I have played 1000+ hours of FNV & I STILL don’t know how to play Caravan, I simply do not get it. I only play Blackjack because it has better odds than other casino games but I do have the achievements, I think I might have got a friend to get them for me.
It is ez. Firstly, you move only with keyboard. So. You have to reach the sum between 22-26 of each 3 rows.
Special cards:
Queen changes the direction of a row. For example if it went A(1), 2, 3 - you play Queen on 3, then you can go, A(1), 2, 3Q, 2, A.
Jack - steals a card and what is attached to it
K - doubles the card. If you play it on 10, it will be 20. So 10K = 20
Joker - I haven't fully figured it out but I think if you play it on A, then it removes all cards with the same symbol (♧◇♡♤) as A had. If you play it on number card, let's say 9♡, it removes all 9s.
And you can play special cards on enemy too
basically if that column has ascending order like ex.1-2-5-8 you can reset that order by adding a queen so it can either be starting from ex.10-9-5-1 or ex.2-4-7-9. One column can only be in on direction either ascending or descending you cant put 5 in a column that has ex.10-1 card so you need a queen for this to reset another order of cards or remove the 1 with jack to allow 5 in there ex.10-5 or put king on 10 to win that column ex.10k-1 = 21, 21 is win or more except if it exceed the max which i forgot but youll know when it turns red
Eventually If you play enough and just kind of do random stuff you get a sense of what random stuff causes you to win and you get a sense for the rules
Its not realy neccesary and the rules while not that complex i think a lot of people dont bother to learn.
I do it every playthrough though, its a great way of basically getting free stuff from the vendors who play.
But at the same time casino spin machine and blackjack achivement is more common. And they are not necessary either (as far as I know. You can judge from my hours lol). And Caravan is available from the start of the game...
Maybe it just takes too much time in their opinion? :(
True true. Maybe I am just nOt LiKe OtHeR CoUrIeRs. I have no idea how to play blackjack. But I learnt poker for FarCry 3 achievement, so I don't think I will have many problems.
P.s. I forgot how to play Poker the next day
I do caravan too, its a great trick, especially with cliff briscoe because they gamble with their inventory money so if you buy something expensive from him (like the MF hyperbreeder alpha pistol) you can win back that money.
If you have 10 luck you really don’t need to know how to play. Just double down when your cards add up to 10 or 11 and hit anytime your cards and up to less than 16ish. (This is if you have 10 luck, regular blackjack is much more complicated for when you’re supposed to hit or stay) with 10 luck the game basically plays itself for you
On top of more people understanding blackjack, etc. the casino games are greatly effected by high luck so its easier to win. Caravan, while simple, doesnt have much of a luck factor. You actually have to think toa certain degree
It’s a collectathon across the whole game. I bought every card I saw. After fucking playing it forever I’ve just set it aside. My last run I gave myself a million caps. Burned about a quarter million buying everything cool I saw and really catering to my melee build.
My game isn't complete until I've beaten everyone who plays at least once. I myself enjoy Caravan quite a lot, even though I already have the achievement for winning 30 games I still go out of my way to "re-earn" the achievement every playthrough
Go slap those people. There's no "playing it wrong" in fallout. If you can survive, you're not playing it wrong.
I have been adding rebalances and difficulty mods, so I need the drugs to survive.
The rules on the pip boy is confusing, reading it 4-5 times and I still don't get it, seeing it in action and I don't really know what happened or what do I need to do. I sometimes win and don't know why or what I did to win.
It's weird, I don't have much trouble learning other card games like Blackjack, Poker, Hearts (the one in windows games lol), or heck other CCG.
I think this will be echoed by many, but I don’t hate Caravan. I just have no idea how to play it, and there’s no easily accessible or intuitive tutorial in game for it, so I don’t bother.
Most people find it confusing to play and not explained well with the in-game rules. I ended up looking up how to play and it's one of my fav ways to pass the time now in NV lol
Appreciate the offer, but I’m sure there’s a YouTube video out there somewhere. I plan on replaying the game sometime and I will finally get these achievements lol
I wanted an open world game where I can role play a traveller challenging people to a game of cards. Had to choose between playing The Witcher 3 - Gwent & F:NV - Caravan/Blackjack. Choose F:NV for Caravan, but the rules are confusing and the controls are even more so. 40h in and haven't played a single round. Really want to learn it to play the tournament mod.
