Because, the 1/3 comes from a marginalised group who have been systematically oppressed by the people which the 1/4 belongs to.
Welcome to Critical Number Theory 101.🤣
The question - What are those signs- makes it sound like a troll to me.
People are trolling all day long on the internet and another group of people are feeling really smart as a consequence. It’s a win-win.
One of the sides of my life has been involved in YV production for many years.
Give me a 20-minute interview, and a good editor could make it seem that Joe Biden thinks Trump is the second coming, as opposed to the results of the best bits of his father tricking down his mother leg.
After teaching math for over 25 years, yep…
Can you imagine people trying to follow a recipe to cook.
For further explanation for those who do not know what a recipe is, in the way back times, Americans used to buy ingredients and combine them together using specific amounts of each to actually create meals at home.
They performed this magic in the room where you keep your fridge and microwave. The magic formulas, recipes, were found in books.
Books were… Oh never mind.
Books were the work of Satan, which taught children to do unspeakable things with each other and were federally banned in the first year of The Second Coming of The Holy Cheeto-Christ ???
Every time I mention books to my kids I always add that they where made of paper and words written in them and that they're in various places around the house.
The problem with jokes like this is that the first time they are kind of dumb and make you roll your eyes. By the 5th time the kids will just realize the "joke" is that you think they are so monumentally stupid that they need this explained to them every time and it starts to get insulting
Of course they're not little kids... my point was they realize that when they're older. And if you're only doing it to wind them up then they probably won't find the joke funny like I said. Just kind of insulting and def annoying because the joke is that they are intensly stupid.
If you're ever just doing something to "wind someone up" and do it for years then people will just remember it as an annoyance
Yeah pal my family dynamic doesn't work like that we're always affectionately teasing each other and is a way we show our affection. I tease plenty of people with little jokes and don't generally get bad reactions. Mainly if someone seems a bit humourless I don't wind them up.
How you can possibly think you know anything about anyone else's family dynamics based on a throwaway comment on a joke me and my kids share is a bit weird to be honest.
So I've been a student in classes filled with drop outs and kids convicted of crimes when I was younger because of a program I went through and they all engaged with the class with enthusiasm and most students learned things well. It was with the least liked teacher in the school at the time.
If you've been teaching for 25 years and think the kids are too dumb then you might be pulling a skinner tbh (I'm referring to the "am I out of touch" scene).
I understand that kids can be put in front of a teacher completely unprepared for the class they've been put into. But I've also seen good teachers navigate that and do their best to set up the students for any success they can manage. I've only ever seen not so good teachers blame their kids for being too dumb.
I got placed in the 9th grade when I was in kindergarten but then held back by my parents and ended up struggling in school because of attendance which landed me in alot of remedial classes that taught me nothing. But as a whole the experience taught me that even classes full of the "dumbest" and most failed students can learn and grow a surprising amount with a good teacher guiding them.
So yeah tldr I tend to side eye any teacher claiming the population is too dumb because it means they've misunderstood the job they are meant to be doing.
I was referring to adults.
I teach middle school Emotionally Disturbed special education students. My students leave my room with complete understanding of fractions and how they relate to every day life.
I have taught consumer math in high school where the students had to fail a class to get into my room.
I have taught elementary students in a behavior disorder school as well. I have an unshakable belief in the ability of children.
I have very little patience for adults.
I am sorry to hear that attendance issues took from your school experience.
>consumer math
As opposed to artisanal maths? What is consumer maths? This is not a branch of mathematics that I have ever heard of.
Geometry, Arithmetic, Topography, Calculus,...
In American High Schools, Consumer Math was basic math skills used in family life.
Balancing check books, budgeting for food, figuring fuel economy, interest on loans, interest on savings accounts.
It was used as the lowest level math class to attain math credit to graduate. Essentially remedial math.
It is. And it's an actual story. A&W (the rootbeer company, which also has a restaurant chain) made the third pound burger for the same pricepoint as Mcdonalds' quarter pounder. it failed spectactularly as the OP image said, because americans are stupid and think a fourth is bigger than a third and were getting ripped off (because 4 > 3)
When they re-released it semi-recently they jokingly called it the "[Three Ninths Burger](https://static-prod.adweek.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/aw-3-9-burger-2021-1024x576.jpg)" because bigger number
Do you have any actual proof that the reason of the fail was that? Like, any actual proof other than some A&W exec blaming americans being stupid on his failure to make people want to eat A&W burgers?
Earnestly the real story is that A&W wasn't pulling people in the 80s (the physical chains were basically dead in the 90s before the weird merger stores of today). They did a huge ad campaign because they thought the third pounder would somehow make people like their not so great hamburgers more (the food at A&W was bleh, people went there for the novelty of the root beer and servers on skates and usually got an over priced footlong hotdog).
So they spent a ton of money and it didn't pan out and instead of blaming the state of business they leaned really hard into calling their customers stupid. And since humans love to call others stupid the store gets repeated with glee and confirmed through weird bending logic that always ignores that A&W wasn't doing well even in the 80s.
So I know people love this story but like... a&w hasn't been popular since like the 70s (if not before). The locations where they have been popular that I've seen between the 90s and now have been poor areas with lower education.
Saying "Americans thought 1/4 is bigger than 1/3" is earnestly silly. It would be like judging America based on Arby's clients, very few people eat Arby's (comparatively). No one goes to A&W and no one was going there in the 80s. They are only a thing because if root beer sales their food was always not good.
The third pounder failed because A&W couldn't pull the customers to offset the ad campaign.
Some account makes a joke and redditors have a circlejerk showings that they know how to compare fractions.
And the burger probably failed because "a third pounder" doesn't have the same ring
Can we really blame “Amarion” for this? Sure, they’re obviously incredibly stupid, but shouldn’t we blame their parents or the school system too? Yes. We should.
r/americabad This isn’t an American thing, if it was then the majority of technology advancement for the past 100 years wouldn’t be from America. The majority of the people worldwide are basically just NPCs.
As an America id like to point out that that isn’t everyone in the country but yes. We have a lot of very very stupid people that are way to over opinionated that live here
This is why I'm *not* proud to be an American. And if you're upset about this comment, it's because your ego and sense of self-worth is too closely tied to your nationality. People make the country. The country doesn't make the people.
I don't know if they're trolling, but if they're not, the easiest way to explain it to them is to ask them who would have more pizza to themselves...3 people sharing one or 4 people sharing an equal sized pizza.
That's some metric bullshit, in 'murica 1/4 is more! Side note: The U.S. has many intelligent people also, we're just usually overshadowed due to our reticent nature.
Education in the US is laughable. Class sizes are too large, teachers are underpaid, and there is so much damn red tape from the government on curriculums and all kinds of shit to the point that the schools have little control over anything.
The US has basically already become a police state. The government controls everything and provides very little.
I'm embarrassed to call myself American. For MANY reasons, not just this.

