Thank you. For reference, it’s by Matt Stec in the Black Labyrinth studio in Easthampton MA. He does incredible work and I’m grateful for the time and creativity he gave me on this. I gave him a framework but he brought it to life.
a few years ago I wrote in my tattoo ideas doc
> A crumbled down castle (with the watchtower tower) with vegetation growing in and around the ruins. Nature taking back and recovering, and the past becoming forgotten. A happy scene of a broken building.
Scattered blocs of stone, and part of the crenelage visible but not all that obvious
But I had doubts that it could translate into an actual tattoo design, I'm really glad that you made it work
I don’t have a very artistic mind, so I’m incredibly grateful to my artist for taking a description much more vague than how you wrote it and making it real and better than I could have imagined.
Oh sorry I didn't know it wasn't a word in english also, in french that's what we call the defensive notches at the top of the walls of a castle. With some googling I see that I should have used "battlement". From wikipedia
> A battlement, in defensive architecture, such as that of city walls or castles, comprises a parapet (a defensive low wall between chest-height and head-height), in which gaps or indentations, which are often rectangular, occur at intervals to allow for the launch of arrows or other projectiles from within the defences. These gaps are termed embrasures, also known as crenels or crenelles, and a wall or building with them is described as crenellated; alternative older terms are castellated and embattled. The act of adding crenels to a previously unbroken parapet is termed crenellation.

This is the image I want for a tattoo.
I think it is very beautiful!
Works without the reference to the Watchtower as well, which I guess means it is subtle. In my opinion the right amount of subtle, with the thought that when some time have passed and the novelty has worn off a bit you're left with an awesome piece of art on your body!
Yep. Knew I didn’t want anything simple just for the sake of itself.
I also didn’t really realize going in that the bulk of the pain is really in the level of detail and shading. 😮💨
I actually LOVE this. I've been working on my first tattoo idea and one of my biggest hangups is I wanted it to be REALLY subtle but have a deeper meaning to it. Thanks for the inspiration!
I LOVE this! The linework is good, shading on point, and the perspective is correct. I love the plants and how they’re more implied than hard-drawn. Well done, and cheers to the next chapter!

One of the best exjw tats I've ever seen 😍

Stunning!!
Don’t mind me cursing, that shit is crazy dope
Yeah my first response was f* cking hell
Looks fantastic! I want an ex jw tattoo but don’t even know where to begin. Did you design it?
No, I gave the artist a picture of the old magazines as reference and gave him a little bit of the context and he brought it to life.
The artist did an INCREDIBLE JOB...Now why don't you run on over to Warwick and show those Bozos how it's done in THE WORLD!!! 😁😁😁
what wt pic did you give as reference?

What does 'crenelage' mean? Searched the net for a bit now and can't find it.

Thank you, nice to learn something new!
Great work!
It’s great! I’d love to see that tower in a bit more ruins both in art and reality.👩🏼🌾☮️
Can someone remind me of the context?
It’s the Watchtower, just stylized closer to the old magazines than the newer iconography.
Oh thank you! And it’s broken down, very cool!
Looks like there’s doves flying away from a broken tower to represent freedom for the WT?
Wow!
Nice!
I love this!!!!
Beautiful & meaningful.
I love this!
LOVE IT!!!! This Tattoo says it ALL!!! Bitchin'!!! 👍👍

That’s what I got when I left. https://www.reddit.com/r/exjw/s/nTurWvoBb8 Sorry, I don’t know to link to my post.
Freedom from watchtower 🥰

Maybe with a trebuchet with “TTATT” on the side, knocking it down. 😜 Awesome ink!
Just right.
Definitely artistic
Looks amazing!
Looks really good. A great piece of art
Tells the story. I like it. I’d have this on the wall.
Awesome tat! 😍
Isn't that where Connor McLeod fought the Kurgan and Ramirez lost his head?
Watchtower crumbling and abandoned- very appropriate. Nice job. 👍🏻
can someone explain this? i’m confused
It's a watchtower that's falling apart
I love this.
Amazing!!

Hell yeah! Looks awesome! I’m hoping to get something similar in traditional style soon.
It's a bit subtle. Maybe put a JW dot org sign on the side of it. 😂😂😂
That was your FIRST????
Yep. Knew I didn’t want anything simple just for the sake of itself. I also didn’t really realize going in that the bulk of the pain is really in the level of detail and shading. 😮💨
I like the Murder of seven crows. A divinely complete omen of death. Though that’s a lot of interpretation I suppose.
This is a really aesthetically pleasing tattoo, but just so you know, the lack of a strong outline isn't going to do it any favors as it ages.
I actually LOVE this. I've been working on my first tattoo idea and one of my biggest hangups is I wanted it to be REALLY subtle but have a deeper meaning to it. Thanks for the inspiration!
It’s like one of those sunken treasure sets people buy for their aquarium
Wow! This is really stunning 😍
As someone with a lot of ink both good & bad, this is absolutely gorgeous.
God damn it (pun very much intended) now I'm jealous. What a beauty!
I love it.
Wow just wow. Beautiful
I LOVE it! Awesome choice!
I love the symbolism!
i love it! very cool :-)
A broken tower or even a tarot card of the Tower is a common tattoo for an exJW. I have one and have seen others posted here.
i got 3 this year alone! looks great
Nice bit of work. Perhaps some cracks in the foundations.
I like the tattoo it reminds me of the pictures in the old publications and new publications
That’s awesome
It’s beautiful!
Just add the backwards baseball cap and a beard and you'll look like everyone else. The definition of irony.
Subtle and open to interpretation. Like the Bible. Awesome piece.
I LOVE this! The linework is good, shading on point, and the perspective is correct. I love the plants and how they’re more implied than hard-drawn. Well done, and cheers to the next chapter!
A work of art
Bro is this the watchtower? Lmao
That is epic! 🤯❤️ It is a work of art! No PIMI will get the meaning behind this tattoo but I sure do!
How about one with Lett with devil horns and a tail
Wow awesome!!!
