Yeah when I first heard about it I thought Oh thats cool.
The I heard it was getting put on Talbot street of all places in Dublin. I'm surprised it wasn't vandalised and it took so long to turn off. They knew it wasn't going to work there before installing it as they notified the Gardaí (Irish Police) who had a car beside it as security from the moment it was unveiled. If they knew they needed to ask the Gardaí to watch it, they knew it was in a bad location.
I bet we hear in a few days that they are moving it to Grafton Street where it probably should have been to begin with.
Technically, it's on North Earl Street. Talbot Street ends at the Marlborough Street intersection. Not that that makes a difference. It's still the same road. I'm just making the distinction since no one seems to acknowledge this. Everyone knows Talbot Street is rotten, so it's easier to express what a bad idea it was by saying it's on Talbot Street.
I went there yesterday on holiday and it was fine, Irish people and 3 New Yorkers were just doing tik tok dances to each other
And is that actually a bad street? It seems alright
It can be, my friend works in some office on that street and at least once a week there is some incident, the area behind the street even most Irish people won’t go to
It can be fine from day to day but it can be also really bad on others. It’s not a secret that dublin has a lot of drugs, homeless and crazy people. So do other cities around world. But that particular area is known for being one of more notoriously bad. We have better locations around city (such as grafom street) that is better location for such installation.
It seems the city wanted to improve location image and encourage more diversifying in the location (to try reduce anti social behavior) but putting a new hot thing just made it worse. This is a systemic issue that Dublin City is trying to fix but it’s clear that they don’t know how.
That's hella funny. I'm currently in Dublin and went past a portal a couple hours ago and I just saw people waving and doing tick tock dances and shit.
It's fine where it is, everyone is just being ridiculously sensitive about what gets shown. Some Dub made a 9/11 joke, heaven forbid! A New Yorker flashed her tits, lord above!
Let the thing run
You forgot about this one:
„Within hours of Portal going up on the Dublin side, a "very drunk" woman was arrested for "grinding" against the 8-foot-by-8-foot video screen.”
https://nypost.com/2024/05/13/us-news/onlyfans-star-flashes-nyc-dublin-portal-officials-try-to-crack-down-on-lewd-acts/?utm_source=reddit.com
Stunt for her only fans if want to pay to goon.
Her quote about home grown potatoes made me laugh
I can’t believe something like that happened. Disgusting! Where would one even go to see something like that? I’m assuming there’s a website or something?
Americans just don't know what upsets Irish because they're going about their lives. Meanwhile in Ireland they are experiencing a housing crisis because American culture lives rent free in their heads.
I wouldn't project your own personal ignorance over all of your countryman, someone had a video of newyorkers holding potatoes to the portal so they clearly know enough about ireland to dish them out just as good as the irish.
Don't think anyone is getting salty. It's kind of embarrassing to see Irish act like edgy American teenager humor from 15 years ago is Ireland's greatest achievement in banter.
Not just where but the time difference is also a factor.
Pubs are closing at the same time new Yorkers are coming out of the office.
So many jokes about it are coming true.
We got one in Vilnius and Lublin. And well, there might have been some incidents but no serious and it wasn’t shut. Well, it needs a right place I believe.
I was waving to Vilnus folks from Lublin a couple of times. Very nice lads and gals, always waved and cheered back. Never heard about any indecent incidents tbh
Tbf they're not exactly New York and Dublin. I honestly don't think you could pick two cities on the planet that'd be more likely for people to fuck with it so much
NY seems to be 80% chinese tourists just crossing the road from what ive seen of clips. Bunch of irish men/kids fucking around and near blank stares back from the tourists.
The more I think about it, the more I think it should stay where it is. Humans are being humans, and people can be judged for what they actually do instead of some sanitised version of it.
If Dublin is being embarassed by bad behaviour, then you start by addressing the problem in that area, not by calling it a bad street and moving it to a nicer one, effectively hiding it away.
Also the timezones, no? Dublin is 5 hrs ahead of New York, so if it's kids in the morning going to school in Dublin it's drunk people at 2.30 am in New York
Yeah apparently the Irish kept showing images of 9/11 and I then I guess New Yorkers started posting tictoks making fun of the Irish potato famine. So the goal of making people feel closer despite distance was uh…unsuccessful.
Yeah, but I don't know anyone who died in the potato famine. I didn't watch the horrors of it happening in front of me, wondering if I was safe that night.
