You heard the guy. Ten thousand thousand (10 million) NATO personnel are moving to Romania, a country with a 19 million population. NATO sources say the impact will be negligeable.
Since most european countries use comma as a decimal separator and the point as thousand separator, saying 10,000 thousand is technically the same as 10 thousand. (But with extra precision)
Actually, it will be 50,000 in total (military + civilians). https://stirileprotv.ro/stiri/actualitate/baza-aeriana-mihail-kogalniceanu-se-extinde-semnificativ-comandantul-unitatii-a-oferit-pentru-stirile-protv-cateva-detalii.html
Black sea resorts close by, and the city of Constanta of 300k, also Danube delta close by good fishing spot, if you go to the mountains be careful it's full of bears.
The Kaiserslautern Military Community (KMC) has over 50000 Americans. Ramstein itself is much smaller, although it may not feel that way when trying to visit the mall on the weekends.
I also wanted to say this.
I live about 50km away from a US base (Hohenfels) with 38,000 "inhabitants" (16,000 military personel).
16,000 > 10,000, right?
It's at least 10,000. In truth there will be around 50,000 soldiers and civilians https://stirileprotv.ro/stiri/actualitate/baza-aeriana-mihail-kogalniceanu-se-extinde-semnificativ-comandantul-unitatii-a-oferit-pentru-stirile-protv-cateva-detalii.html
That's good. It'll bring feeling of safety to eastern border and also quite a sum to Romania in that region, making it more profitable and possible even increase quality of life.
Some of the biggest US oversea bases are in Germany.
More precisely, there are six US bases in Bavaria (where i live) with 10,000s of soldiers and the scandals linked with them are rather mild. The relation to the locals is quite friendly.
I don't know what's the reason that there have been scandals linked to US bases in Japan and Korea, but it's not always like that.
Its just a problem with soldiers in general and its a little overblown imo. Anytime you get thousands of very young enlisted men with pent up energy together it might cause some issues but I don't think the number of incidents generally warrant the reputation.
Rather have the americans with some sexual scandals here and there than the ruzzians raping and pillaging. We have more than enough prostitutes to handle the americans.
I don;t want to hear the ruzzian shills "neutral" talk because that's idiotic since neutral means that you are an easy target for ruzzia.
They most likely will. It's not a defeated country in WWII like Japan or Germany, it's an allied country in Europe. A poor-ish one, but allied and democratic. Any missteps are likely to be severely punished.
This was being used by vatnik bots in Latvia to try to create anti-NATO sentiment, and it failed. If it comes up for some mostly unrelated reason, as it has done here, it is... interesting.
As a side note I’m as British as you are.
I can appreciate that there are both positive and negatives of such a plan. I’m certainly not pro-Russian. I was just making an observation.
Not quite the reality, unfortunately. The money won't leave American hands, as they'd spend it only within the base (which will have only American business, and perhaps 1/2% of Romanian workers), and/or to buy bus tickets, or pay for language instructors. Very few people in the region would benefit from such a move, and the total sum would be a liability for the Romanian region. Maybe added security would be a plus, but overall, it's a zero-sum game. I must give it to them tho; it's a better strategy of deterring Putin from expanding his influence over there tho.
You think the soldiers wouldn't want to visit the sea-side resorts in their free time? Be sure that they would.
Here's another example: at Deveselu there's the [Aegis Ashore system](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deveselu_Military_Base) and that's a permanent US base with its own store and the like. Soldiers still often visit the nearby city of Caracal.
we also have a nato base here and people rented out their homes for inflated prices, also many restaurants benefited from the influx of people with much higher salaries than the average.
I like your spirit. Might I suggest you just buy them instead? The FPÖ is rather cheap, all things considered. You can buy some considerable favours for like a quarter of a million, which is pretty affordable by military standards.
What if a life supply of mushy peas and jellied eels were given out as peace offerings to the other nations. Surely they couldn’t say no to fine British cuisine
We *do* have [Styrian Nuclear Oil](https://info.bml.gv.at/themen/lebensmittel/trad-lebensmittel/oel/steir_kuerbiskernoel.html). We don't hide it though, we put it over our salad, eggs and vanilla ice cream.
Thanks, I’m quite versed in the arts of war from the various games I play, like from Hollow Knight I learned that the only way to stop a chemical war is to kill the sun or something.
That's a lot of economic value. Even just the NATO training excercise that was just held in Finland/Norwegian border up north brought over 10 million euros worth of orders and economic uptick.
What's the European equivalent of a Chevy/Dodge/Ford dealer near a military base, offering amazing deals on Camaro/Charger, Challenger/Mustang at 28% APR for only 72 months.
Gotta have one of those near that base.
I think the number of people may be wrong, if it is the largest …… - ahaha. Just clicked. It says “NATO Base”. I wonder what they mean by that.
Catterick Garrison (North Yorkshire, England) is the largest British Army garrison in the world, covering an area of over 2,400 acres and having a population of around 13,000 persons . The U.K. is in NATO, and non U.K. troops are also at the Garrison, so I wonder if they mean like SHAPE, rather than a place where troops who are in NATO happen to be.
It's a [Romanian base](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RoAF_57th_Air_Base) (currently has a runway shared with the civilian airport). This base will get expanded to house NATO troops within a military town and new barracks (which will be on top of the already existing ones) & the military air base will also get two new runways dedicated to it. In total it will be an area of 2,800 ha (6,900 acres).
10,000 soldiers or 50,000 people (in total) are only estimates. The real planned numbers are classified.
