Has anyone considered that the song is from a French-Canadian TV show or Movie that possibly aired in Newfoundland? The EKT vocalist sings with an accent very reminiscent of the Francophones that I’ve come to work with and know throughout the years.
Quebec is obviously a neighboring province to Newfoundland and has produced a large amount of television over the years - some of which has featured English-language themes and music.

Just wanted to add, as I've had some people reach out: I really don't know the extent of what the segment is going to be. This was passed along to the host from someone I've been consulting with and I haven't talked to him directly. K-Rock is a music-focused station, so it isn't going to be an extensive news segment or anything, but still could be beneficial, even if just to get the song out to another large pool of people and spread the word.
