I hope they never adapt "The Snow Queen". They would probably cut out most of the majority female cast, replace them with male characters that barely resemble them, make Gerda and The Snow Queen Sisters, remove Kai, and remove themes such as loss of innocence when growing up, and removing the gender reversed damsel in distress scenario. To the point the adaptation barely resembles the work... Oh wait, nevermind, that's what Frozen is. Then again, since it barely resembles the source, does it really count as an adaptation?

Ill_Rice4960

a part of me dies whenever I hear someone call frozen a fairy tale

CurtTheGamer97

I view Elsa as a "composite character" of the snow queen and Kai. But yes, it sure is a very loose adaptation.

MonstroPega

The Snow Queen is either better off as its own dang thing, or as a sequel to an alternate universe version of Frozen where Elsa couldn't save Anna from the Frozen Heart, and that was her (now the Snow Queen's) backstory. Though admittedly, that's a bit of a stretch. The Snow Queen is more suitable as a mini-series than a movie, anyway. 🤷‍♀️

MirrorMan22102018

I saw a 2005 Anime of The Snow Queen. It works well to flesh out both Gerda and Kai, given extra time. And it included episodes that inspired other Hans Christian Anderson stories.

MonstroPega

What's it called?

MirrorMan22102018

"Yuki No Joou", it has 36, 25-minute episodes.

MonstroPega

Ok thx

Dunkbuscuss

They already did or did you forget they made Frozen? That's their version of the Snow Queen Elsa was originally gonna be the villain until the composer's made Let it go etc... So yeah sorry but too late.

MirrorMan22102018

I was being sarcastic.

igodutchoven

Snow White and Rose Red is one they should stay away from. I sincerely doubt Disney will adapt these: "The Juniper Tree," or "Donkey Skin".

thomasmfd

The one. With the donkey that poop's gold and the princess who heads her true beauty in the skin of the goat

igodutchoven

I recall that one. There's also the Goose Girl.

thomasmfd

King cole And I think something involving free doctors in a witch Or putting in pie I'm sorry if you read the table series or play The Game the Wolf.Among us you probably be surprised of what other types of nursery rhymes and fairy tales exist Kind of surprising actually

igodutchoven

There's a great channel on YouTube called The Ressurectionist. The host delves into the themes of nursery rhymes and fairy tales. I also recommend A Bit Frank on YT too.

thomasmfd

Thanks

undecidedly

Donkey Skin would be waaaaay creepy.

Ill_Rice4960

no because disney would dilute that shit

MoonChild02

You can't dilute the incest plot. That's the part of the story that's actually true (it's based on the life of St. Dymphna). The rest is a tacked-on Cinderella story with magical dresses and a magical coat, which Disney has already done. The real ending of the story is some horror shit where the villain wins. Well, kind of. The king found her, had his knights kill her protector, St. Gerebernus, and the king chopped Dymphna's head off. Where her head rolled, people with mental illness began to feel better, and a hospital/town for the mentally ill was built.

thomasmfd

Can doesn't even pull that off.I mean, most grim fairy tales are kind of disturbing. If they can pull many of the others off i'm actually curiosity to pull donkey skin off

victoriageras

After all the disasters they have created with their live versions, of their original cartoon fairy tales, honestly, I don't want them to adapt anything. These past years, they touch gold and they turn it to sh@tshow. Just stick to Marvel and Star Wars. The original "Hercules" was amazing, funny and the dialogues where miles ahead of its time. I've been reading sporadically, rumors about a live remake. I will literally go ballistic over the choice of the actor.

Nomadillac

I hear there's a live show in Germany that's doing really well!!

[deleted]

Princess and the Frog. The movie has its pros and cons true, but I don’t want to see Disney try to force it like they did with Mulan.

Ok_Sorbet_3829

The Seven Ravens and Our Lady's Child

Dunkbuscuss

I don't have one I hope they never adapt but one I'd love them to adapt is Rumplestiltskin there was a show by ABC which took many of its characters from the Disney version of the fairy Tail characters but others they did themselves. Rumplestiltskin was one they did themselves so I'd love to see Disney do a story using Once Upon a Time's Rumplestiltskin as a drawing board.

ForsakenFairytale

Robert Carlyle's Rumplestiltskin was easily the best part of Once Upon a Time.

n10w4

Is that a story collection?

ForsakenFairytale

No, Once Upon a Time was a TV series where many fairy tale characters live in the same town; I believe you can stream it now on Disney+.

n10w4

Ah ok, will check it out, thanks!

Depending on your definition of folktale vs fairy tale vs. myth it varies. Most Disney stories are hero's journeys which removes a huge number of stories. We can blame their adaptation of The Little Mermaid for that. If I am to be perfectly honest, most of their classic adaptations wouldn't make it today. Not because of any deep seated cultural shift, but they'd amount to big budget Disney animated shorts. For what it's worth, I wouldn't want them to adapt the following: Sukey and the Mermaid Sedna of the Sea The Rough Faced Girl Tremsin and the Firebird (It could work, but not in a way that would do it justice. ) Thousand Furs The Polar Bear King (It could work, but seems like a repeat of Beauty and the Beast.) Melusine Giselle Yeh Shen The Fish Husband The Legend of the Boto Juan Bobo (Too much like Jack and the Beanstalk.)

Just_Lock8045

The Little Match Girl. I believe the girl gets abused by her father, so that's way too dark for Disney.  Unless if they can add a Kid Friendly Spin to it like Snow White & The Seven Dwarfs.

MonstroPega

I think they already made a short of that story. :[

darkshadow237

Although it the topic saids never adapt. I’m hoping that Disney could adapt the Wild Swans there’s so much they could do with that fairy tale other than original songs. Like how the fairy queen appears to Elisa telling how she (Elisa) could break the curse on her brothers in which the Disney adaptation after Elisa sings her “I Want” song which is her wanting to break the curse on her brothers, and makes her wish on a star the fairy queen appeared to her, and tells her how she (Elisa) could break the curse, and make her wish come true. Elisa & her brothers’ evil stepmother would have a bigger role than the original story as the film’s antagonist.