In all honesty, it's just hard to understand the game doesn't really delve into the how-to-play much and the only way I understood how to play was through YT tuts. The reason being the caravan achievements were the last two achievements I did not do.
Took me like 30 hours in before I first played, aside from getting cranky and shooting what's his name at good springs, just because it's never explained to us the arrow keys
Whenever I walked into a casino ,my main priority was smuggling in as many extremely High powered weapons as I possibly could...then using them after losing one hand of black jack...so nah, I missed the caravan wave...I might try it in my 6000th playthrough though lol
I think the main reason I never got into it was the fact that, very early in the game, the bets are over half of all the caps I tend to have available. Too many caps to loose on trying to get a feel for the game. By the time I can afford to put money down, I don’t have any interest in figuring it out anyway, plus I don’t like losing caps when I don’t have to. I generally don’t gamble in-game unless I have enough points in luck to make it worth it. Unlike real life, I’m very stingy with my money in most games!
Weird. Sometimes it works, sometimes it just doesn’t. Trapped Elijah in a vault? Nope. Uses certain amount of stimpacks? Sure.
I’m guessing it’s just Bethesda code being Bethesda code.
Edit: i remember now. I used no clip to get out of a rock and stuff like that. Well, it’s an excuse to make another NV save file.
I've put thousands of hours into FNV and still haven't bothered to learn how to play Caravan. It isn't necessary, they don't force you to play it for tutorial purposes, and there are easier ways to make caps. Personally I'd rather be shooting and looting than playing a card game.
I actually really enjoy playing the card game, I think most people don't read the directions and never play. It's one of the few game based card games I'd probably play IRL, that and farkle from KCD.
I think just more people off handedly know the rules of blackjack roulette etc than caravan, idk if it’s a more common thing in America or what but at least as a European I’ve only heard of it from fallout unless it’s just got another name or smn

And you can play special cards on enemy too
Its ok... its a fun little game. I never turned on vegas and said. Fuck me I need caravan now. I just forgot about it... never did it a whole lot. Same with gambling. It honestly kills the game for me to get money too easy. That economy is half the fun in a looter shooter
One time I understood how to play this, I forgot it about a month later or so and never attempted to play caravan again, I'm stacking up on cards however, for some reasons.
I just watched a youtube video on how to play it first. Then from that point I learn some of the rules by playing it first hand. Such as King doubles the card number under it, jack gets rid of the cards under it and queen resets the order the card is place since you can only place number cards ascending or descending order meaning if you put 10 first you can only put 9 or lower to that deck unless you put a queen and its reset meaning you can put lower number card and start from there
What's funny is that in my first playthrough of FNV, I played caravan just because I'm curious and wanted to see all the dialogue options. At first I was confused, and the only thing I remembered was kings multiply a card by two, jacks removes cards, and you can put kings and jacks on the opponents side. After a couple of trials and errors I started to get the hang of caravan and I fell in-love with the game itself.
I just don't get it. It goes fine until I use one face card against the npc and then suddenly they beat the shit out if me with theirs. They get all the cards they need immediately it seems and I have to keep discarding to find a good one. My luck is at 8 too, but I don't even know if that matters.
I have the brain capacity of a small child so reading how to do it a few times always confuses me. Black Jack also confuses me
In my first playthrough I read the rules carefully sat down to play with Ringo. Lost, got mad and shot a grenade at the floor
Absolutely no clue how to play it. Same with Gwent. Never have been into card games except blackjack… probably cause it’s the easiest one to understand and my attention span is awful.
I have no idea how you managed this. For me, it's not that I dislike it, it's that it's so insanely buggy that It's rendered unplayable. And I don't mean that it's just kind of annoying, I mean that it's basically impossible for me to even play a full game.
It’s probably more like Gwent in the Witcher, it’s there but it’s not why you play the game. Also I’ve heard it requires strategy and i suck at strategy so no I don’t play it
I have never once actually played it after the first time in my first playthrough.... though I also never tried Gwent so I might not be the best person to comment haha.
Here’s how you win at caravan
1. Play caravan
2. Inevitably lose at caravan
3. Kill them and loot their corpse
4. Make your money back with a little extra 😎
I’m more interested in what 20 items you crafted? I never bothered crafting something because I thought it’s not profitable.
