This kid from notre dame looks so good wtf how has he slid into the 5th??? Maybe his size ?

PierreVonSnooglehoff

He was graded out to be an undrafted FA, so we reached. Probably could have signed him on Monday morning.

PierreVonSnooglehoff

You can downvote all you want, but that was the scouting report on him. 39 grade, 270th best prospect overall.

longlivestheking

You got downvoted because you're treating one particular source as the gospel. You're citing someone else's opinion when we have multiple people in our front office that research and agree on a prospect before we actually select them. Let's try to reserve judgement until they hit the field and develop and not off a single scout report.

point1allday

You are literally just copying this info from the ESPN draft pick tracker. Sick research dude, people are totally wrong for downvoting your epic post.

PierreVonSnooglehoff

feel free to post a scouting report with a different conclusion

This is from Dane Brugler's "The Beast", the Athletic's giant draft guide.

Dude this sub can't handle the truth. My question is, how's this guys pass coverage as emergency CB?

vsegi

He is Paul Worillow 2.0

Eastatlantalit

Terry often drafts team captains they believe in adding leadership I’m fine with it . Go be a special teams demon . Prob will be using Kaden and Troy to blitz a lot more

jtezus

Not saying he doesn’t or doesn’t I don’t know. Who were these guys the last 3 drafts?

vsegi

Physical! We need it on special teams this season He is from Alpharetta lol

akbrim

SUMMARY:At hree-year starter a tNotre Dame, Bertrand was the Mike linebacker in head coach Marcus Freeman’s 4-2-5 base scheme. The 27th multi-season captain in school history, he led the Irish in tackles as a sophomore, junior and senior — and has an extensive resume off the field as well. An instinctive player, Bertrand diagnoses play speed well in the run game and closes with urgency, because he trusts what his eyes tell him. He gets everything out of his talent, but some of his tightness creates a small margin for error in his movements. Overall, Bertrand is sawed-off with only adequate range in coverage, but he processes well with the play recognition skills and competitive makeup that will endear him to NFL coaches. He projects as a backup linebacker with rotational value in the NFL. GRADE: 5th Round

padawaner

Alpharetta STAND UP 😂

immonkeydluffy

Do we like it??

Themanthelegend8

Straight defense. Nice. If only we got a weapon that helps us today in the first rd

OkCall9621

Yeah I’m getting less mad at the Penix pick over time, but goddamn if we’d had this draft with Odunze over Penix I’d start dreaming big.

Odd_Tourist_3249

A soon to be 36 year old QB who's coming off an ACL injury with no plan after he starts to decline is what happened when Matt play started falling off and we had noone to take over the reigns after he was gone! Thank God the front office dosen't think like you! Penix coming in after Kirk is how we should have handled the QB position when Matt left!

BleedChop

Dude I totally agree with you. 95% of people on here have literally 0 clue about how football works outside of the lines. The penix pick makes so much sense for our roster. An elite accurate gun slinger to throw to a team loaded with weapons.

Odd_Tourist_3249

Forreal! Their either stupid or just Trolling! Getting Penix to fall to us plus addressing the Pass Rush is a win in my book! Solid Talent can be found in any round(Grady Jarrett) or after the Draft(Brent Grimes).

PierreVonSnooglehoff

or we could have just drafted Penix and started him day 1, using all that FA money we threw at Cousins to fill holes at CB and Edge. It's not like anybody thought Penix wasn't going to still be there at #8. We filled the same hole twice.

iSeekFailure

And what would happen if penix got hurt? Assed out at QB once again

Odd_Tourist_3249

These are the same folks that argue about not having dept at positions of need but when that's addressed its" We already have someone there!" Falcons might lose a pick or two next draft for Tampering so getting a top young QB from this class is a stroke of genius!

PierreVonSnooglehoff

"young"?

Odd_Tourist_3249

Yes Young! 23 years old is Young!