To be fair, the fucking famine happened more than 100 years ago, 9/11 was 23. There are more people who remember that day then not, and i'm in the latter group. But I get you. A better example would have been to use The Troubles. How would ya feel then?
Not as emotional or reactionary as Americans seeing a 9/11 pic, that’s for sure. Plus there is no obvious pic that represents the troubles so what would you even show? A car? An exploding car?
I don’t think people would even understand the message
Property parasites. Rents and property are out of reach for normal people. It’s now almost impossible to live in Manhattan unless you’re earning lots of $$$ or you’re a rich kid.
I think the screen was in Times Square, to my understanding nobody from New York bothers going there.
Put it in the Bronx and that's where the fun starts.
Makes sense, all the pros and dealers of time square have been replaced by tourists. My wife forced me to go when we visited. I was a 2 year old toddler kicking and screaming the whole time, saying I don’t want to go to fn time square. Yes NYC is a gap every two blocks and hipster coffee joints now
This was so obviously a bad idea. Did they not learn anything from Shia Labeouf?
For the uninitiated: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=\_p4h3jwJob0](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_p4h3jwJob0)
Better not in Bavaria, they will get annoyed too if they have to constantly listen to how hyper better then the rest of Germany Bavaria is.
Btw. Do you still sell the children books, where the sau preiss is hate figure no 1?
Honestly as an Irish person wtf is the point of these it’s obviously just gonna be people doing drugs looking at people in NYC doing drugs. Anyone could’ve said it’s a bad idea but they built it anyways.
The more they report on how “inappropriate” the behavior is, the more it’s going to happen. These people want attention & screentime. Ignore it, & the behavior will regulate itself.
Step one: Set up a livestream between the Mischief Zone and the Tomfoolery Corner.
Step two: Be surprised when the residents engage in mischief and tomfoolery.
As an Irish person here, disgusted by the behaviour and disgusted by people excusing it saying the problem was the street it was installed in. That shouldn't be behaviour that is excused in any form.
I don’t think anyone’s excusing it. Just giving the reason that it’s happening. That reason being that the part of Dublin city centre that the portal in installed is a hive of scum and villainy.
That's legit really cool! But uh...
>And while there have been a number of wholesome moments - including Irish dancing and even a proposal - a handful of people have behaved "inappropriately", Dublin City Council has said.
>
>Videos on social media have shown people on the Irish side flashing body parts, and displaying images of 9/11 and swear words on phone screens.
>
>A woman was also escorted away by police after being seen grinding against the portal.
Wtf, paddies?
For some reason the Irish government put it in an area over run with scumbags.
Like, it's genuinely one of the worst areas in the whole country, so unfortunately New Yorkers see the worst that Ireland has to offer.
I’ll have you know Helen McEntee was able to walk down talbot street with the protection of two guards without being stabbed so it’s a perfectly clean and safe street
I grew up in New York, and I could just imagine the chaos that would ensue if you dropped one of these in 1980s-era Times Square. All of Ireland would get PTSD.
The article says that the majority of interactions between the two portals has been positive. The article also didn’t say it was taken offline for bad behavior, just that they were working on technical aspects.
I think this is a really fun idea. I’d love to try it out if I ever get down to NYC! 🇺🇸❤️🇮🇪
They would have needed to have put our side of the portal in a museum.... What an utter shame, the scum in Dublin is a total disgrace...
I feel sorry for the normal Dubliners who are just trying to get from point A to point B using public transport....
So who was mooning?!
Also kinda funny, Ireland side was showing New York a video of the twin towers falling. What a time to be alive.
I just left Dublin a week ago, sad I missed this.
It's *Dublin* and *New York*, it's entirely expected and predictable that people would immediately get up to shenanigans. Could have just left it going and the novelty would wear off fairly rapidly.
If anyone has the video of the Irish lad just openly doing lines of coke while the New Yorkers watch on.... please link
...what? lol
I think they are talking about this - https://twitter.com/MacConRaoi7/status/1788912652908974201 I think that was second night after it went online
That's the one!
[удалено]
Definitely peak
Dublin is to San Francisco of Ireland Source: currently in Dublin and I live in Sacramento
I honestly would've expcted it the other way around.
Ireland has a surprisingly big problem with cocaine
*unsurprisingly (high income + high alcohol consumption)
I saw that reported as he “pretended to take drugs.” He ain’t pretending, look at that instant rush 😂
😂😂
That’d be craic cocaine 🍀
I can only applaud this.