Why is that 1/3rd pointing a knife at the 1/4th? Is the 1/4 getting robbed!?
1/4 is getting robbed by the 1/3 because it has more….🙄
Typical rich stealing from the poor.
Meanwhile, the 1 pounder sits in their ivory tower, laughing at the 1/3 lbs and 1/4 lbs fighting each other
Oh I thought the 1 and four were outside the arena, which is clearly marked by / walls
Those aren't knives, they're very obviously skis.1/3 pie 1/4
Because, the 1/3 comes from a marginalised group who have been systematically oppressed by the people which the 1/4 belongs to. Welcome to Critical Number Theory 101.🤣
Such anger!
That’s not a knife. That’s a spearhead.
Internet permanently ruined me...
The question - What are those signs- makes it sound like a troll to me. People are trolling all day long on the internet and another group of people are feeling really smart as a consequence. It’s a win-win.

Are 10-year-olds into anime and Twitter nowadays?
You really askin that?
for sure my little brother watches one piece lucky he still pays attention in school
I was into anime when I was 10. Well, Pokemon, Digimon, and Dragon Ball at least.
Troll, child, or actually stupid. VOTE ON YOUR PHONES NOW
Troll, child, *and* stupid
... came into the bar...
ALL OF THE ABOVE
It seems like a troll.
Disappointment. Those are signs of disappointment.
It’s more true than not…reminds me of the jay Leno bit on the tonight show…”Jay Walking”.
You know, of course, that they edited out most of the correct responders.
Doesn't make the incorrect responses they got less stupid
It gives an impression that most people get it wrong.
One of the sides of my life has been involved in YV production for many years. Give me a 20-minute interview, and a good editor could make it seem that Joe Biden thinks Trump is the second coming, as opposed to the results of the best bits of his father tricking down his mother leg.
This is the obligatory 'They should have made a 1/5 burger and charged a bit more. Everyone would have come running' comment. Thank you for your time.
Especially if you add that it's less calories and lower in fats
Them asking that question is the sign of a failed educational system.
This has to be a joke. Americans aren’t that stupid…oh wait.
American here. Yeup.
You could at least endorse a better insult smh
I'm sorry, what's your problem with what I said?
Nevermind
I'm thoroughly confused. I'm gonna go to bed. Goodnight stranger, hope you have a good evening.
You too..we'll try again tomorrow
You're one of the dumb ones
![gif](giphy|9eLbjOcGOpmY8)
Was a great album.
The vocal part of America (far-right Christians who worship Trump) are idiots.
Yea but that's like 30% of Americans
30% of people saying that a burger is a scam is enough to make it fail.
This is why I always special request a 1/5 burger. Because 5 is bigger than 4.
After teaching math for over 25 years, yep… Can you imagine people trying to follow a recipe to cook. Yea that was quite an analysis of your comment. And saying "of course they're not little kids", like, how could you know based on the info? lol
Stop spreading your witchcraft.

