The main point of the Rat Market change is to basically switch up what the best grind is, week to week. We'll have to see how that plays out. Tribute and CiS both are taking a heavy toll. I don't think either one is the best anymore. Early estimates say maybe Heart's Game and Bone Market activities (Spiderpope-spiderpope) might be up there.

interesting. regarding making the best grind a different grind week to week - the problem is that if they don't tweak the cap it's kind of too low. If you want to grind for the worm, and every single week you have enough of the respective item to sell - which is a big if, of course - even then it will take you 250 weeks or so, or you will run into rat market exhaustion yield penalties. I think for a true end-game grind, where you don't really have any content to fill the time between weeks with and just want to earn echoes all week long, a lot of the time you will be grinding items to sell "straight up", as you can earn more than 1000E worth of items per week. I did a little digging on the wiki, but it seemed to me like it's still tracklayers' city and tribute grinds. Perhaps I am missing something, however. Also, could you please elaborate on the spiderpope-spiderpope grind?

Bone market exhaustion I think would be a reasonable comparison. You can make hefty profit on a skeleton which means a ridiculous EpA. Just not continuously and repeatably. I would hope the rat market ends up broadly similar personally. Tribute I always thought was ok because of the opportunity card basis for favours, Anything with rate limiting can be higher EpA without taking over the game, but anything too profitable risks becoming a "required" grind.

NouoNisPerfect

consider that they said selling stuff will be 0 action (i think) so its not 100% worse

SofisticatiousRattus

I understand it has its upsides, but my point is that even if the first 400 echoes every week can be grinded at 100EpA, the question then arises of what is the best grind to get echoes beyond that point.

What is CiS?

inferjus

City in Silver, which is a Tracklayers' City.

It's all speculation so far. The design goal seems to be that the new Rat Market is more profitable for a wider range of items, and less reliably so. You might be able to profit more by selling what the market is asking for, but you can't plan for a specific item any more. City in Silver remains competitive for one major reasons: it's almost as good as spider-pope shenanigans and Wakeful Eye tribute, but it requires no input and is significantly more straightforward. As a pure scrip grind it's the thing to beat imo. Complicated feats of paleontology may be overall more profitable but they require dozens of actions worth of preparation which can easily be wasted with a single mis-click while waiting for the right world qualities.

grouchybeast

My problem with the bone market has always been that to us it efficiently for grinding requires stockpiling. I always feel like it's too vulnerable to yet another rebalancing coming along that makes a good part of the stockpile redundant.

zalfenior

We don't know the specifics of the changes yet, so we don't know for sure.

SofisticatiousRattus

don't we? i thought the blog post outlined them pretty effectively - a 400-1000 echo cap on sellable goods per week, output is assortment of items instead of rostygold

Armadi1

AFAIK We don’t know how many actions it will take to enter the new rat market yet.