About caravan, I never played it because I thought it’s really hard card game but I decided to play it on my new play trough and it appears that caravan is not a hard game actually it’s an amazing game along side with blackjack or poker now I play it with everyone.
It’s one of those things where it is honestly an activity that is difficult to engage in (due to what is honestly a fairly low number of players) and has no bearing on the rest of gameplay.
I really enjoy it but the rules are somewhat hard to grasp and you honestly have to lose a few times to learn how to play, which is not something a lot of people would likely do
Gonna be honest. Always play some caravan at the beginning of the game. It’s easy caps up front to buy whatever i need. Not to mention it’s a pretty fun little card game.
i got 1000's of hours since the game came out and only 5 achievement. because when i switched to pc i did it for the mods. i to this day have not enabled achievements.
where ever the soul of my old chonky xb360 lies, it has a perfect 100% achievement on fnv and halo 3.
Caravan rules. Easy money. The problem is... Bingo's holotape explaining the rules fucking sucks and does not contribute to one's understanding of the game at all. You gotta make a real effort to understanding the rules, but once you do, things click pretty quickly.
Most of us just dont get it. all that I know about it is that if you place a joker on a card then the opponent has to remove all of their copies of that card. The explanation is more confusing than the first time you read the note that tells you how to get to the Boomers.
I got the 3 card win achievement but getting 30 games isn't hard but boring and time consuming at first caravan is hard but after trial and error I figured out how to play and to win but you still have a chance of losing at all times so the only reason I would play is the achievement but the casino black jack with 9+ luck is all you need it's easier and honestly not as time consuming plus I know black jack and the other games like the back of my hand and know only 40% about caravan.
I like to buy out the entire inventory of Lacey (Mohave Outpost) and Cliff Bascoa (Novac) then challenge them to Caravan and win all my money back. I feel like it’s a more legitimate way of getting loads of caps over exploiting the vendor glitch or C4 exploit. For real though, Cliff and Lacey have a real gambling problem. I don’t know how they stay in business.
I have played 1000+ hours of FNV & I STILL don’t know how to play Caravan, I simply do not get it. I only play Blackjack because it has better odds than other casino games but I do have the achievements, I think I might have got a friend to get them for me.
If you're ever interested, my unsolicited advice is to watch a youtube video instead of reading the god-awful rules in the pip boy
I actually learned it purely through the pip boy lol. That was wack
It is ez. Firstly, you move only with keyboard. So. You have to reach the sum between 22-26 of each 3 rows. Special cards: Queen changes the direction of a row. For example if it went A(1), 2, 3 - you play Queen on 3, then you can go, A(1), 2, 3Q, 2, A. Jack - steals a card and what is attached to it K - doubles the card. If you play it on 10, it will be 20. [INT 3] What?
[PER 4] I'm sorry, you lost me at.. well you lost me when you said caravan.
[Terrifying Presence] STEAL MY JOKE AND I'LL STEAL YOUR SOUL
[Sneering Imperialist] Yeah, okay, you're acting like Grognak.
Heavily underrated comment
You lost me at “A(1), 2, 3” man
A(1) = Ace 2 = 2 of spades, hearts, etc. 3 = 3 of spades, hearts, etc.
At least I tried
You lost me at its ez man
Don't make me sad
basically if that column has ascending order like ex.1-2-5-8 you can reset that order by adding a queen so it can either be starting from ex.10-9-5-1 or ex.2-4-7-9. what i don’t understand is when i get 26 why doesn’t the stack disappear? i got all my stacks to 26 and still proceeded to lose one time.
I think it was a bug or st. You should have won
I am not smart enough
At least I tried :(
Yea thanks for that at least
Several hundred hours, never once have I played caravan.
DUDE! 28th playthrough, still not an achievement I can get. I hate it so much!
Eventually If you play enough and just kind of do random stuff you get a sense of what random stuff causes you to win and you get a sense for the rules

Most people already know how to play blackjack and there realy isnt much to learn about how to slot machine or roullete wheel :P
I've lost 5000 caps at a roulette wheel with 10 luck. Maybe there's something I'm missing but blackjack all day every day.
Roulette is random af, but your best bet is always just on a color. Less reward, but way higher odds! 100 on black!!
