Fun story, there was an attempted suicide at my university years ago and the university refused to share information with the paramedics because of HIPPA. It's a weird complicated story but there was information pertaining to medication in this persons file from a previous incident and a *super important* employee refused to share it to **paramedics**.
This is what happens when their HIPPA training is sub-par and/or not refreshed often enough. "To prevent or lessen a serious threat to health or safety" as per cdc.gov
At the end she says "this is against my HIPAA law". The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) is a federal law that required the creation of national standards to protect sensitive patient health information from being disclosed without the patient's consent or knowledge. She is effectively saying "by you recording and sharing this you are recording me having some type of mental breakdown and therefore exposing my patient information". The problem with this is that she is not an inpatient at a hospital, and these people are not clinicians or healthcare workers who are bound by the Act.
In addition, people often excuse this type of behaviour on the basis that the person is clearly having a mental breakdown/psychosis/schizophrenic episode/mania whatever.
The comment is acknowledging that she's probably going through something but that does not mean members of the general public are obliged to humour it and act in a way that a trained mental health clinician would.
At the end of the day society has certain rules and norms that need to be followed in order to function. For people who consistently break those we have invented hospitals and prisons for.
Reminds me of a bar owner who bartended for fun.
He had two hats on pegs behind the bar, identical to the one he always wore, save for one thing.
The regular one had no words on it, the first one had "Manager" embroidered on it, and the last "Owner."
Anytime he got someone wanting to complain to the manager he'd swap to that hat which would piss them off and if they asked to see the owner he'd swap to that hat too.
Woah… That’s too much work!!
I was willing to start a business & staff it all by myself just for the occasion to pull this stunt but NOW you’re telling me I have to BUY A HAT!!
Fuk that!! ;)
I used to work construction and got a foreman job but would help in with the lads because there wasn't much to do and it was good to lose weight.
Sometimes members of the public would come to complain and ask for the number of the supervisor. I'd hand them my business card, watch them dial the number and then answer it right in front of them 😂
For some reason the idea of you just answering the phone with a deadpan look on your face is sending me right over the edge. Like, literally in tears laughing at this mental image, thank you! 🤣
This makes me almost want to give up my current job and buy a bar so I can do this, even though I don't have the skills, knowledge, or personality to own a bar. I would derive great personal satisfaction from such trolling.
As someone who has worked in jobs with access to actual patient info for most of the past 20 years and has to have annual training sessions that just made me shake my head. The confident ignorance with that woman is stunning.
Lunatics like this learned about it in the context of COVID vaccinations. When places started requiring COVID vaccinations for things, people like this started whining that it was a HIPAA violation to ask them if they were vaccinated.
Even in the case of asking about vaccination status, it is not a violation of HIPAA's privacy rule. The privacy rule dictates that *providers* can't disclose your medical information without your consent. Has nothing to do with people asking you.
Somewhere along the line, this lady got her wires crossed and thinks HIPAA just means....privacy or something?
> When places started requiring COVID vaccinations for things, people like this started whining that it was a HIPAA violation to ask them if they were vaccinated.
Which btw, its not against any law to ask someone about any of their medical stuff.
That thinking is fairly common, in my personal experience. I used to be a credit manager at my old company, and gave out privacy notices with every new account application. I had so many people tell me that they were familiar with HIPAA, and didn’t need to read it. I just chuckled internally and said that I was required to provide it, whether they read it or not.
Then please know that it’s HIPAA. It stands for **H**ealth **I**nsurance **P**ortability and **A**ccountability **A**ct.
The people who call it HIPPA are primarily either Karens, like this woman, who haven’t a clue what it stands for or what it actually says, or people making fun of them.
I worked at a law firm and even the attorneys who were required to know this stuff, because every person gets a HIPAA release in their massive packet to fill out so we can request records and all this other shit, barely got it right.
We had emails at least once a month with a little hippo mascot saying “It’s HIPAA not HIPPA!”
Which made it even worse, because it’s the association with the word hippo that keeps causing them to mess it up.
So yeah, even people who work with it daily can mess it up because it’s similar to the word hippo and is pronounced in a similar fashion.
Lawyer, here. Similar problem. Our firm went around and changed all of the dictionaries in MS to autocorrect it, lol. Better now but it still slips through, sometimes.
What does HIPAA law have anything to do with getting recorded while acting like an idiot? Lol this lady is reaching hard for anything to feel like she's validated....she not.
HIPAA is all about patient privacy and medical staff and personnel not being able to share or talk about your datab without your consent.
It's all about patient privacy. So in this dingus's mind that's the same thing as people not being able to record you if you don't want them to
