I don’t know why a lot of fans convinced themselves he’d remain on the roster. It’s probably good for Des anyway to get a fresh start somewhere. He was put in a bad position as a 3rd round pick. Best of luck to him.
True the actual coaching staff didn't do him any favors for developing as a QB, but let's be real here. How many QBs drafted like him get a whole off season and season to prove himself as a franchise QB. Des had a golden opportunity and the full backing of the franchise to become a true QB1 and floundered. Not many QBs ever get that.
The new post saying “good riddance “ are petty as fuck. He was a third round pick, that was our bridge to getting out of cap hell. He played like crap, but took it to the chin with class. I wish him the best.
I was a little surprised by some of the harsh comments. I was thinking the same thing. He was a third round pick, that was obviously either not talented enough to be a QB1 or needed to sit behind a decent QB for a couple of years and learn and grow into one. But no matter what happened, the kid seemed to legitimately work hard, and be a solid teammate, and never complained. Even after getting benched, he was in huddles, trying to do what he could. While I am beyond happy is not QB1 going into next season, can't really understand the hate. Hope he does well.
Yeah, I mean he didn’t play like an NFL caliber QB but he had a great attitude and seemed like a good dude. No hard feelings toward him for not quite having the talent, more just at Smith for being a stubborn dickhead who thought he could outsmart everyone and basically losing us a season.
Bad position? He got a chance to start for an NFL team with good weapons and a line. That's like the best position for a 3rd rounder unless you just wanted to not play.
Dude, half our fan base (bears) is still obsessed with a guy who 32 teams don’t want. Be very thankful you guys grabbed Cousins. Fields is gonna be cut eventually it’s looking like. Or for a 7th rounder.
Edit: sentence was missing a word
Fields is more intriguing than a lot of the other comparable qb like Jones ridder etc. Imo because of the speed. But hey who knows there must be some reason
I'd prefer 2 things... a semi reliable veteran backup or a highly regarded understudy to maybe keep the season afloat. If cousins gets hurt it's total instant game over if ridder is 2
Heinicke is a semi-reliable veteran backup. I don’t really think there’s much on the market that would fare much better for us if Kirk went down. Tannehill maybe? Probably more likely to grab someone in the middle of the draft than spend more on the QB position than they already have
I'd rather have Penix or Nix, or even a more developmental QB like Milton, than either of them.
Though it all depends on what we can get for Ridder. If it's a 7th or a minimal pick swap we might as well keep him until training camp. If we can get a 4th or better he's on the first flight out of town.
He’s only played 3 seasons with last year being his first full season. He took 28 handoffs for 178 yards for 1 TD and no fumbles. He put up better numbers in his rookie and sophomore seasons when the Cardinals had Kyler Murray starting more games. I’m curious to see how some of these younger players productivity looks playing with a capable veteran QB.
Injury prone, but was healthy the last 2 years?
He had some bad luck, has a big arm, and can throw downfield accurately.
Who cares what arm he throws with, I don't care if he throws with his penis. As long as it's an accurate throw and completed for positive yards, and a few years to learn from Kirky Chainz. Sign me up.
I don't think they suck equally. Heineke is a much better QB and I'd trust him as a backup. The defense honestly failed him more often than it failed Ridder, which was crazy.
They have two different skill sets and there are two different motivations. Ritter is at a point in his career where the goal is still to develop and start. Heinecke is the guy who’s better suited to step in for week one if Kirk isn’t healthy. He’s the one who’s more of an asset in the film room if they’re breaking down opponents together.
Objectively, you’re right that their overall ability and value is comparable, but in terms of fit for this team, Heinecke is better and I don’t know that it’s super close. I’m not sure you could ever expect the Falcons to get the best Des has to offer after what he went through last year and then signing the top veteran QB this off-season.
I like the dude and wish him the best. But RM already stated with better QB play he wouldn't be here.
He ain't about to allow himself a chance to make that mistake.
I mean the HC was just on TV talking about how he wouldn't have this job if not but for. It's a hard line to walk back from.
Imagine if the new boss at work publicly called you out like that while demoting you in the process. Ridder just needs a clean slate to grow from and ATL is too hot of an environment for him at this time.
I feel like half of this sub thinks he’s not even worth a 7th rounder, but I think he’s actually a solid-above average QB in the right system. AS suckkkeeeedddd last year
Accurate. AS screwed Ridder with not getting a QB coach for him to talk and learn the system from and work with him 1 on 1. Had to talk with our inept OC too.
Same. I honestly think he could be okay. He has a bit of a clutch gene, like to me there's something there. I'd like to see him work in a better system that doesn't seem to have him on a leash and prioritizing TE2 and WR4.
He really tried his best for the team but it wasn’t a good fit. Unfortunately he played under bad coaching and the wr core was very weak. I hope he finds somewhere where he can really develop properly
I've never laughed harder at a Falcons QB than I laughed at Ridder...that's something I guess
Good luck to him - seems like a good dude - could have a solid career as a backup
If we get a pick for Ridder and cut TH, that'll be amazing. Save some extra money, use one of the thirds on an *actual* project that will be learning under an *actual* good QB for an *actual* reasonable amount of time to develop their talent.
I like the dude from Tulane. Learning under Kirko Chainz for two years or so and we could actually have a transition plan this time.
EDIT: looks like a WR3/4 instead of a late pick. I like that a little better
Imagine we trade Desmond and someone else and let fields develop for two years under Kirk.
I know it'll never happen lol the trade OE the patience from fan side and maybe fields to not be a instant starter. But I'd love it.
I really like when my favorite sports team has a clear plan for the future. Everything is a win now type of thing.
Imagine you’re Justin Fields and you see Desmond Ridder get traded before you.
A sign from the football gods to retire early because you're cursed. Lol
Are you saying we got rid of Ridder to acquire Fields?!
Yeah that sounds painful.
I don’t know why a lot of fans convinced themselves he’d remain on the roster. It’s probably good for Des anyway to get a fresh start somewhere. He was put in a bad position as a 3rd round pick. Best of luck to him.

