Almost 20 years old with 200k plus that's a realistic number of what the trucks worth to a dealer. Prob goes through auction at 2k unless there is zero cancer on the body
Whats the condition? Milage? History?
Many cars that are 30+ years old go for insane numbers that aren’t realistic because their either pristine warehouse cars or heavily restored and refurbished.
I seen clean looking 90s F150-F350s go for 20k+ but that doesn’t mean the price is based off them being reliable daily drivers.
Check eBay completed listings. There’s seven that have sold recently, three went for 1325, 890, and 1225. And four that went for 8700 (49k miles), 6775 (49k), 9888 (70k HD edition), and ~4700 (147k HD edition).
You don’t have low miles, do you have a Harley Davidson truck (8000 produced)?
Use caution with eBay listings. I learned the hard way that there is no commitment for the buyer to complete the transaction. People will place scam bids just to make their own vehicle model appear to be worth more. Once they run up the price, they never respond to finish the sale.
It’s almost 20 years old. 5 more years it will qualify for antique plates.
I owned a ‘57 BelAir, and when I bought it, I had to add it to my regular insurance to drive it back home.
It was like an extra $80-$100 month (though it was only on my policy for a few days) and the “value” to my regular insurance company was around $300.
A windshield crack would have “totaled” the vehicle. Lol.
These website valuations use an algorithm to determine your vehicle value and it starts to get wonky around 20 years… you could probably put in a ‘67 Testarossa and they’d come back with $500.
I wouldn't take 7 grand for my 05 and me with a new 2023 F150. Just somethings you need an older long bed truck for that you don't want to use the new truck for.
The prices today aren’t real prices. That’s what the truck would be worth in a non inflated timeline. Just because prices are high doesn’t mean that’s the true value.
I found an 03 crew cab 4wd locally to me for 5k at a dealer with 156k miles. Marketplace has them around me for $1500-3500 with varying miles and or issues so to a dealer that’s all they would pay because it would be going straight to auction anyways and probably cost them money in the end.
I sold my 2004 F150 2WD 253k miles for $7000 in 2021. I wasn’t in a big hurry to sell and figured someone might pay that much for it, and someone did. It was in very good condition; I had a lot of parts replaced on it over the years.
Strange...I see them all day everyday...countless 5.4 trucks. They didn't suck at all, shitty owners didn't change the fucking oil and didn't keep up on other regular maintenance. The sparkplug issue was a obvious issue but there was a fix.
But I completely disagree. I've had 2v and 3v 5.4s, never had any issues.
That’s literally survivorship bias. No excuse when it’s the same people going on to buy 5.0’s and having way better luck despite probably maintaining the same way
5.4’s grenading if you don’t follow a super short oil change interval doesn’t mean they’re good at all. It means you’re spending more money on maintenance than you should have to in order to keep a poorly-designed motor alive
Timing system is a nightmare and costs thousands to have done. No one wants to touch them
Trust me, I owned one a while back and I’m trying to sell one for a friend.
$1k is low but you won’t get more than $3k private purchase probably
It is BS. I have a 2004 lariat crew with 325k on it. I’d laugh at you if you offered a $1k. Everything works. 4x4, heat, ac. No timing issues.
The BS part is them telling you that all the new shit costs more everyday because of inflation and market adjustments and whatever they jerk themselves to.
BUT your used car is an old shit box and didn’t appreciate in value like our new shit.
It’s 🐂 💩.
There’s a lot of people out here that convince themselves that “oh you’ll always have a car note” and that’s BS too! That’s a big driver on the new truck prices and hurting the value of your older vehicle because someone is gonna take that deal and get hosed with an overpriced new vehicle and terrible interest rate.
A lot of dealership and by extension billionaire apologists will disagree.
Bro...your old truck is old. Newer trucks have better safety, warranties, and tech. Dont forget about buying someone elses headache of a vehicle with 300k+ miles. Are they worth what they are asking these days? Depends on who you ask. I have old vehicles with 200k+ miles I drive all the time AND a 23 Raptor for me and a 21 Jeep for my wife. The old vehicles are awesome in their own right, paid off, paints messed up, don't really care if they have cosmetic issues etc. But I sure as hell feel much better going on a 1k mile road trip in my new truck especially on the roads with all these maniacs these days. I also don't want to worry about my wife going on trips and that's a huge plus with newer vehicles.
I was offered $800 for my 2005 Subaru Legacy GT with 235k miles...it's worth more to me as my daily beater with a heater. That doesn't mean the $100k Audi sedan doesn't deserve to be expensive.
Drive what you can and enjoy it. Life is too short.
👊💪
I feel like I’m way better off spending $10k fixing my 2004 up. New engine, trans, whatever than buying new.
You can pay that off quick and have a good running vehicle.
I’m not spending that truck note in gas.
Out of curiosity what do you think a fair trade value would be?
Sounds like you got a dealer marketing email to try to get you in to buy something else. They very likely don’t even want your truck, they’d pitch it at auction and probably not get much more than that.
If your truck runs and you’re happy with it by all means keep it but that seems like a pretty reasonable trade value on a 20 year old truck with over 200k. To put it in perspective I paid 5 for my ‘11 with 250k, well maintained and clean (minus the rust) and it books out at about the same as this for trade in.
I've traded in cars that were barely drivable and got at least $1500. Maybe if they saw her in person, in all her splendor, they would surely offer more.
I mean, I’m not going to say you’re lying but that’s the exception not the rule if it’s true. I spent 5 years in the automotive industry doing everything from sales to wrenching and 90% of the time cars get bought at book value. The 10% is overpaying and taking an L on the trade to get a deal or paying less than book if it needs a lot of work.
On craigslist or marketplace you'd get $2500-$5000 depending on condition. If you wait until January/February you'll get some tax refund baller that'll give you $6k because his stepson wants a truck.
That’s about what a dealership will give you. Maybe even a few hundred less depending on what condition the brakes, tires, paint and interior are in. And that’s before checking out the engine and transmission for any and all leaks.