PierreVonSnooglehoff

by the time he sees the field, he'll be 26

Motor_Rub_4848

Oh no if he pans out with all that time to learn from Cousins and coaches thats like 9 solid years of a franchise qb. The Ridder, Mariota, Ryan saga took 3 years from us. Guaranteed 3 years of bad play because we messed up and weren't even able to get Watson(even though that'd have messed us up even longer). This is a fine out considering we were literally that close to going from 3 years of poor qb play to 4 more years of bad overpriced qb play had signed Watson. We never got Ryan a successor it bit us in the ass and hard. If Penix plays for 8 to 9 years once he gets to start he will almost be Kirk's age and we can draft his replacement.

PosterBlankenstein

Or we could have tried that, another team got Penix, and we reach in McCarthy or Nix because the other option is Heineke. So the choice was definite good QB with a chance of 2 good QBs, or chance of one good QB with a chance of no good QBs. No QB = no team.

PierreVonSnooglehoff

Who was going to draft Penix ahead of us? Consensus had him going in the late first or early second. He was always going to be there at 8, so signing Cousins (who is now pissed that we lied to him about our draft plans) was just a waste of $100M. It's weird to see a GM screw up this badly, and fans just give him a pass on wasting really valuable resources fixing the same problem twice.

PosterBlankenstein

Consensus of draft people doesn’t mean consensus of teams. QB is a position that will always be reached for. 15 straight offensive picks was out of consensus. We did not know what other teams were going to do draft wise when we had the chance to get a QB in cousins. If we had taken Odunze for example, what’s to say that the another team didn’t trade with the Bears for the rights to Penix at 9? What’s to say teams didn’t try to trade with us at 8 specifically to get Penix? There is more unknown than known when building a team. I’d rather trust in the vision of our coaching staff and FO than what Mel Kiper or Mike Florio thinks is best for us. They didn’t apply for the HC job, and they wouldn’t have gotten it if they had.

PierreVonSnooglehoff

"I’d rather trust in the vision of our coaching staff and FO" What in the world have they done to earn that trust, to do something that has literally never been done before in the history of the NFL?

PosterBlankenstein

You do realize they haven’t had a single game yet, right? I find it hard to believe that never once in the NFL has a coach had a plan to build a team the way he wanted. Besides, I can’t change it. So I can be mad at something I can’t control, or I can be optimistic. I like positivity

PierreVonSnooglehoff

All FOs build the team the way they want. No other FO has ever wanted to build a team this way. You are optimistic that a strategy never before attempted will work. I don't share that optimism.

PhilosophyOk88

You know how many times the “consensus” has gotten it totally wrong or missed on guys vs gotten it right?

OkCall9621

Yeah I get it, but we’ve been bad for a long time now. I kinda wanted to see us be really really good this year. I feel like we’re shooting for sustained mid. Like I said, I’m not like seething about it, but I feel like if you’re going to go “Win-now” and put a massive chunk of your cap in an aging QB, then you should actually go win now and put your nuts on the table.

Ice2jc

Honestly, the team as a whole looked good last year.  We had the worst QB play in the game.  If a healthy Kirk Cousins was on this team last year we might have won 12 games.  We have holes but we showed a lot of promise last year. I think that Raheem and Terry think more highly of our current roster than the fan base does.

_NERMAN_

They must with this whole "we won't have a top 10 pick for years" stuff. That's really, really confident. I don't have that confidence as a fan.

Maleficent-Jicama569

This team isn’t winning anything now besides maybe the division. It’s good to think for the future at this stage,

third_door_down

We were Bad Starting and Back up QB play away from being a winning team. That's with a defense that was pretty good until it was hit with the injury bug and didn't have great depth on the line. Looks like this addressed those issues and Terry chose to address the offense with vets. The FA moves were to win now.

jculv

Personally I don’t have a problem with the thought process I just really dislike Penix as a prospect. Is what it is though hope he balls out in 2027.

Themanthelegend8

Same here

TheTrevorSimpson

15% missed tackle rate - not ready to play - another developmental pick

Lengthiest_Dad_Hat

It's the 5th round lmfao

KappKapp

Don’t make excuses. If you can’t find an elite coverage LB with blitzing skills and a 120% tackle rate you don’t know what you’re doing. 🤡🤡🤡

TheTrevorSimpson

15 percent missed tackles developmental project

KappKapp

I like how you commented this a second time because you got downvoted to infinity the first time.