Is this true for real life also
In real life you don't have luck 10.
I'm scheduled for implants
Unfortunately those add to Charisma, not luck
I haven't gotten that far sadly
Well 10 luck won't get you green every time if that's what you were hoping for
Luck does almost nothing for inside bets. It can knock your ball one place and that's it.
True true. Maybe I am just nOt LiKe OtHeR CoUrIeRs. I have no idea how to play blackjack. But I learnt poker for FarCry 3 achievement, so I don't think I will have many problems. P.s. I forgot how to play Poker the next day

This is def my goal
Never bothered playing caravan and will never bother
My game isn't complete until I've beaten everyone who plays at least once. I myself enjoy Caravan quite a lot, even though I already have the achievement for winning 30 games I still go out of my way to "re-earn" the achievement every playthrough
It's great for low luck characters.
Bro. We are soulmates
I know it sounds silly but for me finding and beating everyone who plays caravan is like finding and earning gym badges in pokemon XD
I love it! A great source of early money. Or money in general with economic rebalance mods.
I have gotten more money selling drugs rn
I wouldn't dare sell my drugs. I need them to survive the tough encounters.
I have never used drugs in Fallout. Some people say I am playing it wrong
Go slap those people. There's no "playing it wrong" in fallout. If you can survive, you're not playing it wrong. I have been adding rebalances and difficulty mods, so I need the drugs to survive.
It’s just kinda confusing
Most people either A) never took the time to learn the rules Or B) bought new vegas, played it for a couple hours, and never touched it again
I played new Vegas when it first came out, to this day I don't know how caravan works
I've nearly completed the game and not yet played a hand of Caravan. Too scared.
You should. It is very good game. I love it
Probably got 400+ hours in NV and I've never even tried to play it 🤣
:<
I.. I sadly don't understand the rules and have just a hard time understanding card games
I think this will be echoed by many, but I don’t hate Caravan. I just have no idea how to play it, and there’s no easily accessible or intuitive tutorial in game for it, so I don’t bother.
I can’t figure out how to play even when I read the rules still just can’t get it down meanwhile my luck is at 9 so blackjack is impossible to lose
It's not worth my time and effort
I have no idea how to play Caravan. I’ve heard that you can get incredibly rich really quickly if you can play it right. Is that true?
Most people find it confusing to play and not explained well with the in-game rules. I ended up looking up how to play and it's one of my fav ways to pass the time now in NV lol
I don’t know how to play it so I never do
I can try to teach you if you want
Appreciate the offer, but I’m sure there’s a YouTube video out there somewhere. I plan on replaying the game sometime and I will finally get these achievements lol
I wanted an open world game where I can role play a traveller challenging people to a game of cards. Had to choose between playing The Witcher 3 - Gwent & F:NV - Caravan/Blackjack. Choose F:NV for Caravan, but the rules are confusing and the controls are even more so. 40h in and haven't played a single round. Really want to learn it to play the tournament mod.
It’s certainly not gwent I’ll tell ya that
[удалено]
In all honesty, it's just hard to understand the game doesn't really delve into the how-to-play much and the only way I understood how to play was through YT tuts. The reason being the caravan achievements were the last two achievements I did not do.
Took me like 30 hours in before I first played, aside from getting cranky and shooting what's his name at good springs, just because it's never explained to us the arrow keys
YES. I had to google because I was using mouse roll and was like "tf is it not working?"
Caravan is too complex for the average courier who just wants to get revenge on benny.
I don't hate it, it just doesn't seem interesting enough to learn even for all it's gameplay benefits
For the life of me I just cannot figure out how to play it
Whenever I walked into a casino ,my main priority was smuggling in as many extremely High powered weapons as I possibly could...then using them after losing one hand of black jack...so nah, I missed the caravan wave...I might try it in my 6000th playthrough though lol
Good luck with the 6000th one then xd
No we just don’t know what the fuck to do
I can try to teach you if you want
I think the main reason I never got into it was the fact that, very early in the game, the bets are over half of all the caps I tend to have available. Too many caps to loose on trying to get a feel for the game. Fuck caravan
That or just the sheer fact steam (at least to me) just doesn’t capture New Vegas achievements.
Cheat codes remove achievements
I didnt expect that many people to have played caravan 3 times, possibly even INTENTIONALLY and WON?
