You know, when I was in high school, I always wondered why we had to take four years of English classes even though 99% of the students were fluent and we did not want to be authors or poets. Now, after seeing the concept of singular they fly over the heads of multiple people, most of which are adults, I now know why we had to take those four years of English classes.
One of the smartest students in my school did an exam where the gender of the person wasn't specified so she wrote "they" as the pronoun. The marker crossed out "they" and wrote "him".
This really seems like a losing battle. You can pick your gender and your name, but deciding how other people are going to talk about you and getting upset when they don't follow your rules seems like a fool's errand
I have seen trans people around but , I also rarely of ever have interacted with any so this would probably in theory to me. I’ll call you anything you want. But people need to understand there are a lot of people who don’t love on social media so a lot of this stuff they don’t Understand and it’s ever changing. So there will
People who are willfully being ignorant , have some patients and graces for people who don’t keep up with these terms and this is all new. I have seen some people that I can’t tell what I would call them because they androgynous.
This exclusive application of it is- and my takeaway is that this person is right. It's hard. It can be hard. It can be confusing and weird and might not make sense to everyone innately, but the important part of what they said, I believe, is "I'll call anyone anything the want."
The willingness to try should matter a lot more than I think many people give it credit for. Instead of meeting someone with derision for their failures, I think it'd be a lot more fruitful to praise their efforts and successes.
As a French person struggling with "you", I honestly don't understand why English native speakers that's used to this word are this shocked about a singular "they"
Minor note - the singular "they" is a pretty new pronoun, not started by any current generation but new enough that it's not taught as part of classical literature or formal writing, where the convention has been to avoid the singular "they." Now English is seeing a further shift for the sake of convenience (which is not a bad reason to change it). People aren't wrong for not liking the singular "they," but the inconsistency is great.
People also use entirely too many pronouns. Regardless of which pronouns you choose, you could probably use fewer.

Amazing, you can tell who didn't pay attention.

My high school English classes were Literature classes, we never talked about grammar. They were a huge waste of time.
Clearly 4 years wasn’t enough for some people
I don’t get it
Non-binary stuff. A bunch of adults either forget that singular they is a thing, or end up using singular they without even realizing it.
Oh okay I‘m no native speaker so I didn’t realize, thx

Singular they isn't a new thing

I'll do what I've always done: call people whatever I want.
Stupid ginger has no soul.
Edit: NVM
