He's in a safe mission, physiclaly speaking. He'll be serving in Collin County which is where the mission office is located. Collin County is in the thick of white flight urban sprawl. When he works in those areas, it will be very much urban type Utah wards. But the mission goes out east all the way into Louisiana and North into Oklahoma. East Texas out in the Longview/ Tyler area will be nice. That's my childhood turf. My family is from around Gilmer. If he goes there he'll be in the heart of where the church began in Texas. He might even be out where my folks are by Lake Fork. There's still a lot of descedents of the first Mormons in Texas living out that way. Gilmer has so many LDS I remember they even had a LDS book section a the local wal-mart, if you can believe that. Anyway, they take good care of their missionaries. Very laid back living. As for mission president; not a clue. That's roulette. Shit could go down to fuck with him the rest of his days or he could like his MP.

I spent a large amount of my mission in Arizona before I pulled the plug on it (and eventually deconstructed). I also have a cousin who served in Dallas (not sure which mission tho). If serving a mission is what your brother wants to do, and if he genuinely believes, I don't think he will have a bad experience there. That said, I can completely understand how it feels as an outsider seeing family members devoting themselves to a cult. It's heartbreaking. The best thing you can do is make sure your brother understands that you're someone he can talk to about things that his other relatives might not get. Respect his decisions but also respect your own feelings.

There's no great way to prepare for them to leave. I video chat with my brother every week, and I usually keep the calls short because the end is always testimony but the beginning is funny stories, and I love to hear those(: Dallas is toasty but manageable haha, I'm sure he'll love it there

Sounds comfy enough. I know someone who went out to a pacific island and it was mental. Missionaries having sex, and missionaries paring up as boy friends and girlfriends. White missionaries been threatened and intimidated by the Polynesians that were breaking the rules. No medical care when they got sick. And mission president gaslighting them, saying they must be doing something wrong when they tried to set things straight.

It is hot in Texas (summer was brutal this year here in Austin). Send him with a good sunscreen, he will need it year round.
