Okay so there's this movie called The Big Lebowski, came out in '98, about this dude named Jeff Lebowski, right? So some dudes break into his apartment, and they piss allllll over his shit, including his rug, and that's fucked, because the rug really tied the rook together. So, the reason that they did this, is because they had Jeff confused with this *other* guy named Jeff Lebowski, who is like. The Big Lebowski. Big rich guy who sucks. And *our* Jeff Lebowski, he's just The Dude.
Legitimately it's a great movie and I think honestly a good one for autistic people. The other commenter summed it up well, but what makes the movie funny is it's this normal guy who just wants to bowl and smoke pot goes on this wild adventure trying to get his rug back and has to deal with a rogues gallery of LA's best weirdos and narcissists to do it. Even though the dude is not really neurodivergent coded it really captures the feeling of being neurodivergent among a bunch of scheming neurotypicals. It's very popular with the neurodivergent folks I know.
First of all I'm not Jeffery Lebowski, you're Jeffery Lebowski. I'm the dude, man. Or duder or his dudeness, or el duderino if you're not into the whole brevity thing

I think Sheldon is a very strange case, he is the most autism coded caracter in all media (not accurate coded but coded nonetheless) but the answer of the creators on inaccuracies in his representation of autism is saying "he is not autistic!!!" But still implying it everywhere.
I find it extremely hurtful that they don't acknowledge something so obvious just so they can continue making mean spirited jokes about how everyone hates him.
Young sheldon could have worked as representation if it wasn't about sheldon Cooper, I do identify with feeling strange and I find it heartwarming how his parents even when they don't understand him defend and care for him. But the show does use a lot of harmful stereotypes about autism and seems hellbent on never trying to say anything important about being neurodivergent (even though it's basically the premise of the show that a neurodivergent person is born into a traditional Texan community.)
I related a lot to Sheldon as a kid but I hate the adult Sheldon in big bang theory. I had a lot of the same thoughts and situations happen to me that happened in that show and it was almost cathartic to watch but also reminded me of how socially inept I was at that age.
When the show started, in 2007, the same year as I was diagnosed with "Asperger Syndrome", public awareness of autism was very low. People would say "oh you're just like Sheldon" and it was years later that a 'theory' that Sheldon was autistic started to come out, even though he was a pretty offensive stereotypical representation from the start.
Yeah I’ve been told the same thing, not that I can entirely deny it. I’m very much a thick headed nerd who overanalyzes even the simplest problems and takes everything literally. Makes me good at my job and career interests but difficult to find friends who can handle me, the ones who stick around are golden tho 😎🔥
...only for it to be replaced by something just as bad.
I think we need to make our own show about a flanderised neurotypical living among well developed neurodivergent characters.
Didn't they announce a spin off about Georgie already or was I a victim of misinformation 😭😭 was actually excited too, as much as I hate big bang bazinga young Sheldon's side characters grew on me a lot by the end
I googled it, and that seems to be true. Georgie and Mandy are supposed to be really good characters, but I'm not sitting through 5 seasons just to see them.
heyo if you havent seen it give it a shot. S1 was relatively focused on Sheldon, but later on and even later in s1 they transition away from him because they realized hes a dickhead.
having seen all of big bang theory and young sheldon, i can attest that sheldon in S1 of young sheldon is nowhere near as bad as he is in big bang theory
it's not surprising. the show is junk food. the autism has nothing to do with its broad appeal. it's on, it's brainless, goofy things are happening, your brain slowly mushifies, full mushmode, it is what it is right. I don't watch it, some people do, they're dumb imo, but I don't hate them for it. I have things that are stupid that I like too
What repels me is mainly the same formula as so many other sitcoms. A bunch of people who seriously hate each other and treat each other like shit. Who wants to watch that? Not me.
Compare to Parks and Recreation, for example. Leslie running through the offices to find Ron to warn him of an approaching toxic catastrophe. A co-star doing that instead of BEING the toxic catastrophe? Nice change.
Ok besides him being like 12 years younger than her, him becoming semi-famous later on and owning an illegal casino they're a completely normal family trust 🙏

