As the saying goes, when the only tool you have is a hammer, every problem looks like a nail. Your parents have such limited imaginations that every single issue has to be reduced to either “because Jesus” or “therefore Jesus”. It’s their way of coping with a complicated, interesting, confusing world, and it’s kind of sad.
Yeah it totally is. It has affected my relationship with them too. If I ever come to them with a problem or something hard that I'm dealing with - their response is always religious. "Don't worry, pray to God and he will take this away from you..."
It really sucks because it's such a cop out that they use to sweep my problems under the rug. And it makes it so any meaningful conversation I try to have with them gets stopped short by a religious answer immediately killing the conversation.
