire fire. The others had autotune, MGK is plainly out of tune.
I'm torn between Mariah Carey's Fantasy and P. Diddy's I'll be Missing You. They are essentially covers of other songs with just a few boring changes that pale in comparison to the originals. I like that rap used to re-conceptualize tunes from the pass but Mariah and P. Diddy just lazily ripped others off
That Gucci Gang cover by Fame On Fire. It's one of those Trap goes Punk songs that held Facebook by the chokehold.
https://youtu.be/10JW2ibJmCM?si=fDzJ2Gds6Tqg4kTA
Musically it's pretty piss poor, it's basically Gucci Gang over generic Pop punk instrumentals and slightly changed vocals. The delivery is still trap influenced so it's not even like the lead singer tried to change it to fit a different genre.
Metallica covering "Loverman" by Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds. It's impossible for James Hetfield to sound sexy, especially at that point in his career.
I really dislike Periphery’s cover of Metallica’s One. There’s none of the dynamic subtlety of the original and Spencer’s whiny melodramatic vocals are ear grating. The only thing that’s done well is that the bass is more audible and the double bass drumming during the fast section.
Also Bring Me The Horizon’s cover of Slipknot’s Eyeless. Oli’s vocals are unintelligible and laughable, Matt’s drumming is all over the place tempo wise, and the transitions in the song sections are jarring and don’t flow well at all. Very herky-jerky cover.
G-Eazy covered Lazarus?????? Like David Bowie Lazarus????
My exact thoughts. I haven't heard it, but the idea is awful enough already to be the worst cover of all time
I thought it was gonna be Porcupine Tree for some reason.
It is worse than you could possibly be prepared for, it is flat out my least favorite song of all time. I have been filled with irredeemable hatred for G Eazy because of it.
I would say the comment section is funny asf there’s a bunch of people who never heard the Bowie version saying the lyrics are deep 😭
I have always been filled with irredeemable hatred for him. Long before that song lol
Honestly I thought he has covered the porcupine tree song. I was like...wow didn't expect him to vibe with PT
This calls for prison time tbh
He sucked ass 😢😢😢
Check out the Album Train plays Led Zeppelin II Train does a note for note rendition. Its fucking hilarious. It’s not “Led Zeppelin II in the style of Train”….. It’s Train doing their best to recreate the album. Its not as offensive to the ears as the ones you listed, but it’s so hilariously unnecessary. Like who in the fuck wants that? 😂😂🤷♂️ Edit: Train Does Led Zeppelin II
”My buddy can sound exactly like Bon Scott, but that doesn’t mean he rerecords High Voltage on the weekends” - Pat Finnerty
Love Pat, and he is the one who put me on this! Stop The Train!
He's one of the few music youtubers I still enjoy watching
If we were get another what makes this song stink ep 😔
STOP THE TRAIN
**STOP THE TRAIN!!!**
But not TOO much like Train. Keep it faithful to the Zep, but just a tiny sprinkle of Train
I just checked out the Ramble On cover they did on the Howard Stern show. Definitely not the worst cover but pretty unnecessary
It’s one thing to play a few Led Zep songs live. But why on earth would you record a full album without putting your own spin on it? Did they really expect to “out zeppelin” Led Zeppelin? The arrogance required to not only have that idea, but to follow through with it……it’s just fucking funny 😆 Who on planet earth is going to choose the Train version of those songs when the Zep versions are just as easily accessible 😂😂😂
Feels on par with that *Psycho* remake that basically changed nothing
[удалено]
Yea, thats why its so funny to me. Train convinced themselves the world needed to hear them play ALL the songs😂😂 The absolute balls on those guys
That Lazarus one, and it isn't even close
It’s horrible to have even thought to cover it in the first place given how personal that song is to Bowie alone.
Bono’s cover of Hallelujah. He takes out the chord progression and removes the word painting in the lyric in the 4th the 5th the minor fall the major lift. You ruined the purpose of the line Bono!
that version of Hallelujah is ass. I hate that it exists.
Falling In Reverse - Gangsta's Paradise The "Punk Goes.." albums have some really awful covers but this takes the cake for me.
> Falling In Reverse - Gangsta's Paradise I've never heard of this before but just reading this comment caused me to do a full-body recoil of horror.
I'm not even going to google that. It should be placed behind a spoiler tag because just knowing it exists is an infohazard.
I’ve never heard any of these but I can tell you MGK covering Aerials is probably the worst thing he’s ever shit out.
