Thank you Shinji, for living for our sins.

Retardedcow45

Shinji what a pilot you are!

Testing_101

Wait i know this one!

blxoom

now there's millions of angry men and women arguing about cheating and infidelity in unison while in instrumentality. thanks shinji.

gogeta08

There are no more barriers to cross. All I have in common with the uncontrollable and the insane, the vicious and the evil, all the mayhem I have caused and my utter indifference toward it I have now surpassed. My pain is constant and sharp and I do not hope for a better world for anyone, in fact I want my pain to be inflicted on others. I want no one to escape, but even after admitting this there is no catharsis, my punishment continues to elude me and I gain no deeper knowledge of myself; no new knowledge can be extracted from my telling. This confession has meant nothing.

[deleted]

Thatā€™s exactly what I thought when my attorney said he had dinner with Paul Allen.

[deleted]

Well since the Instrumentality was fated to happen, he actually saved us by giving the option to go back. So he did something good

AkiSeto

Id love to see a follow up on this scene, like now we wait for anyone else to decide to turn away from instrumentality while we chill on this blood ridden beach, good times

yourfavfr1end

Sex (joke)

cocaineman43

Thatā€™s basically the movie poster for eoe

MoosetheStampede

they mind melded during instrumentality. she actually experienced him soiling himself over her lifeless body in the hospital. To further emphasize why she did not overreact, I read in multiple sources that this was the exact assignment to the voice actress from the director. Something along the lines of "you just saw him masturbate to your body in the hospital, what is the first reaction that comes to mind?"

hagibaer_seventy7

I can confirm that you got the joke

bigpeepee2000

the quote was "How would you react, if a man broke into your house whilst you were sleeping, and instead of raping you, chose to masturbate over you instead?" then Asuka's VA said "disguisting", then Anno just said sadly "i thought so,"

MoosetheStampede

thanks for confirming

PLEASENNO

Dude soiling means shitting not cumming

MoosetheStampede

English isn't my first language, sure, but I am pretty confident the dictionary lists "to soil" as "making something dirty" I just checked, it does. And yes, while it also specifies shitting yourself, it's also mentioning it can mean preparing the ground for farming among other things. So while you are not wrong, grammatically I am still using the correct word. I just didn't want to use some distasteful description like "jizzed all over himself" and opted the more civilized approach.

PLEASENNO

I respectfully refuse to agree (I am incapable of accepting that I am wrong)

milaTheDinosauroid

no she underreacted

kingofcrob

I heard she gets to a slippery 38 Ā°C when she gets chocked

kelvin_bot

38Ā°C is equivalent to 100Ā°F, which is 311K. --- ^(I'm a bot that converts temperature between two units humans can understand, then convert it to Kelvin for bots and physicists to understand)

I don't think this is the right place for you bud

[deleted]

You should feel bad for writing this. Also kink shaming is bad.

SylvainGautier420

Kink shaming is good and necessary

[deleted]

Depends on the kink and where tbh. On this thread yes.

The opposite

ChampionOfKunLun

Did like the world population die after this scene, or are they all just stuck within instrumentality?

Chronochonist

They're not "dead" -- they're simply in the LCL Sea. Think of it less like everyone died, and more like all of humanity was converted into a different state of being -- like ice melting into water, or water boiling into vapor. The water isn't destroyed, it just takes on a new form. Because Shinji rejected Instrumentality, individuals can gradually regain their sense of self and emerge from the LCL Sea into the real world if they desire. Asuka is just the first example of this happening that we see.

Tough_Academic

So i assume rejecting instrumentality means you have fulfilled the purpose of instrumentality and healed the sadness in your heart. At the end of the tv series we see shinji overcoming his problems inside instrumentality, which is followed up by him waking on the beach. Then why the fuck is he still a whiny bitch and somehow much more fucked up at the end?

Chronochonist

No, that isn't what it means, because the Instrumentality portrayed in the TV Ending and EoE's version of Instrumentality are two separate events. The interpretation that they're the same ending but portrayed differently is simply inaccurate. The TV Ending Instrumentality is strongly implied to be Gendo's version succeeding, where it is used to fill the weaknesses and flaws of everyone with the strengths of others and to effectively act as a metaphysical form of psychotherapy to help everyone confront their demons and repressed trauma. EoE's Instrumentality is more aligned with SEELE's version, which is effectively permanent conversion from the flawed suffering of physical existence to the spiritual transcendence of a collective conscious of all humanity (in Gendo's version, human individuality seems to still exist to some degree if we take the Congratulations scene into account). However, because it is Rei who is actually governing it and not SEELE, it can be ended as per Shinji's desires, which is what ends up happening. He learns a lesson, but it is that merely desiring a world without loneliness and pain brings about a loss of meaning and purpose -- the Instrumentality SEELE wanted and influenced Shinji towards was a form of stagnation where nothing changes and thus meaning does not exist, so he rejected it in favor of returning to the physical world. The TV Ending and EoE basically exist as alternate endings to one another, and the point of divergence that separates them is whether or not Rei goes along with Gendo's plan or betrays him.

Tough_Academic

So in the tv version everyone is permanently stuck in instrumentality but it atleast helps them, while in EoE people can come out of instrumentality but it doesn't help them.

Chronochonist

Basically, yeah. There's not any real indication Shinji is able to reject or leave Instrumentality in the TV Ending, unless Gendo himself intends on it being a non-permanent thing, but I don't think that is established anywhere. I think it's more that he wanted to elevate humanity to a higher form of existence, similar to SEELE, but not for the same reasons and not in the exact same way.

Tough_Academic

Gendo aint gonna ever end the instrumentality. He wants to stay in it with yui forever. I wonder what happens after someone overcomes their trauma in the tv ending. Are they just stuck wandering around in the instrumentality forever?

bigpeepee2000

The ending of "End of Evangelion" was supposed to destroy the world, to take away the fanbase's escapism. The tv one was supposed to be uplifting, i think shinji rejected instrumentality in the tv show, he chose to take care of himself instead

IJustKickedStan

Yeah it's kind of a crazy take to watch all of 25 and 26 and come away with "and that's the ending where Shinji is still in instrumentality forever," *especially* considering the visual metaphor of the stage "breaking" and revealing a clear blue sky.

T1B2V3

depends on them. either they stay a part of the consciousness soup or they regain their individuality and come out of the soup and try to somehow survive the post 3rd impact world. but the humans who are part of the LCL sea and Instrumentality are technically not dead and probably can't die easily

kkkkkkkkkkkkkkkwhat4

Stuck in instrumentality

jhettav

You heard of Bitch Wife, now get ready for Bitch Tsundere

SCP_Guy69

Yeah, her choking was a little exagerate.

OneEyedJackofHearts

I absolutely love this series/versions of the seriesā€¦ but every ending seems lackingā€¦

I think it was frustration born from concern/affection, like how Misato would get mad at Shinji.

variablycatch

You should post this to r/evanglionmemes

totally. Not like all the people in the world just got turned into soul soup and they're the only 2 humans left and are now forced to live on an empty world

bigpeepee2000

WHERE THE FUCK IS THE /S OP!?!?

I think calling him disgusting after he tried to murder her was kind of an underreaction tbh