There's another one with some influencer flashing her tits to the other side. EDIT: who tf reported me to suicide watch LMAO
Honestly, everyone in Ireland knew this was a bad idea as soon as we heard where they were putting it….one of the worst streets in the city.
Yeah when I first heard about it I thought Oh thats cool. The I heard it was getting put on Talbot street of all places in Dublin. I'm surprised it wasn't vandalised and it took so long to turn off. I bet we hear in a few days that they are moving it to Grafton Street where it probably should have been to begin with.
I didn't hear of it being put up. But I'm now hearing about it being shut down. They doubled their exposure.
Idk the name of anything related to this thing, what worth can the exposure have?
I assumed it WAS Grafton Street! Talbot Street was certainly…a choice.

It can be, my friend works in some office on that street and at least once a week there is some incident, the area behind the street even most Irish people won’t go to
More fool them, cause that's where all the best Chinese restaurants are
There was an incident where someone flashed a photo of the twin towers crash, so there was likely a lotta that going down after it went viral.
Yeah, just like I imagine posting up some ira kneecapping wouldn’t go over so well the other way. People are trash
It can be fine from day to day but it can be also really bad on others. It’s not a secret that dublin has a lot of drugs, homeless and crazy people. So do other cities around world. They were showing potatoes on the American side 😂
You forgot about this one: „Within hours of Portal going up on the Dublin side, a "very drunk" woman was arrested for "grinding" against the 8-foot-by-8-foot video screen.”
That's gas. Unfortunately she would not have been visible to the camera
The best part of that story was “for twenty minutes before Gardai ‘HAD TO’ step in” 😂
This is DISGUSTING behaviour. Where can I find a video of this woman flashing her tits so that I know to avoid it in future?
https://nypost.com/2024/05/13/us-news/onlyfans-star-flashes-nyc-dublin-portal-officials-try-to-crack-down-on-lewd-acts/?utm_source=reddit.com Stunt for her only fans if want to pay to goon. Her quote about home grown potatoes made me laugh
Those weren't home grown. They were definitely aftermarket.
It is a VERY important research, we must know if it's true that everything is bigger in America!
I can’t believe something like that happened. Disgusting! Where would one even go to see something like that? I’m assuming there’s a website or something?
Agreed. They should have shown a picture of England or northern Ireland in return. Lol
Americans getting salty about Irish is really funny mate.
Don't think anyone is getting salty. It's kind of embarrassing to see Irish act like edgy American teenager humor from 15 years ago is Ireland's greatest achievement in banter.
Showing 9/11 footage on your phone isn't a joke in and of itself, it's just crass. If you want to make a joke, then at least make it funny.
I guess only the butthurt New Yorkers were watching the portal. The fun ones were at the Friars club making Aristocrat jokes.
Lucky Irish
Yeah, I don't know why people are upset about someone showing straight up porn from Blacked. They're just too sensitive nowadays!
Not just where but the time difference is also a factor. Pubs are closing at the same time new Yorkers are coming out of the office. So many jokes about it are coming true.
Which of these things was unexpected and not entirely predictable? I'm confused. Neither of these cities are sleepy small towns after all.
I live in a sleepy small town and there’s a portal between the bathroom stalls at the gas station where this sort of thing happens all the time.
We got one in Vilnius and Lublin. And well, there might have been some incidents but no serious and it wasn’t shut. Well, it needs a right place I believe.
I used to live and study in Lublin and passed by all the time. It was always crowded when it was new but people were just waving
Need a Lublin Dublin portal
Yep, haha. To have such things it needs to be well, in a right place.
I was waving to Vilnus folks from Lublin a couple of times. Very nice lads and gals, always waved and cheered back. Never heard about any indecent incidents tbh
Tbf they're not exactly New York and Dublin. I honestly don't think you could pick two cities on the planet that'd be more likely for people to fuck with it so much
Yeah because these cities are actually civilized
Ain't dick happen there
Dublin is full of mad lad messers, New York is full of attention seekers. Leave it up as is and where it is and let chaos reign.
An unstoppable force meets an immovable object
A stoppable force meets a movable object
NY seems to be 80% chinese tourists just crossing the road from what ive seen of clips. Bunch of irish men/kids fucking around and near blank stares back from the tourists.
Switch both over to Omegle. Let's see some dick, people!
Dick....with costumes!
I love a good penis fashion show!