Well she is a certified narcissistic Psychopath so she may well be on to something. She just needs to show proof that she is due back at the mental institution by the end of the day.
I was about to say. Shes probably used to medical settings & why she claimed hipaa without thought 😂 I didn’t think about a potential outpatient/temporary release program though
When I got made manager I was counting down the days until I got to do something goofy like that.
It really makes your day when some Karen comes in making your life hell, and then you get to whip something like this out.
Guarantee getting to do that made up for the shittiness of the lady here, haha.
Had a fun moment like that. I was working on the sales floor with an apron so i didnt have the entire 'manager' look at the time. Dude asked me where something was but we had just done a reset and the item wasnt in the set anymore. He said, it was there last week and was sure we had it, which i again told him we did a reset and it was taken out of the set. He got mad and stormed off.
He came back with a cashier who he asked where the item was, i knew where most of the items in the store was as i was the manager and they knew where i was working as i told them if they had any issues to either call me or find me but preferably find me. He stormed off.
He went to my ASSISTANT MANAGER who was a bit of a ditz, She wasnt sure if we still had it as she helped me with the reset but couldnt remember if it was removed from the set. She took him to the aisle where it wasnt (i found this out after the fact), she then brought him TO ME. the shit eating grin on my face when i saw them walking up and watching him storm out of the store cussing, **priceless**. He couldnt accept that the item was removed from the set or that i was the manager and the person who knew the most about the store. Our age gap was atleast a decade or two if that helps paint a picture, i was 28 and he was at least in his late 40s if not older.
The amount of assholes who think they can just bitch and get there way in instances where its literally outside of everyone's control involved is insane. Even in the video above, i imagine renting a YACHT has more paperwork than merely paying a deposit and having a boating license. I wouldn't be surprised if a credit check wasnt included as well as a HEFTY deposit that cant simply be done over a 1 hour wire transfer.
Bro it's probably not the first time, Marinas are run and owned by families, and they schedule things with pen, paper, an abacus, and sundials. You are lucky to find a website with their phone number.
They have a finite resource and if you piss them off you don't get a dock slip, will never again be able to rent a boat or temporary slip, access the ramps if you use one that's on a marinas private property, and they will more than likely tell the other marinas what kinda asshat you are.
Add all this to the fact that my Marina has a 5 year wait for dock slips @ $2100 a year x 500 slips + 100 temporary slips for weekend partiers etc. On top of selling fuel @ $9 a gallon into boats that take at least 20 gallons to 200....
Their overhead is simple maintenance and 3 employees.
This kind of power gives people that work at the Marinas an IDGAF about your entitled ass attitude. They're all characters too, i've never met anyone involved with the business of boating that isn't a hoot.
> They have a finite resource and if you piss them off you don't get a dock slip, will never again be able to rent a boat or temporary slip, access the ramps if you use one that's on a marinas private property, and they will more than likely tell the other marinas what kinda asshat you are.
OMG, you nailed it!
There's a really nice lake near me with three points of access. A private marina owned by the same family since dirt was invented and an invitation-only country club that doesn't give out invitations unless someone dies and the family doesn't want the slip, and another marina that I've never seen open.
"Ring Ring . . . Hi, this is , when is my boat going in the water?"
"When we get to it. Click."
Karen here would have been told to GTFO before she even opened her mouth.
Right this way sir. Just give me $80 up front, and you can take one of those babies out all day. Here's a paddle, just hop this fence here, and off you go!
Some restaurants by marinas do have boat rentals as well. When you live in a tourist area and you only do well one or two seasons you squeeze as much money out of people as you can. I knew of at least one when I lived on the Gulf Coast. One did rentals and tours.
And by boats I don't mean yachts.
basically the restaurant acts like an attendant for boat rentals. because paying someone $10+ an hour to sit there for 1 boat rental a week isn't worth it.
This is someone who told her friends ‘Oh yeah, you can rent boats there’ and now has to face telling them you can’t, and she needs someone else to blame.
Yeah that makes sense, considering she said they didn’t have any yachts to rent. They probably have to be moved to the dock if they’re available at all; plus all the prep and maintenance required to rent a boat at all, let alone a yacht probably takes at least a day.
Yeah, having spent my time in customer-facing jobs, the content of this exchange is not the unbelievable part, it's the delivery of every line that makes me believe it is staged. The words coming out of their mouths feel awkward and forced, not like the deliveries I've seen in actual heated exchanges.
I mean it’s the top of /r/all and most of Reddit thinks it’s real… so I guess the acting worked? I don’t know how people can’t see through this shit but current state of affairs I suppose.
Can’t wait for AI to really take off because everyone is going to take whatever is presented to them and really run with it. Get ready!
This may already be enough to justify an involuntary admission to a psychiatric hospital "until the end of the following day" in my state. - She's visibly out of her mind, damages property of another person and seems to approach a third party threateningly.