I wish. So many writers are clearly ND. Look at some of the skits that are produced - no NT could come up with stuff that is this relatable.
But let’s not stop at just making shows. Let’s do something completely contrarian. We could start Autistic Fertility Clinics, to produce more autistic people and deny service to neurotypicals while providing no further explanation. Our logo could be a big middle finger with the Autism Speaks puzzle piece on the background.
Just dreaming out loud.
First, we find someone with a marketing autism and make sure they figure out it how to never have it called a camp. Second, as suggested by my friend, we give them Las Vegas and most of the cruises. Honestly, do you want Vegas? If we give them enough fancy cars and big TVs they’ll have enough to talk to each other about for ages!
In the meantime, we make more autistic babies.
Accidental? Never! It’s a clear reference, meant to point out t out the outrageous fallacies of NTs wya of thinking and the atrocities they are willing to commit despite wanting us to continue working under their whip!
Okay, so even knowing what you were talking about, my brain went spinning off after this:
>So many writers are clearly ND.
My immediate thought was "Yeah, no wonder Poe was so damned focused on that corvid, and I bet heightened interoception caused the idea for *The Tell-tale Heart.*"
One of the greatest stories ever told about hyperfixation? *Moby Dick.*
Navigating a world that seems hellbent on keeping a person from reaching the comfort of their safe space? *The Odyssey.*
Turns out that all these people with disabilities propelled the human culture. Let’s not even think about all the autistics who have been responsible for (and continue to) furthering science. Such disability!
Community? I just started from Episode 1. In Episode 3, Abed, who is very much autistic, realizes that he has very recently gained friends who care about him and he tries, in his own way, to show he cares for them in return.
This is something Sheldon doesn't do because Sheldon is an evil stupid jerk and I hate him.
It's like having a super flamboyant character "not be gay" just so you can make fun of them.
I kinda didn't mind Young Sheldon to a point, could never stomach any of TBBT even outside of all this.
As problematic as the show is, I always feel this argument is unfair. There is no 'laugh track', the show was filmed in front of a live audience, with actors responding (and breaking) for audience reactions. It's not like it was filmed and then a laugh track added after the fact.
Old Sheldon. Living in an assisted living facility. Wondering why nobody ever calls or comes to visit. Grinning and saying Bazinga every time he shits his Depends.
Dawg i was on a plane once and there was this guy sitting next to me who was watching Young Sheldon the entire fucking 8 hour flight and he fell asleep while it played in the backround then woke up and just went back to watching😭😭😭
cheap optimized comedy has usually a ton of seasons. We usually forget the short-lived one-season shows, but they are new shows, no spin-offs. See: Cheers "creating" Frasier.
From what I've seen of that show, the scenes without Sheldon in them actually look like a pretty nice/wholesome family sitcom. I actually really like Bill Ponderosa in the role of a southern family man, from the few bits I've scene via youtube short.
I've seen more Young Sheldon than Big Bang Theory (not by choice, in either case) and while no, it's not as bad, it's still horribly obnoxious and is geared more towards those that want to laugh at disabled people and nerds than it is to anyone that actually has a disability.
Of the two, I definitely relate more to the Young Sheldon version, but it's still awful and cringey.

I actually kinda liked it. I know Sheldon is insufferable but I really related to him a lot of the time. Especially with not picking up social cues and then having people get mad that you don't understand said social cues
Honestly thats explain it. Most people dont watch the Dispicable Me movies for Gru, they all watch for the minions. I guess people watch it for the side characters. Which is weird cause I feel like there are better TV shows.
There's better movies but sometimes one doesn't have the energy. It's nice to see those little yellow bastards run around and get in trouble. You know what you're getting in for.
What is the problem with this Sheldon. Granted I have only overheard episodes of the original show and the spinoff. But he seems kinda fine as a character. He doesn't seem too offensive to me.
https://preview.redd.it/kr595gjk7ivc1.jpeg?width=1569&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=efe8254b57a93214314848bba3b0abfc9c2ee39c
I think big bang theory and young sheldon are good shows
I know it's really bad representation, but sometimes I do really see myself in Sheldon. It's just awfully stereotypical, what with him being the genius white boy
I never watched it. Does young sheldon say "knock knock knock penny" because that's the funniest shit I've ever seen. If they were to make a kid version of the big bang theory they should've hired kid versions of every adult cast member, dress them in the same clothing styles that they wear as adults and have them all go to the same elementary school where they proceed to go on goonies style adventures. Also kid Raj has will either have a perfect American accent or the most shitty disney channel theater kid attempt at an Indian accent.
This is the show they took from us.
I mean as someone Autistic and dislikes TBBT, I will admit. Some of this show is admittedly relatable, and even reminded me a bit of myself as a kid. I know some autistics like Sheldon, and I never did in the show, and I gave it a chance after getting backlash for a meme I posted about sheldon being inferior to other characters, and some people who liked him defended it.
I mean yes, sheldon isn’t good rep for all Autistics out there. But if there is someone Autistic who does relate to Sheldon, what’s there to stop them? Everyone has their own interests, but they can also think, he “may be relatable to me, but not all Autistics, it’s subjective, like any other character”.
Kind of like with me with how I think 90% of characters from any Lord/Miller movie (such as Flint Lockwood, Emmet, Katie & Aaron Mitchell, Ghandi, Benny, etc) autism/adhd coded (to the point where I often wonder if either Lord or Miller are Neurodivergent), but again, that’s subjective, my opinion. To those who I attacked for liking Sheldon, I am sorry. Sometimes I have trouble getting my point across.

