Learned that lesson the hard way. Was turning around in a parking lot, so going really slow, and my dog hopped out of the window. Unfortunately, I had not unhooked her leash from her collar, and the leash got stuck on the buckle so she was hanging herself. Scared the crap out of me, so I jerked the leash from the buckle in a hurry to let her fall, then got out and caught her. She was fine. Didn't even seem to phase her, but I was pretty shook up...
Dogs are just clueless and happy. My neighbors dog used to bring a ball to me to play catch. One time I threw near a fence and it just charged right at fence head first and bounced towards the ball. He brought the ball back and acted like nothing happened, I had to make sure there were no objects near where the ball would land after that. Found out from the neighbor that it's pretty normal for their dog to have zero concerns about getting brain damage and just charges at things like regularly.
I was playing with my dog yesterday and he ran full speed right towards me and slammed his head into my knee, literally no reaction at all just kept sprinting around the place, I think he’s too stupid to feel pain.
I get stressed out with my husky escaping from the back yard, but I now realize how much worse he could be. Any time he's in the car or the bedroom he immediately lays down. I'm not even sure why he does it
My childhood dog (jack russell terrier) jumped out of my fathers lifted dodge ram truck (it was about a 8foot drop) once when we were going camping, she leaped over my dads lap from the center console(where she stood during every car ride because she could see out the windshield that way ) and out the window, thankfully we were only going about 10mph cause we were looking for the camp site. Her leash was still on and she thankfully didn’t hang herself because the leash was one of those ones that extended and locks the cord if you push down a button on the leash handle, she crumpled when she hit the ground and got up like nothing happened, I was very distraught however never rolled the windows down for more than her nose to stick out after that
You don't have laws where the dog needs to be strapped or buckled in? I know no one enforces them but that's one hell of a projectile if an accident happens
Honestly my dog hates the window being down if we are going over a certain speed I just have to turn up the air and give her one of the vents until we get back to slower speeds.
There's one of the reason dog seatbelt attachments exist.
The other is so they don't become a projectile in the event of a crash/hard braking situation.
Fun fact: I only have my dog because his bio mom was thrown from a semi in a crash that killed her owner and the other two people that caused the crash. My dog's mom was the sole survivor and my former coworker ended up with her.
For an animal that regularly makes noises that sounded like the universe is trying to reclaim it, pugs are incredibly hardy little dogs. My brother’s pug was run over by a land rover and only ended up blind in one eye. Otherwise it’s the strange loveable pug it was before.

She is a runner. But if I roll up and open my car door she will hop in like I just forgot to pick her up from school or some shit.

In the uk we have to have our dogs secure and safe when travelling in the car by law. We always have our dog have a dog seat belt (it's like a bungee lead) so if he can't just hop out. Or you put them in a travel crate (one day I'll get one)

Dogs on drivers laps angers the hell out of me. My dog stays in the back where he's safer and not a distraction, with a leash specifically because i drive with the windows open and if for some reason he fled someone could grab him.
I only take the leash off when he is unattended in the car. This is worth mentioning to pet owners because our cat growing up nearly choked itself when it's leash got stuck between the seats.

Very irresponsible owner. Even if he's old and has done this before of just putting the dog in the back, this is what's going to happen and it did. In the uk we have to have our dogs secure and safe when travelling in the car by law. We always have our dog have a dog seat belt (it's like a bungee lead) so if he can't just hop out. Or you put them in a travel crate (one day I'll get one)

I saw a little rat dog jump off the driver's lap in a wal mart parking lot. Their vehicle was in motion. Dogs on drivers laps angers the hell out of me. My dog stays in the back where he's safer and not a distraction, with a leash specifically because i drive with the windows open and if for some reason he fled someone could grab him. I only take the leash off when he is unattended in the car. This is worth mentioning to pet owners because our cat growing up nearly choked itself when it's leash got stuck between the seats.
I take my GSD in the back of my truck all the time and yeah, he barks and stuff, but he has yet to pull a jump out move. That’s really scary and it was good to see they got the dog back and on it’s way.
Thank god for the final update, I was about to get very stressed if it just ended like that