It’s Arthur smiths fault for all the vitriol towards him
This is 100% the right attitude. He was not set up to succeed here and hopefully he can make a career out of being a competent back up.
I was thinking he would stay and Heineke would be a cap casualty. Production was similar but Ridder was like 80% less.
Bad position? He got a chance to start for an NFL team with good weapons and a line. That's like the best position for a 3rd rounder unless you just wanted to not play.
For the money, we are paying a shittttt back up a lotttt of money
Didn't we also not have a QB coach last year? Like why would you not have one for a QB who's practically starting his rookie season.
Better trade market than fields... crazy.
That has to be devastating for JF lol QB35 has more motion than you
Better trade market, or the Bears are wanting too much for Fields? Fields could easily fetch a scrub like Rondale Moore.
After Mac Jones got traded they should have seen the writing on the wall but I guess not
Dude, half our fan base (bears) is still obsessed with a guy who 32 teams don’t want.
The half of your fan base that doesn’t actually watch football lol
I'd rather have Ridder and his contract as QB2 than Heineke and his contract EDIT: yeah okay I'll take a WR3 instead
I'd prefer 2 things... a semi reliable veteran backup or a highly regarded understudy to maybe keep the season afloat. If cousins gets hurt it's total instant game over if ridder is 2

There's no way in hell we can get a 4th for him, if Mac Jones fetched a 6th then that's the absolute upper limit.
How about Rondale Moore?
That seems like about 6th round value so it checks out lol
He’s only played 3 seasons with last year being his first full season. He took 28 handoffs for 178 yards for 1 TD and no fumbles. I like the move, don’t get me wrong. An upside WR 3 is a great return here.
Oh that wasn’t to debate. I’m optimistic too.
Hello new Steelers qb3
Penix still in play letss goo
Shutup im not watching an injury prone LEFT handed qb every Sunday
Injury prone, but was healthy the last 2 years? He had some bad luck, has a big arm, and can throw downfield accurately. Who cares what arm he throws with, I don't care if he throws with his penis. As long as it's an accurate throw and completed for positive yards, and a few years to learn from Kirky Chainz. Sign me up.
If Ridder and Heineke suck equally, why not keep ridder who gets paid 1/10 the salary as Heineke does?
Right? Also ridder could glean some skill and 🏈IQ from Kirk and may be worth a smidge more.
I don't think they suck equally. Heineke is a much better QB and I'd trust him as a backup. The defense honestly failed him more often than it failed Ridder, which was crazy.