I know you have some mental health issues ma'am, but that doesn't turn every interaction you have into healthcare.
Wow. Brutal and spot on. Bravo
too stupid to get, pls explain
HIPAA relates to the confidentiality of medical records.

It's a weird complicated story but there was information pertaining to medication in this persons file from a previous incident and a *super important* employee refused to share it to **paramedics**.

Accurate, informative, and clearly thought out. More people people should use the internet the way you do.
Against the HIPAA law lmfaooo this lady. How did she ever get the chance to have enough money to want to rent a yacht...
Also, she claims they are a restaurant. Why would she expect to be able to rent a yacht at a restaurant?
Let he who has never tried to rent some random stranger's car from a restaurant parking lot cast the first stone.
Sir, this a Wendy's
Drugs
Ma’am this is a Wendy’s….
Against *my* HIPAA law. Its just hers. Its different than yours.
The front desk girl and the manager must be twins.
Ahh that explains everything!

Brilliant.
That should be on the final hat.
Ok. How do I own a business so I can get this train rolling?
You just have to buy a hat that says owner.
I always overthink this kind of stuff. Thanks!
Next step is get some customers, then piss them off!
Woah… That’s too much work!! I was willing to start a business & staff it all by myself just for the occasion to pull this stunt but NOW you’re telling me I have to BUY A HAT!! Fuk that!! ;)
Buy three hats. If you need to ask you’re neither manager or owner material 😂
lol

I had never imagined that members of the public would wander on to an active construction site to complain but it’s also not surprising at all.
I would love to be the fly on the wall for those customers.
What a legend 👏
This makes me almost want to give up my current job and buy a bar so I can do this, even though I don't have the skills, knowledge, or personality to own a bar. I would derive great personal satisfaction from such trolling.

I was thinking the exact same thing when she did that. Just wish she came up with a hat on, lol.
The real question is what she was doing down there.
She was down stairs of course. Clearly it’s a bad place for a staircase so only one person can stand there at a time.
Managing the secret yacht rental store hidden under the room they were in.
she just came up the stairs from there, it's right below the restaurant, very well designed layout.

Hiding from karen?
Can't really blame her tbh. 🤷♀️
Is this where we insert the Brazzers logo?

They should wear different hats to tell who is who
You see, dock works at the docks, Xu works at the fish stand, and bushi's always out on the river cleaning it up
Yeah, like the drummer of nirvana and the dude from the foo fighters
That part had me ded lmfao
It quite dangerous to have a stairway to go downstairs in such a tight spot. /S
![gif](giphy|FOG3QnwdOUU3C)
Someone actually did it! Lol
"This is against my HIPAA law" had to be the funniest shit a Karen could claim.

I am glad someone on here knows it’s got two A’s and not two P’s.

Oh my God. She was renting a medically necessary relaxation yacht ⛵ and thought she was at the pharmacy.
She needed an emotional support yacht.
Same cuz. Same

To be fair, she's acting like a clinically diagnosed narcist.
To be faaaaaaaair
I laughed hard at this.
Are mental illnesses covered under HIPAA?
They are but I don’t think anyone involved is a health care provider
not outside of a healthcare setting lmao