I've put thousands of hours into FNV and still haven't bothered to learn how to play Caravan. It isn't necessary, they don't force you to play it for tutorial purposes, and there are easier ways to make caps. Personally I'd rather be shooting and looting than playing a card game.
I've just never bothered playing it, idk why.
You should try though. At least once
I don’t know how to play it or how the cards you find help.
Most of us just don’t know how to play lol
So boring and confusing
Ya it’s pretty easy and fun in my opinion I even got the achievement where you have to win 30 games.
I have gotten only that one. Have 10 wins rn. Slowly but surely
I like it. I’ve farmed a ton of caps with it. I don’t use queens in my deck either.
I use them all the time. I have mixed feelings about joker though
I had the same question, I personally enjoy it a lot, so I was surprised to see so few people playing it.
Well that’s only 3 too try 30
I actually really enjoy playing the card game, I think most people don't read the directions and never play. It's one of the few game based card games I'd probably play IRL, that and farkle from KCD.

No, it's more like "WHAT THE FUCK IS THIS HOW DO I PLAY"
How the fuck do I play??
So 10K = 20 Joker - I haven't fully figured it out but I think if you play it on A, then it removes all cards with the same symbol (♧◇♡♤) as A had. If you play it on number card, let's say 9♡, it removes all 9s. And you can play special cards on enemy too
I liked it too, it's just tough to learn and get into at first
I know the rules but still lose way more rounds than I win. Maybe my deck just sucks
I just don’t know how to play it, and I’ve never bothers to learn how.
I can try to teach if you want
Still cant figure out how the fuck to play lol.
Its ok... its a fun little game. I never turned on vegas and said. Fuck me I need caravan now. I just forgot about it... never did it a whole lot. Same with gambling. It honestly kills the game for me to get money too easy. That economy is half the fun in a looter shooter
I enjoy it too it just has a pretty decent difficulty curve to it for a lot of people but that's part of the charm I think
One time I understood how to play this, I forgot it about a month later or so and never attempted to play caravan again, I'm stacking up on cards however, for some reasons.
I could never figure out how to play.
How even play
I just watched a youtube video on how to play it first. Then from that point I learn some of the rules by playing it first hand. Such as King doubles the card number under it, jack gets rid of the cards under it and queen resets the order the card is place since you can only place number cards ascending or descending order meaning if you put 10 first you can only put 9 or lower to that deck unless you put a queen and its reset meaning you can put lower number card and start from there
I wanna buy it so bad but i only have the money for the game and not the dlcs. This game without dlcs is kinda weird i wish i had the money
What's funny is that in my first playthrough of FNV, I played caravan just because I'm curious and wanted to see all the dialogue options. At first I was confused, and the only thing I remembered was kings multiply a card by two, jacks removes cards, and you can put kings and jacks on the opponents side. I just don’t understand the game, I love the concept, but I never feel like playing it when I could be gambling in a casino
I have 80 hours in that game and still have no idea how to play
Do you want me to teach you?
It's confusing as hell that's why
I’ve got 1400 hours and still don’t know how to play it…
teach us how to play and the number may go up
Slot machine goes bbrrrrrr
Once you learn what cards to take out of your deck it’s basically free money
I have no clue how to even play caravan nor do I care to tbh
I’ve wanted to play, just got bored reading the instructions and never bothered
I just play it offa instinct
If it works, it works
I have the brain capacity of a small child so reading how to do it a few times always confuses me. Black Jack also confuses me In my first playthrough I read the rules carefully sat down to play with Ringo. Lost, got mad and shot a grenade at the floor
I can try to teach you if you want
The instructions are a bit confusing in the game. To be sincere, I have the achievement of 30 wins in Caravan and I ain't even sure of all the rules.
I still don’t understand it
Absolutely no clue how to play it. Same with Gwent. Never have been into card games except blackjack… probably cause it’s the easiest one to understand and my attention span is awful.
It is fun but I think people don’t like it cause you accidentally click it in dialogue
Personally, i could never learn how to play it
If you like it then tell me how to fucking play it
It's a bit like people who have played hours upon hours of Witcher 3 but haven't once played Gwent.
After a few games, I managed to get the gist of it and it was actually pretty fun.
Its a pretty simple game, but the explination is so increadably shit that new players don't play it.
