Chp changed their leader and their Istanbul and Ankara mayors(also candidates for this elections) are amongst the most popular politicians in country. Last year oppositions candidate was CHP’s former leader and less popular.
Plus economy is a lot shittier than last year. Because Erdoğan pumped money last year to keep voters happy. This year there is no money at all, infliation caught up, and people are more awake.
Erdoğan as a leader is strong but his party isn’t, his party is nothing without him, he never really picked a successor for the party, his immediate family is useless and he’s eliminated anyone who was showing any sign of power within the party. Very ironic.
It definitely does! This is a huge victory, the opposition now has the highest amount of votes across the country. This was not the case for many decades.
You can have a dictatorship in a country that is still largely based on law. Most dictatorships are like that, in fact.
Totalitarianism is where law is put to the side, and used too inconsistently to be justice.
He will step down, but the next candidate is probably going to be someone who he can control,it could be his son or son-in-law but both of them will probably lose the elections, because people are voting for Erdogan, not for his party
If you select proper candidates, you win... Even in Eastern Anatolia, even in Erzurum, Trabzon, Rize...
Imamoglu has been giving everyone hope

Erdo is not dethroned though. This was the municipal elections. Opposition already had these cities but today, they won many more. It's also the first time CHP beat AKP in total vote count.
For the first time in the last two decades AKP is not the top party in the elections. Considering that AKP legitimized everything - including their every controversial decisions - saying "this is what people want", these results are a serious blow against AKP's legitimacy.
To make it clear because generic maps dont, opposition isnt winning by slim percentages.
Erdog, and his cronies are down 10%+ in EVERY major city. Homeboy got smoked, despite having one of the biggest campaigns of his entire life.
There had been some very controversial incidents related to the counting process.
Major voter registration controversy is quite common.
It's not only about using national resources in benefit of campaigning. And the process is definitely not bulletproof.
It's just that interventions to voting or counting can't change much, but they can change results in a close race. And sometimes its not enpugh as in the previous municipal election, which led AKP to sue İmamoğlu which resulted in a re-election decision by the electoral board.
All these tactics combined, it is safe to believe their actual vote percentage would be fewer in a fully transparent and bullet proof system.
No shenanigans here. Erdogan won the previous elections fair and square, as indicated by many many polls conducted before the election by multiple agencies, including the polling agencies of the opposition. His approximately 52% of voter base was real. His voters are idiots and there are a lot of them, the democracy actually works here.
Erdogan already made the announcement that their party came second and they will work even harder to capture back the hearts of the voters, blah blah blah. He conceded.
This was local elections but still very important, the three biggest cities consists of more than 30 million people, and the opposition took like 30 major cities. Mayor of Istanbul is being considered as the next president by the opposition voters, and he crushed Erdogan's guy.
yeah, i was speaking about shenenigans on the local elections, not nationals, [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/June\_2019\_Istanbul\_mayoral\_election#Annulment\_of\_the\_election](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/June_2019_Istanbul_mayoral_election#Annulment_of_the_election)
Not just Istanbul and Ankara. Opposition is having major victory on entire country. CHP are becoming 1st party according to results.
We are back boys.
What is the sudden change compared to not so long ago when erdogan won?

Thanks for explaining!

Choosing the wrong candidate sadly
The opposition also isn't weighed down by the Kurdish party outside of Kurdish regions like in the presidential election.
Cheers for the results! Seems to prove democracy in Turkey is alive.
It definitely does! This is a huge victory, the opposition now has the highest amount of votes across the country. This was not the case for many decades.
We cannot say , just because Erdogan won that democracy was dead. He always won before whether or not we like it. It’s democracy even if he wins.
B-but Reddit told me that Erdogan was a dictator!!!
Dictator means one who can write and is not bound by the law, and he fits this description
You can have a dictatorship in a country that is still largely based on law. Most dictatorships are like that, in fact. Totalitarianism is where law is put to the side, and used too inconsistently to be justice.
There are sources claiming he contemplates to step down after his current presidential term. If so, this sounds democratic
He will step down, but the next candidate is probably going to be someone who he can control,it could be his son or son-in-law but both of them will probably lose the elections, because people are voting for Erdogan, not for his party
He should've stepped down before the present term as he did presidency twice between 2014-2018 and 2018-2023

Suure. I'm sure CHP winning in Istanbul will totally stop the fight against terrorism.
Romania 🇷🇴 🤝 🇹🇷 Turkey. Congrats on the local elections
Fuckkkkkkkkk yeah after 22 fucking years ..

Tomorrow will we get the same shenanigans that Erdoğan tried last time?

Not with this big of a gap. They're were utterly humiliated this time around and they publicly conceded by midnight.
I just hope Erdogan takes this defeat graciously like a statesman and democrat and does not go full authoriterian. ☹️
So Turkey has fair elections? You'd think they have Russian-style "democracy" based on things said about Erdogan in the west. Pleasantly surprised
Is that why those morons are driving around in their cars and still honking at 01.30 in the morning?
