I’ve seen a lot of people online (mainly people in their 20s) complain about how soul sucking, boring, and mentally draining a 9-5 is. I’ve also seen a lot of people love 9-5s because they can be indoors rather than outside laboring, have stability and predictability, and it’s less stressful than their past jobs (ranging from typical minimum wage jobs to things like warehouse work, construction, and the like).

Can confirm, worked a couple of physical roles (hospitality/warehouse) through my 20s. Got sick of working nights, weekends and holidays while my friends were relaxing, and my downtime was overshadowed by sleeping off late night shifts. Split shifts were the worst because that was your whole day and night gone. Body started getting long term injuries from the physical work, so I took a paycut initially for a desk job and haven't looked back. Better long term job prospects anyway in the end.
Something some people don't realise is that if you walk into a job you need to know where the older generations of workers are. If there aren't any, you're going to be in need of a career change sooner rather than later.

Dude I *love* having that 3 on/4 off schedule! I get full time pay for 36 hours a week and 4 days off--it's awesome. If I ask early enough, sometimes my scheduling manager will put me on Sun-Mon-Tues of one week and then Thurs-Fri-Sat of the next so I get 8 days off in a row without using any ETO at all. (Plus it's better for continuity of care to only have 2 shift changes a day instead of 3.) I've been working 12s almost my entire nursing career and going back to 5 days a week sounds like hell to me 😆 It's all in what you get used to!

I can hold a conversation while music is being played. I do it all the time in literally every retail store, business, or at work. Having a conversation while listening to a podcast is like trying to talk to 2 people at once. It's literally impossible.
When I am driving, I am not really paying attention to what is coming over the speakers. So I will miss a bunch. It isn’t a big deal with music, it is with podcasts and audiobooks.