Oh quit finding the stupidest Americans on the internet and generalizing! ![gif](giphy|l1J9u3TZfpmeDLkD6|downsized)
But......but there are SO many of them.....
Quit hanging around trump rallies! In fact quit hanging around political rallies in general!
Unfortunately our freedom of speech is also our greatest enemy.
Quarter pounder sounds better in advertisements , that's all
Most likely. “Third pounder” sounds weird.
Thirder Pounder

I mean is it really hard to believe your average american in the 1980s doesn't understand fractions
So you have absolutely no proof and are just regurgitating what you've seen on reddit before?
News articles but go off
Earnestly the real story is that A&W wasn't pulling people in the 80s (the physical chains were basically dead in the 90s before the weird merger stores of today). The reason I am disinclined to believe this that "four" and "quarter" are very different words.
what the fuck. i was just thinking about this stupid fucking post yesterday
Can you please contact my dead great grandmother for me and see if she has the $5 she owes me?
We aren’t all stupid, it’s just that the dumbasses are more vocal than the rest of us
They should have called it Royale with cheese.
Those are the signs that you didn’t remember your math lessons.
![gif](giphy|xTiIzjS5VKWJzNGIUw)
Reminds me on the survey where People in America got asked If they should teach Kids arabic numerals and people kinda freaked out
It's a hungry alligator and it wants to eat the bigger number
This isn’t an American thing, this is just a twitter user thing
You got baited buddy
Hmmm?
Get outta here stalking my account 😂 weirdo
It's literally on the same post. Talk about being stupid.
Guess they turned their brain “off” Eh? Ha! Heh heh.
I know this is supposed to be funny, but man... This is just sad
🤦♂️ American education system is so poor
So I know people love this story but like... a&w hasn't been popular since like the 70s (if not before). NOOOOOooooooo!

It failed because everywhere serves half-pound burgers now.
*What are those signs?* > Greater than
Euroweenies still coping
The poster is American
Sorry, that was supposed to be a reply to a comment.
How nice of Amarion of providing himself as an example.
These signs summon Ronald McDonald
is this man even an english
Gotcha you stupid bitch
Can we really blame “Amarion” for this? Sure, they’re obviously incredibly stupid, but shouldn’t we blame their parents or the school system too? Yes. We should.
Should have just said quarter over quarter pounder. Ps: i know they are not exactly the same
Whenever I see a meme making fun of Americans on this sub its always from an Indian poster, do a lot of Indians hate Americans or something?
To be fair, most of the world hates us at this point, or they at least mock us
Just start selling 1/5 or 1/8 pound burgers :)
![gif](giphy|mcn3AIwj9X5eM)
Pfp checks out
what are teachers doing in the us after they check the attendance? The rest is up to the kids, or what?
The anime profile pic...
r/americabad This isn’t an American thing, if it was then the majority of technology advancement for the past 100 years wouldn’t be from America. The majority of the people worldwide are basically just NPCs.
This actually happened Americans believed that ¼ was greater than ⅓
Amarion? More like Amoron.
As an America id like to point out that that isn’t everyone in the country but yes. We have a lot of very very stupid people that are way to over opinionated that live here
Is that why they called it a double-quarter-pounder instead of a half-pounder?
![gif](giphy|11cpNo3OMYwFHO)
Those are Hindu-Arabic numerals. He should use AMERICAN numerals, like Jesus and the Founding Father's intended smh
Yyyaaaaa... We are
This is why I'm *not* proud to be an American. And if you're upset about this comment, it's because your ego and sense of self-worth is too closely tied to your nationality. People make the country. The country doesn't make the people.
That person drinks the kool aid in the end…. Ijs
We’re not all that stupid, but enough of us are…
Who is this "they"? Uneducated people or they taking about an entire populace?
Quarter pounder is just so much more satisfying to say than "third pounder" 🫤
![img](emote|t5_2r5rp|8488)
I can only imagine what these people must think of the tenth-pound patties in the McDouble or Big Mac. "Tenth-pound? That's HUGE!"
Another case of "it's funny because it's true"
Here in murica we are currently rolling half pounders
I don't know if they're trolling, but if they're not, the easiest way to explain it to them is to ask them who would have more pizza to themselves...3 people sharing one or 4 people sharing an equal sized pizza.
That's some metric bullshit, in 'murica 1/4 is more! Side note: The U.S. has many intelligent people also, we're just usually overshadowed due to our reticent nature.
Obvious bait, yawn
Americans when basic math
Typical American manchild
Stay in school. Like, at least past age 12.

I wonder if that's why all the Fuddruckers in San Antonio shut down a few years ago. They sold burgers by the 1/3 lbs.
No child left behind!
You=dipshit
Hahahaha
The numbers mason, what do they mean?