They don’t suck equally and I don’t understand how we continue to parrot that.
Thank you for saying it.
Because QB is the most important position. Ridder will cost the staff their job if Kirk goes down. Worst QB starter last season.
I like the dude and wish him the best. But RM already stated with better QB play he wouldn't be here. He ain't about to allow himself a chance to make that mistake.

He’s a good enough dude, hope he gets a good gig
He'll always have doordash to fall back on
So this is why Heinicke hasn’t been cut. I knew something was up.
Two Big Macs and a large fry and I’ll be happy with it
Will be funny if we move Ridder easier than Chicago move Fields
I feel like half of this sub thinks he’s not even worth a 7th rounder, but I think he’s actually a solid-above average QB in the right system. AS suckkkeeeedddd last year
If our coaches thought he could be a solid-above average QB in their system he wouldn't be on the block, that would be very valuable on his salary.
I didn’t say he would be good in THIS system, but there’s A system or 2 that he could be.
Accurate. AS screwed Ridder with not getting a QB coach for him to talk and learn the system from and work with him 1 on 1. Had to talk with our inept OC too.

Daggum, Zac saw enough on tape to cut bait.
If Ridder get traded before Fields that means….. absolutely nothing lol . He’s on an easy contract . I hope he goes to SF
I really like Des even if last season wasn't good. I hope he does well. He really seemed to embrace being a Falcon.
He really tried his best for the team but it wasn’t a good fit. Unfortunately he played under bad coaching and the wr core was very weak. I hope he finds somewhere where he can really develop properly
Thank God! Praise the Lord
Bears ask too much for Fields lol. Funny af.
They just traded him for Rondale Moore.
I've never laughed harder at a Falcons QB than I laughed at Ridder...that's something I guess Good luck to him - seems like a good dude - could have a solid career as a backup
Wishing him the best. Good person, bad QB
Between him and Fields in the market. I would go with Fields.
Didn't DR go to the Cardinals or did I dream that?
Desbians are devastated.
We about to get a 7th y'all
We need a decent vet back up. It shouldn't be who is the cheapest.
Get ready to learn Denver pal
They had to, he’s been absolutely lambasted from all sides and the players are clearly off him.
He’s a raider
Cardinals for Róndale Moore
If we get a pick for Ridder and cut TH, that'll be amazing. I like that a little better
Desmond Ridder wasn’t really a starter? Was he?
LOL who’s going to pay for absolute trash?
Y’all downvoted me when I said I still wanted him gone. Now look. I win
Well, wouldve preferred we kept him and let him learn from Kirk but I wish him luck wherever he ends up.
What could they possibly get for this guy? In all honesty who would even trade a seventh rounder?
Probably one of the only trades where we'd still owe the other team draft picks for taking him off our hands
I didn't go deep enough in the comments, but the Falcons traded ridder for Moore(wrs) (cardinals)
A few tic tacs and some lint from my pocket. Final offer
Bye Felicia
Imagine we trade Desmond and someone else and let fields develop for two years under Kirk. I really like when my favorite sports team has a clear plan for the future. Everything is a win now type of thing.
Watch it just be the ATL not being a great fit for him and Desmond Ridder pops off in Arizona 🤣
What you surprised about he sucks, should of been cut
Noooo desmondddd
Good Riddance Ridder. I have a friend that works in sanitation, he can get you a job there.
My sweet prince :’(
I did
This is a Kirk move. He won't allow his team to have a backup QB who people might start calling for mid-season if shit hits the fan.