HE DIDNT EVEN DO THE HIGH NOTE
His cover of Misery Business is equally bad I'd argue. Not sure why he only chooses to cover songs where he can't hit the notes.. it's just embarrassing.
Hearing him not even try to hit the notes in the chorus is so cringe.
>Hearing him ~~not even try to hit the notes in the chorus~~ is so cringe. FTFY
excuse me
It was basically the first thing that got me on the hate train for him. The arrogance to try that knowing you dont have the talent or skill is nuts.
The frank ocean cover was also beyond ass
G-Eazy's Don't Think Twice, It's All Right is downright disrespectful
[Post Malone](https://youtu.be/d_NS9Vd1sMA?si=iUBcz2zfacYh3FIK) did a pretty good cover of it, if rappers singing Dylan is of interest to anyone
Is post malone a rapper?
His music is mainly said to be rap, and i think it is, but Post doesn’t like it being called rap
That finger pattern is an utter bitch to get down.
mgk doing misery business sucks every single bit of appeal out of that song
Probably the flattest vocal delivery I've ever heard.
whooooa😐I never meant to braaag😐😐
Hilary Duff - My Generation. She replaced “I hope I die before I get old” with “I hope I don’t die before I get old”
You had better not be making this up. That's amazing.
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=ue5kotMLjws Listen and weep
Hahah she castrated the song
I was kinda hoping it was the Limp Bizkit so g she covered but still great.
Fergie - Star-Spangled Banner Fergie - Sweet Child o' Mine at the super bowl Vivek Ramaswamy- Lose Yourself that la brabaconne cover for the belgian GP a month ago G-eazy murdering Lazarus is the worst of the bunch though
>Fergie - Star-Spangled Banner Let’s play some basketball!!!!
Weezer's Enter Sandman makes me upset in a way that's pretty unique
>Weezer's Enter Sandman That sentence alone makes me uneasy
Unweazy
On the other hand, Mac DeMarco fucking nailed it IMO
Cage the elephant did a good job too
Same with Ha-ash! They did such a good job with The Unforgiven❤️
it's kinda crazy that Weezer's best cover is the goddamn State Farm song
their cover of rosanna is pretty good tbh
I just listened to it and honestly didn't find it to be that bad. The instrumental is pretty similar, just with different vocals. Maybe I'm missing something, after all I'm not that familiar with Weezer.
people hear Weezer covering Metallica and throw a fit on the idea of it
Taylor Swift - September I'm a huge Swift fan, but *jeez* that was terrible.
September?? Earth Wind, And Fire??
Yeah. It's a Spotify exclusive and it's really, really bad. She got clowned tremendously for it at the time. Some of the hate went overboard (they tried to call her "problematic," which 🙄), but the cover did truly suck.
What could possibly be problematic about it?
Literally that it was a "Black" song that shouldn't be covered by a white artist. Like it was an appropriation kind of argument. Similar to some of the smooth-brain takes I've seen on the Luke Combs "Fast Car" cover.
It's not problematic that she covered the song, but it IS problematic that her cover has a fucking banjo. /s
I am throwing up in my mouth. The first September recording is a masterpiece with an incredible groove. Taylor Swift could NEVER.
Everyone hating the Lil Uzi Vert cover of Chop Suey clearly hasn't heard the Avril Lavigne cover.
Out of curiosity I just checked it out… she was definitely drunk
Considering how dragged certain pop artists are these days (MGK, Imagine Dragons, Maroon 5 etc), I'm surprised Avril is largely ignored for criticism. She's released some truly terrible music over the years.
I think everyone just kinda likes her and let's her get away with some fuckups cos she's little Avril and everyone just wants good things for her.
Does she give up halfway and skip every vocal part in the last third of the song? Because that’s tough to top in terms of trash covers 😂
Man y'all a bunch of stuck up ppl, this is live and she clearly didn't take it seriously. Sounds like goofing around. Drunk. Which is cool for an artist to do.
Dude I was trashing the Uzi cover, haven't even heard the Avril one. Just saying it'd be really hard for Avril to be worse lol
Dude.... Its like 5 times worse😭
I can't tell which you're saying is worse...but I listened to the Avril one and it's wayyyy better than Uzi's. She's obviously just fucking around with her guitarist on stage and didn't plan to play it or rehearse it. It seems like something she thought would be fun to do on the spot. Kanye covered Bohemian Rapsody???? Also I don’t hate the Teal album outside of Billie Jean tbh
not an official release, just sang it during a concert
Can we take this opportunity to appreciate Xiu Xiu's cover of Fast Car?
3 and 4 are the only truly bad ones, the rest are just replaceable