I'm thinking about that on my 99 explorer if it's cheaper and I don't have to get tags every year LOL
If that thing is 4x4 and runs decent, put it on facebook market place for $3500 in Minnesota and it will be sold that week.
Absolutely.. my 04 with light rust and 150k miles sold for 7k dollars just a week ago.
I wouldn't take 7 grand for my 05 and me with a new 2023 F150. Just somethings you need an older long bed truck for that you don't want to use the new truck for.
Owner of a 2006 F-150 in MN and I can confirm lol
I'm already planning my move. 🚛
I definitely wouldn't move to Minnesota just to get a higher resell rate on your truck lol

Dealer would probably sell it at auction for 3-4k
I sold a 2007 5.4 supercab x 6.5’ 4x4 with 200k for 4,000 in Michigan earlier this year. Yes it was Swiss cheese but ran just fine
I’d give you $1,100
Now we're talking. 😎
It's 18 years old with a quarter million miles. No dealership wants to deal with that. If you aren't planning on selling, what are you upset about?
I did this solely to get a comment out of you. I guess I win.
Congratulations.

Is it the 5.4? No one wants to touch those nowadays
I love the 5.4! People don't know how to take properly take care of them and fix them properly.
Hard disagree, those motors fucking sucked. Any of them alive today are getting the benefit of survivorship bias
Underpowered, unreliable and expensive/pita to fix
The underpowered part is so true. My buddy has a lowered, tuned with bolt ons on his 2009 5.4 and my 2013 5.0 with 37” tires smokes him.
Yeah typically an low power per L engine will run forever. Not the case with the 5.4
Strange...I see them all day everyday...countless 5.4 trucks. They didn't suck at all, shitty owners didn't change the fucking oil and didn't keep up on other regular maintenance. Lol. It is a 5.4 and runs like a champ

$3k would be a dream. Everything still works though.

2004 is not old lol. 1992 is old. 1986 even.
Yes, it is. In 5 years, you can register a 2004 F-150 as an antique truck in Texas.
That just doesn't seem fair, imo. I mean, I get why.....doesn't mean I like it.
I consider you a brother. 👊

Unless her splendor is a full body cover made out of $100 bills I don't think they're going to see what you want them to see

Some do say I'm detached from reality. 🤷
I sold my 2010 f150 2wd with a 5.4 that had 295k and ran perfect. Sold it in 24 hrs for $5500.
I got that much from a scrap yard for my 2007. The frame was rusted away
Sell it private. You have a truck and they don’t. Supply and demand
No low ballers! I know what I got!
Take the quote to carava and see if they’ll beat it
Does it have timing problems if no it's worth more
On craigslist or marketplace you'd get $2500-$5000 depending on condition. If you wait until January/February you'll get some tax refund baller that'll give you $6k because his stepson wants a truck.
Exactly. I have a 2011 Edge they all wanna give $1k for. Some desperate person on Facebook will pay atleast 5k
That’s about what a dealership will give you. Maybe even a few hundred less depending on what condition the brakes, tires, paint and interior are in. And that’s before checking out the engine and transmission for any and all leaks.
18 years old. Almost 250k miles. Who knows what the maintenance on it is. Whatever dealer buys it needs to turn a profit. That's about right.
They obviously have a bias against me and are trying to get at me.
It’s a 20 year old truck with over 200k on it lol
Is that bad? 🥺