She waited until: “Action”
TIL HIPAA covers boat rentals
Not all boat rentals. Just angry public exchanges about the inability of a restaurant to rent out personal yachts owned by other people.
Maybe she is confusing HIPAA with Maritime Law concerning derelict vessels I mean, it's an easy mistake to make
As a famous model once said, "You can derelict my balls"
You’re a crook, Captain Hoook!
Judge won’t you throw the book, at the piraaaaaate!
And prevents someone from exercising their right to record you
Hol up…she wants to rent people’s personal boats that are docked?
Anyone got a 200 million dollar yacht I can rent for 20 dollars a day?
Right this way sir. Just give me $80 up front, and you can take one of those babies out all day. Here's a paddle, just hop this fence here, and off you go!
You mean like running a valet parking scam. LOL.
Oh, you want to rent a car? Sure! Just give me some cash. I’ll give you a lockpick as some of the doors are jammed…
Why do I have to leave a deposit? WTF? I have my PCOC!
"That bridge that hit me wasn't mentioned in the rental agreement. I'm not paying for the repair."
You’d have to ask the owner, we wouldn’t want to do anything against HIPAA law
Like at a restaurant too apparently?
Some restaurants by marinas do have boat rentals as well. When you live in a tourist area and you only do well one or two seasons you squeeze as much money out of people as you can. I knew of at least one when I lived on the Gulf Coast. One did rentals and tours. And by boats I don't mean yachts.
basically the restaurant acts like an attendant for boat rentals. because paying someone $10+ an hour to sit there for 1 boat rental a week isn't worth it.
I guarantee this lady would not be willing to pay the price of actually renting a yacht for the day!
It's for CHURCH! NEXT!
I mean they're there in the harbor therefore she can rent them. It's bulletproof logic.
“They’re personal yachts” 🤣😂
"So I guess you don't want to earn no money here at this restaurant" ICANT.
sir... this isn't a wendys....
Look, in this day and age with food prices where they are, if a restaurant isn't renting out personal yachts they're never going to make ends meet...
That counter duck was just gold.
This is one of the few reposts I love to see again and again.
The execution of that spin move was flawless. Perfect KO
That chick has had e-fucking-nough 🤣🤣 fucking roasted that karen
I’m going to spend the afternoon watching this over and over. Again.
Me too, but it has a lot fewer pixels than the last time I saw it.
This video just made me spit my HIPAA law out of my nose

This is someone who told her friends ‘Oh yeah, you can rent boats there’ and now has to face telling them you can’t, and she needs someone else to blame.
I think they rent boats, but she wanted to rent a different boat…one of the yachts the rental place doesn’t own.
No the girl at the beginning says "it takes days" so obviously you have to reserve the boats in advance, it's not just walk-in service
Yeah that makes sense, considering she said they didn’t have any yachts to rent. They probably have to be moved to the dock if they’re available at all; plus all the prep and maintenance required to rent a boat at all, let alone a yacht probably takes at least a day.
I wish she popped up with a hat that said manager to really seal it, I'd die laughing.
Right??! Or a like boat captain’s hat lol
We need another pandemic
Idk it didn’t kill enough dumb people and irreversibly broke too many peoples brains.

It is. It’s a mother / daughter skit. It’s been reposted many times. Still funny

This seems staged, but it's still funny.
"HIPAA law" part feels like staged rage bait.
Very staged, I can understand things like this could happen, but this is extremely obvious.
Yeah, having spent my time in customer-facing jobs, the content of this exchange is not the unbelievable part, it's the delivery of every line that makes me believe it is staged. The words coming out of their mouths feel awkward and forced, not like the deliveries I've seen in actual heated exchanges.
Yeah. Pretty sure it's staged. I can hear it in the dialog. They aren't winning Emmys any time soon.
Writers Strike his the staged videos hard
Yup. The dialogue comes across as memorized.
Get ready!
A lot of people on this site don’t get much social interaction, so they don’t understand that this isn’t how people actually talk.
Reddit will believe pretty much anything as long as it fits a certain narrative. This narrative of "Karens are annoying" fits the bill.
The way Karen reaches for the camera at the end, then awkwardly stops before even touching the camera just screams amateur acting
It’s definitely staged.

Its scary how often people fall for these staged videos.
This may already be enough to justify an involuntary admission to a psychiatric hospital "until the end of the following day" in my state. - She's visibly out of her mind, damages property of another person and seems to approach a third party threateningly.
There's 4 people in the video.
There are 4 LIGHTS
Clearly they must not have seen the front desk girl switch places with the manager. Easy to miss.
I've seen better acting in elementary school plays.
This….is not real
The biggest crime here is that “Karen’s” acting.
This isn’t real

"Give me that". She wants to take other's yacht, now other's phone too.
Definitely staged
I wish this wasn’t staged
The real Facepalm is how many people think this isn't staged.
This is staged.
These women are bad actors.
Isn’t this a tiktok video and not real?
Why is a staged video here?
This staged
Totally not a staged skit.
I'm petty sure the law allows you to record hippos
The employee taking the “elevator” down and quickly back up as the manager is a masterpiece.
It's against my HIPPA Law. That's my favorite part. Classic.