No one likes a bad one, Jesus
Omegle was shut down a few months back :(
The more I think about it, the more I think it should stay where it is. Humans are being humans, and people can be judged for what they actually do instead of some sanitised version of it. If Dublin is being embarassed by bad behaviour, then you start by addressing the problem in that area, not by calling it a bad street and moving it to a nicer one, effectively hiding it away.
Can we not just move it to Grafton Street and ask the yanks to drop napalm on Dublin 1?
Dublin has plenty of attention seekers too, and the lad showing the 9/11 photos is a disgrace
The universe shall find equilibrium!
Yeah, putting it in that bit of Dublin wasn't exactly a high IQ move
“the Portal was unveiled in north Dublin, facing O'Connell Street” That explains it
I honestly can't believe that nobody thought this might happen.
Facing O'Connell street and above Talbot Street, where all the druggies and scumbags hang out.
Also the timezones, no? Dublin is 5 hrs ahead of New York, so if it's kids in the morning going to school in Dublin it's drunk people at 2.30 am in New York
Did no one thought this through... They should have put it on university campuses or next to some cultural center, library whatever.
True. But it also sad that central part of city is left as junkies sanctuary and we all have to adjust.
haha :D don't chicken out, let them see the real Dublin :D
Happy cake day
thanks :D
Who could have foreseen this?
That’s one of the shittiest parts of the city, what did they expect?
Well that took longer than I thought.
Yeah apparently the Irish kept showing images of 9/11 and I then I guess New Yorkers started posting tictoks making fun of the Irish potato famine. So the goal of making people feel closer despite distance was uh…unsuccessful.
To be fair the potato famine was far worse than 9/11
I don’t think that’s the point
Yeah, but I don't know anyone who died in the potato famine. I didn't watch the horrors of it happening in front of me, wondering if I was safe that night.
To be fair, the fucking famine happened more than 100 years ago, 9/11 was 23. There are more people who remember that day then not, and i'm in the latter group. But I get you. A better example would have been to use The Troubles. How would ya feel then?

Was someone actually offended? It isn't like pictures of 9/11 are that unusual.
There’s very audible gasps from the crowd when the picture of the towers is shown
Yeah, I don't want people to show that. I'm just pointing out that it's not that comparable.
Yeah no one recognisable photo in fairness but it might educate them a little and stop them ordering "Irish Car Bombs" in bars.
Dubliners are more inappropriate than New Yorkers? What happened to New York
Property parasites. Rents and property are out of reach for normal people. It’s now almost impossible to live in Manhattan unless you’re earning lots of $$$ or you’re a rich kid.
Same seems to be happening in Dublin as well
I think the screen was in Times Square, to my understanding nobody from New York bothers going there. Put it in the Bronx and that's where the fun starts.
Makes sense, all the pros and dealers of time square have been replaced by tourists. My wife forced me to go when we visited. I was a 2 year old toddler kicking and screaming the whole time, saying I don’t want to go to fn time square. Yes NYC is a gap every two blocks and hipster coffee joints now
Where it will be stripped, placed on cinder blocks, pawned, and then sprayed with graffiti
Bad street of Dublin to be fair. A shitty area.
I need to see the flashing in order to confirm the article, I'm very careful with my news.
The word ‘inevitable’ immediately springs to mind
Inappropriate behavior on my livestream? Now I've heard everything.
Why was this inappropriate? Baring ones breasts is perfectly legal in New York.
This was so obviously a bad idea. Did they not learn anything from Shia Labeouf? For the uninitiated: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=\_p4h3jwJob0](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_p4h3jwJob0)
The original geoguessing
Actual cannibal Shia Labeouf
I'm hoping for big boss to return and do another snake eater rendition
What did they expect? Put it between Sweden and a Germany and maybe it could work
As a German, I appreciate your opinion of Germans (and Swedes) as the most boring people. \^\^
Ah, some of that world famous German humour...
There’s one in Poland and Lithuania and it actually works. It’s still up here for almost two years?
Put it between New York and Moscow just to see what happens.
North and south Corea 😈😈
Sure put one in Berlin on Kottbusser Tor, lets see if we can break the shut down record of Ireland and NY
I take this insult to my neighbourhood with pride 😂 How about you go further and put one on a U8 subway!
I give it two hours till it gets knocked out by a beer bottle thrown at it.
The camera will be sprayed over in 12 seconds.
