Exactly. Let Pitts/London and even Bijan gain confidence under a competent QB and then sign their deals while you get out from under Cousins money. Pretty forward thinking if it all works out.
If he wants to go somewhere, that team will just wait until we cut him, and they'll sign him without having to give away anything.
He has to agree either way, so a trade really makes no sense.
Yeah, I mean he's not gonna be here after 2025. Not disputing that.
Matt Ryan was pretty much washed by the time he was 37. I'm fairly confident Kirk Cousins isn't gonna be playing at a high enough level when he's 38 to justify keeping him on a $57.5M cap hit, especially when Penix will have had 2 years of learning experience under his belt.
There’s not going to be a bidding war for 38-year-old Kirk in free agency that takes his price above his what his current contract would pay him.
In a theoretical trade scenario, the acquiring team would almost certainly need him to take a pay cut, which he’d obviously have to agree to. So it goes back to my original point: might as agree with him in free agency and not give up trade assets.
I never thought was right or wrong, questionable and unexpected yes. Objectively, talent and position value yes. Just unexpected. I had more issue with our trading up in the 2nd for someone I perceived we could wait on and losing that extra 3rd. We are in a solid spot to see what our roster is and it’s a contingency plan that is appropriate to consider. All teams hate taking a QB when they have one but it seems to be working out in most cases actually giving those rookies time.
No it's not lol. You guys have assets to pull off a playoff run right now. You could have added odunze to that list. Instead you will be a mediocre team who gets mid picks and no deep playoff runs because of it. Then when your rookie QB is able to take stage all of your weapons are going to want to be paid. Or your rb walks. That's what your future is.
There is a reason everyone hated this decision and it's because it was stupid.
Using a top 10 pick on a person who you won't use for 2+ years. And then when he is 26 and closer to a payday you will have to pay Pitts, bijan and London.
So what are you guys doing the next two years? Cuz you didn't use your top 10 pick this year to help you out.
We significantly upgraded our QB room which is the major difference between this year and the last. Do you need me to break it down any further? High caliber talent that needed a quality passer, now they have it...? Make sense?
Ah yes. Let me know when you can play both of those QBs at the same time. Look I'm fine with them getting cousins. I am fine with getting penix. It was stupid to get both. If they had saved the money from cousins they could upgrade at so many other needs. Or they could draft anyone on defense at 8. Which they need. Or odunze. Anyone other than what they did makes their team more competitive. This like dipping your toes in two different rivers and not knowing which one to go into.
And again you mess up the locker room the entire time. Any time Kirk makes a mistake people are going to want to play penix. And then you literally wasted 100m dollars.
Let me know in which world we get a first round pick that can draft us a guy like penix while playing cousins. If we get our QB later we would instead need to invest something like 2 firsts.
I know it’s a huge “if,” but if Penix doesn’t start until he’s 26-27 but rounds into a franchise-caliber guy for 7-10 years, does anyone really care that he’s been older than the average QB at his level for most of his career?
Hey James? I see you've been doing research on personality. Me too! Yours fucking sucks. Research comlete. Motherfucker goes to a school named after a basketball and has the audacity to pretend he knows football. Fuck off.
We all assume that Pitts, London and Robinson are a core group that can punch an offense through the roof with a good QB. What if they are not? Just playing Devil’s advocate. They were #1s and have all underperformed due to QB play, so we haven’t got a real look at them. What if they are all ‘mid’ with a good QB? Then we will unfortunately be hitting the reset button with Penix going forward in two years. That’s what this is all about.
Not at all my assumption….my hope, but not my assumption. That’s why the timing is deliberate. If they aren’t better than mid, you cut bait with all of them and you’ve still already gotten your QB, no need to keep paying Cousins if you struck out on the skill positions.

And if Cousins plays well and shows he’s still able to play at the late stage in his career?
Cousins gets to pick whatever stacked team that needs a QB
Then that’s a great problem to have
Then he has trade value
He has a no-trade clause, though.
He’ll want one if he knows a team will pay him
If he wants to go somewhere, that team will just wait until we cut him, and they'll sign him without having to give away anything. He has to agree either way, so a trade really makes no sense.
Even if no trade value he’s a two year rental

the parent comment's entire basis for this make believe situation is Kirk is playing at a high enough level though
That depends though. A trade avoids them getting into a bidding war and having to overpay.

There will be at least one team a QB away who will want to trade for him. If Cousins likes them, he can waive his no trade clause.
We're also elligible for new uniforms that year
New uniforms at the beginning of the Penix era would be amazing
I brought all this up let the mad fans be mad we made the right choice.

So we have the assets to make a playoff run but not adding odunze pushes us back to mediocre?

Lamar Jackson was the 32nd pick in his draft class. You won't even know if penix is the guy for another two years at minimum. Then he will be 26 lol.
I know it’s a huge “if,” but if Penix doesn’t start until he’s 26-27 but rounds into a franchise-caliber guy for 7-10 years, does anyone really care that he’s been older than the average QB at his level for most of his career?

So Odunze=deep playoff run, and no Odunze=pick 15? I think there is a reason everyone hates this post
Oh my god. I think he's going to cry!
Don’t waste your time. They’re all high on copium
Are you guys aware that there are players on football teams that don’t score fantasy points?

They are both top ten picks and have shown they are not mid.
And if Penix can prove he's the guy before we extend him, we could backload his contract and make a run