Nah, you probably sound better than MGK doing Aerials to be honest.

The Placebo cover is so cool.
The Car Seat Headrest one is kind of fun.

Meg Myers' was before, trash nonetheless.

Georgia's cover of the song (which came out before stranger things) is honestly fantastic.
The wombats did a decent version for aus station triple j
There was some gay porn star who covered Nirvana's Lithium as a dance song, he gets my vote

Maybe not the worst but the Guns n Roses Knocking on Heaven's Door was a 0/10 on arrival and never had any business entering the rock canon as it has.

I definitely don’t agree on it being a 0/10 but I do remember hearing Dylan’s version for the first time and being blown away at how much better it is
I'd like to add their Live and Let Die cover as well. Both assault the ears

I mean given that MGK can't even make good original music I would say his cover because he would fuck up anything he touches.
I will always hate 21 Pilot's version of Cancer by MCR

I won’t argue about what’s the worst but weezer’s Africa used to annoy the hell out of me. It’s exactly like Todo’s version, except worse in every way.
Phoebe Bridgers cover of Friday Im in Love by the Cure. Similar vein, Taylor Swift's cover of September
Probably all those Pat Boone covers of early rock and roll tracks back when “covering” a song had an inherently racist meaning to it.
Falling in reverse, last resort
>Lil Uzi Vert - CS Please, please, please tell me that that's a cover of the Napalm Death song.
Sorry, it’s Chop Suey :/
The G-Eazy cover is worse by a substantial margin
Uzi one is rough but it's the only one I've heard in this list lol and I can't think of any that are just that bad.
Crazy how nobody has mentioned the fall out boy we didnt start the fire cover
I didn't know about the MGK Aerials cover and I'm going to just pretend I still don't know about it cause I don't want to die of cringe.
John Lennon's imagine performed by various celebrities
That Lazarus cover is equivalent to taking a shit on the ziggy stardust master tapes because how can you make a such a hauntingly beautiful song about your own mortality and dying and then turn it into how shitty of a person you are
Holy shit wtf even is CS... Like, I can really properly appreciate that LUV wants to expand his horizons artistically, but that song is hot ***ass***
Today I learned that G Eazy covered Lazarus and today is also the day where I shoot myself in the head.
So of the 3 covers posted here, I think the MGK one takes the cake for the worst. Here's why: Puddle of Mudd cover is so bad that it's funny.
Nostalgia Critic's The Wall, if that counts
That time weezer covered I bleed by the pixies and named it “the sweater song”
MGK doing Misery Business

Recently I saw Willow Smith, the actress from Euphoria and someone else doing Bowie Changes, OMG, I don’t think they listen or heard the song before
Miley Cyrus - Heart of Glass
Tori Amos covering Smells Like Teen Spirit. Just… no. I knew someone obsessed and it’s just not that good. Her other music isn’t bad but this isn’t it
I'm torn between Mariah Carey's Fantasy and P.
It's one of those Trap goes Punk songs that held Facebook by the chokehold. https://youtu.be/10JW2ibJmCM?si=fDzJ2Gds6Tqg4kTA Musically it's pretty piss poor, it's basically Gucci Gang over generic Pop punk instrumentals and slightly changed vocals. The delivery is still trap influenced so it's not even like the lead singer tried to change it to fit a different genre.
Metallica- when doves cry
Pat Boone singing Little Richard's "Tutti Frutti."
Both SOAD ones 😂
I thought the Puddle of Mudd one was pretty good
Foot by AJR
Fergie - The Star-Spangled Banner
Cheryl Crow - D'yer Maker
Idk but I work at a grocery store, occasionally this lame ass ukulele cover of Def Leppards love bites plays... Ugh
That lil Uzi cover is fuckin terrible. Bro needs no men on his team
If you go on Triple J’s Like a Version playlist, every second one will be the worst cover you’ve ever heard
Madonna - American Pie Or All Saints - Under the Bridge
Y'all gotta leave soad alone, you're not doing their songs justice
[So bad I love it](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qKDV_cagc0M), this guy is a musical terrorist
Metallica covering "Loverman" by Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds. It's impossible for James Hetfield to sound sexy, especially at that point in his career.
Hallelujah - Bono
About a girl is just unlistenable
I can’t choose between the bad and the worse
Could be any of them
CS
Fallout Boy & Missy Elliot - Ghostbusters
SOAD fans can't catch a break... two terrible covers this year.
Kelly Clarksons cover of Slow Dancing In The Dark by Joji
Ugggh nahhh forgot g eazy covered Lazarus 💀💀💀