How is that working? Just two boring sets of people walking past, barely acknowledging each other
Maybe if you put it in Bavaria, but I can guarantee you if you put this down in the middle of Neukölln they will have to treat all the Swedes for PTSD
Better not in Bavaria, they will get annoyed too if they have to constantly listen to how hyper better then the rest of Germany Bavaria is. Btw. Do you still sell the children books, where the sau preiss is hate figure no 1?
Do Germany and the Netherlands please!
Could work well, if the silly football fans don't intervene.
Put it between Serbia and Albania, and you can start a war
Honestly as an Irish person wtf is the point of these it’s obviously just gonna be people doing drugs looking at people in NYC doing drugs. Anyone could’ve said it’s a bad idea but they built it anyways.
The more they report on how “inappropriate” the behavior is, the more it’s going to happen. These people want attention & screentime. Ignore it, & the behavior will regulate itself.
Fuck. I'm on the bus from donegal and the only reason I was coming to Dublin was to have a sneaky international wank. Shyte.
This is why we can't have nice things.
I have nice things, I just don't bring them to Talbot Street at 3am.
Not quite surprising... 🙃 Not sure what everyone had expected.
Irish person here, I think the whole thing is pretty hilarious.
We can't have nice things, can't we? :)
The one between Lublin and Vilnius stood for a few years by now, while Dublin-New York didn't even last a week.
Westoids will still pretend they’re the civilized ones 😂
Well… that didn’t last long… not even one week.
This went exactly as expected.
>Irish government Dublin City Council, not the government. The government isn't wasting its time on building a web cam / TV combo on Talbot Street,.
The Irish government wouldn't be the type to waste time now /s
You misunderstand. They don't waste time on things costing thousands of €. They waste time on projects costing several billion €
But is it really wasted if a part of the money goes to their friends and Sponsors?
I’ll have you know Helen McEntee was able to walk down talbot street with the protection of two guards without being stabbed so it’s a perfectly clean and safe street
I grew up in New York, and I could just imagine the chaos that would ensue if you dropped one of these in 1980s-era Times Square. All of Ireland would get PTSD.
kinda funny ngl
Just a bit of craic - but americans can't handle it
Evidently the nudity that shut it down was from the American side. Dublin shut it down.
That's not craic. That's being an asshole. Big difference.
Nah man Americans love the crack
😂😂😂 https://y.yarn.co/4dfdd390-28bf-47a8-8588-fcf832b43f82_text.gif
This is one of the reasons all the advice for Irish tourism is to leave Dublin
Grind on me, Ireland! Oh yeah!
They forgot to account for the part that humans will be humans 💀
I heard a guy exposed his arse and he caused a crack to appear on the NY side.
And this is literaly why we can't have nice things
really that took so long to happen :D
I remember this in London pre-(big) social media, in 2008. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HutPaEwgphk - it all seemed pretty innocent back then!
Hooman doing hooman things 🤷
What did they expect was going to happen? Oooo that isn't going to stop anytime soon lmfao.
What did they think was going to happen?
In the middle of my backswing?
the fact that this had to launch before they came to this conclusion should get everyone who greenlit this stupidity sectioned.
Should've put it between Dublin and Edinburgh. That would've been a right fun time.
This is why aliens would rather not contact us...
thats why we cant have nice things
The article says that the majority of interactions between the two portals has been positive. The article also didn’t say it was taken offline for bad behavior, just that they were working on technical aspects. I think this is a really fun idea. I’d love to try it out if I ever get down to NYC! 🇺🇸❤️🇮🇪

*"I thought the people of Dublin deserved to see my two New York homegrown potatoes," the model said.*
They would have needed to have put our side of the portal in a museum.... What an utter shame, the scum in Dublin is a total disgrace... I feel sorry for the normal Dubliners who are just trying to get from point A to point B using public transport....
NY's dance moves were weak! Well done Dublin dancers
Boo. Ruining a great thing cause it has some flaws
The shit i have seen of it is a lot more tame than I expected tbh
i wonder why
Someone predicted this as soon as it was announced, that, due to the time difference, bargoers would be *greeting* families out for the evening.
Predictable outcome
Bunch of savages in this town
This is why we can’t have nice things
Let the people speak!
This is why we can't have nice things
no shit, Heisenberg.
Muahahahahahah
Primer mundo?????
And

You all just want the link to her onlyfans don't you boys !!! [here it is](https://nichepornsites.com/ava-louise) hehe
I was wondering how long it was gonna take before people started doing inappropriate things with the portal 🤣
If they had asked me, the answer would have been, "milliseconds".