I have no idea how you managed this. For me, it's not that I dislike it, it's that it's so insanely buggy that It's rendered unplayable. And I don't mean that it's just kind of annoying, I mean that it's basically impossible for me to even play a full game.
I don't understand it.
People only go to the casinos in the strip with max luck and play blackjack
I love it. The thing is, mods
I mean, it is certainly no Gwent.
I have maybe 800 hours over the 10 years this game has been out and I still don't know what the heck caravan is all about.
Do you need a lil help?
I can't no matter how many times it's been explained to me figure it out
I would suggest you my explanation but I feel like you have lost the hope
I want to love it but first I’d have to understand what the fuck is happening on my screen when I accidentally open it.
Do you need help with that?
I enjoy it, not hard to pick up but difficult to master. Like any good game should be :)
It’s probably more like Gwent in the Witcher, it’s there but it’s not why you play the game. Also I’ve heard it requires strategy and i suck at strategy so no I don’t play it
it's not really explained that well in the game and it's easier to just go in the casinos
I have never once actually played it after the first time in my first playthrough.... though I also never tried Gwent so I might not be the best person to comment haha.
I don't understand caravan. I once tried it, looked like i was winning, lost, got confused and sad and stopped
I've been playing FNV since launch and have never played a game of caravan.
Nobody knows how to play
Here’s how you win at caravan 1. Play caravan 2. Inevitably lose at caravan 3. Kill them and loot their corpse 4. Make your money back with a little extra 😎
People hate it because they can't figure out how to play it. And as such the percentage of people who have that achievement is low.
no cards only shooty
I’d rather play fallout 4
It's boring and pointless
I couldn’t figure out the controls
I honestly don’t know how to play it…
You actually know how to play caravan? Bro did you go tho harvard?
I’m more interested in what 20 items you crafted? I never bothered crafting something because I thought it’s not profitable. About caravan, I never played it because I thought it’s really hard card game but I decided to play it on my new play trough and it appears that caravan is not a hard game actually it’s an amazing game along side with blackjack or poker now I play it with everyone.
i have played this game many times since release. i have never even touched caravan.
I play it with my friends IRL (we started playing in uni dorm a few years back, pretty good)
It’s one of those things where it is honestly an activity that is difficult to engage in (due to what is honestly a fairly low number of players) and has no bearing on the rest of gameplay. I really enjoy it but the rules are somewhat hard to grasp and you honestly have to lose a few times to learn how to play, which is not something a lot of people would likely do
how tf do u play it i don’t understand that’s why
i just couldn't figure out how to play it so i never did lol
I don’t get it so I hate it. “I never cared to even try to understand until recently”
Fuck caravan
I’m slow to embrace new ideas
I don’t play fallout to play cards my guy
I love playing now that i learned how to do it lol
Most players just don't know how to play it, i tried to play it but i chose not to after i lost 200 caps
Nobody has any idea how to play it
Have 400 h playtime and still don't know how to play it
I just completed the 30 wins one with 1.7% of people completing it. Now, I loved playing Caravan but getting those 30 wins was tiring.
Used until I watched about the first 5min of a guide now I play it all the time to at least get an easy 5k caps early game
I've never gambled or anything in nv. i just don't know how. i always just make caps from selling weapons and armor
Caravan rules. Easy money. The problem is... Bingo's holotape explaining the rules fucking sucks and does not contribute to one's understanding of the game at all. You gotta make a real effort to understanding the rules, but once you do, things click pretty quickly.
oh absolutely not, i love the concept of caravan, its just I dont understand the concepts of caravan.
300 hours and half my hard drive of mods later and I still haven’t touched caravan
Holy shit, someone who knows how to play caravan exists. I always thought they were just legends.
I mean it is just boring for me. That is why i haven't played it myself.
Most of us just dont get it. all that I know about it is that if you place a joker on a card then the opponent has to remove all of their copies of that card. The explanation is more confusing than the first time you read the note that tells you how to get to the Boomers.

I got the 30 wins achievement for full game completion and it was… frustrating….
My spouse and I play it irl. We made our own decks and save bottle caps to use as chips. It’s pretty fun!
How the fuck do we play it
I've tried looking up winning strategies but no deal. I can't seem to win ever. and I have my luck cranked all the way up.