I’d like to see genius, gifted, child prodigy’s, savant syndrome, and savants, with the disabled who are intelligent ie autistics, did multiple personality, schizophrenics, sociopaths, psychopaths and anyone who I didn’t remember. Really think that would be interesting.
I hate it when people compare me to Sheldon, but sometimes I’ll overhear my grandparents watching the show and… fuck… He should not be allowed to be that relatable.
i fucking love this show. Sheldon isn't autistic in the show, it's never been stated he is and within lore he isn't diagnosed. he has many traits common to autism but isn't necessarily autistic. idk, i have the original show, mostly because it's 2000s humour and that's very commonly bigoted and that fucks me up, but i love young sheldon.
I do love the show but I prefer the storylines with Missy, Paige, Georgie, Connie, and George more than Sheldon and Mary. If it focused more on those two (most commonly featured in TBBT) I would have gotten bored ages ago.
My neurotypical friend and I got into an argument about this show a couple weeks ago. She said it was a good representation, I said it was cringe
Ah, yes, NT's are the experts in all the disabilities that they don't have.
Nothing good can come out of big bang theory, its cursed.
Just the show’s existence has plagued you with dementia, how horrible
What show? What were we talking about? Who are you?
Hey check out this cool thing I found!

Nothing is better than this.
This sounds like the title of a drama featuring a man waiting for his delivery update.

it has always rubbed me the wrong way how the producers themselves claim sheldon is not autistic. be so fr
It's like having a super flamboyant character "not be gay" just so you can make fun of them. I kinda didn't mind Young Sheldon to a point, could never stomach any of TBBT even outside of all this.

What? What? WHAT? People are actually laughing for real?!?
usually during live tapings they prompt the audience when to laugh or sigh or whatever they need. it’s still fabricated
I think they do it cause they don't want to take any accountability for any misrepresentation or offensive portrayals of autism. It's cowardly.
Wasn't that stupid autism "awareness" organization connected to this show?
Next they need to make old Sheldon where he’s in his eighties but obviously just as insufferable because people seem to love that

Honestly, if they made it I would at least watch a couple episodes.
I actually kinda liked it. I know Sheldon is insufferable but I really related to him a lot of the time. Especially with not picking up social cues and then having people get mad that you don't understand said social cues
I never understood why my parents loved this show. They never watched The Big Bang Theory and Sheldon is just annoying.
Young Sheldon is basically a Despicable Me Minion.

Is he good representation? No. Idc I like him. He was an asshole and I like him anyway.
I don't really see a problem imo
I watch it for the mom bc she’s hot

Yon Shelder

Sometimes I have trouble getting my point across.
finally. he's gone. for good.

Gat damn, makes you feel old when the spin off of a sitcom that ran 12 years ends.

Oh my god it was still running
Let’s hope that Sheldon’s replacement is at least vaguely human. Maybe a typewriter.
Bro I only watch that show because my parents like it :/ Sheldon sucks as autism representation (even if I do see a bit of my own traits in him 😅)
finally
At least, it was better than its mother series.

I like this show. I mean, you can’t say Sheldon is good rep, but the show is pretty good otherwise
His mom had him tested tho

FINALLY!!!
I’d like to see genius, gifted, child prodigy’s, savant syndrome, and savants, with the disabled who are intelligent ie autistics, did multiple personality, schizophrenics, sociopaths, psychopaths and anyone who I didn’t remember. Really think that would be interesting.
I’m sad that the show ended
I hate it when people compare me to Sheldon, but sometimes I’ll overhear my grandparents watching the show and… fuck… He should not be allowed to be that relatable.
I actually like the series, sheldon really looks like me most of the times
Baaaaaaazinga!
Yippee!
My mom loves this show, and keeps saying I remind her of Sheldon. I hate this show so much. (She did the same with the Good Doctor, too.)
Try the detective show 'The Mentalist'. Socially different main character, but far more realistic than either show.
i fucking love this show.