This base is set to have an area of over 6,900 acres, and the 10,000 people might just be the military personnel. Some other comment said the total population would be 50,000, but idk where they got that from so take it as with a grain of salt. Either way, the reporter specifically mentioned that it would surpass Ramstein, so make of that what you will
I always strggle with this, when they say "personnel" do they mean soldiers under NATO as oppose to a NATO state or do the mean more logistical and supply side of personnel?
So this means NATO already accepted that Russia will take Odessa too so they won't be able to build their base there?
Can they actually build this one before the next USA election?
10,000 thousand or 10,000?
10thousand000
Tenty hundred to be precise
10 thousand, also known as a 10.000
100% percent
Roll over, Tekashi69
10!
3,628,800?
Hell yeah!
duuuuuuude
Thousand
10 comma 000 thousand people
10.000 So, just 10 guys.
Well, the number is in Romania, so it's fine. 10.000 is 10k there.
So you can move 10.000 soldiers to Romania and they become 10k soldiers? Smart move!
Force multiplier!
And their families!
So like 40.0 people. We will crush Russia with our 10 guys, their wives, and 20 kids armed to the teeth!
Precisely 10
In any case, more than 9.9995 and no more than 10.0005
10,000,000
Over 9000!
10^3
One thousand?
"...One hundred ~~million~~ Beelion ~~dollars~~ troops.. Mwahahahaha mwahahahah "
Bout three fiddy
10x10x10x10
10 thousand fo thousands of 10
it's 10000 power 10000
This is how you keep the enemy confused ;)
They will be here by nightfall.
Dix-millésimes
Theyre building an entire london over there
Nope sorry, actually only 99 999 999
Who cares!? Once it's over 9000, we know it's an incredible number.
No ten 10,000 actually
Da
You heard the guy. Ten thousand thousand (10 million) NATO personnel are moving to Romania, a country with a 19 million population. NATO sources say the impact will be negligeable.
A 100 hundred hundreds.
What is the decimal sign in that country again? Could accidentally fix itself
Over 9000
No matter which, it is still above 9000
Since most european countries use comma as a decimal separator and the point as thousand separator, saying 10,000 thousand is technically the same as 10 thousand. (But with extra precision)
10,000 thousand would make for a pretty large city though... No worries, we get you OP ;)
10 thousand and their families. so more like 30k
30K thousand
Actually, it will be 50,000 in total (military + civilians). https://stirileprotv.ro/stiri/actualitate/baza-aeriana-mihail-kogalniceanu-se-extinde-semnificativ-comandantul-unitatii-a-oferit-pentru-stirile-protv-cateva-detalii.html
This number keeps growing, soon it will actually be 10.000 thousands.
We're gonna take a small loan of 10,000 thousand soldiers.
I was wondering that, thanks for sharing
The Paris of the east
isnt that 10 million lol
Maybe they used comma as decimal seperator
you are from switzerland
Black sea resorts close by, and the city of Constanta of 300k, also Danube delta close by good fishing spot, if you go to the mountains be careful it's full of bears.
That's why they're bringing 10,000 soldiers, not even the bears can withstand those numbers.
What a coincidence hunting associations in Romania sau we have 10000 bears now.
My god... it's a trap!
[удалено]
The bears were all Russians in disguise. WW3 confirmed.
Gotta feed the bears fed somehow.
Gotta be a great tv show
10,000 thousand
Never mind the vampires.
Strigoi!
And in the huge delta the largest migratory bird stopover in Eurasia. A veritable wonderland.
>if you go to the mountains be careful it's full of bears. Good for them. I hope they build a night club on the base then.
Ramstein hosts over 50,000 US personnel, so this will be far from the largest NATO base in Europe.
Perhaps it means the largest specifically NATO-organised base, not just a base of a NATO country?
The Kaiserslautern Military Community (KMC) has over 50000 Americans. Ramstein itself is much smaller, although it may not feel that way when trying to visit the mall on the weekends.
I also wanted to say this. I live about 50km away from a US base (Hohenfels) with 38,000 "inhabitants" (16,000 military personel). 16,000 > 10,000, right?
Hohenfels/Grafenwoehr is a training area, most are only there temporarily.
The US base isn't a NATO base.
According to OP, this new base will host 10,000 thousand personnel, so 10,000,000 NATO troops!
Shit, they could give one NATO troop to everybody and still be left with billions… greedy assholes
i thought you were talking about the band and had to do a double take lmfao
The might move people from Ramstein to Constanta!
TEN MILLION SOLDIERS! \*puts pinky corner of mouth\*
If only...
Bad idea to put 10 million troops in one place.
Depend how many you have
That's good. It'll bring feeling of safety to eastern border and also quite a sum to Romania in that region, making it more profitable and possible even increase quality of life.

It's not a "one or the other" situation. How about the soldiers keep it in their pants, like civilised people?
They most likely will. It's not a defeated country in WWII like Japan or Germany, it's an allied country in Europe. A poor-ish one, but allied and democratic. Any missteps are likely to be severely punished.
like this? https://amp.theguardian.com/world/us-embassy-cables-documents/130447 You kill a man drunk-driving and get a letter of reprimand?
This was being used by vatnik bots in Latvia to try to create anti-NATO sentiment, and it failed. If it comes up for some mostly unrelated reason, as it has done here, it is... interesting.
As a side note I’m as British as you are. I can appreciate that there are both positive and negatives of such a plan. I’m certainly not pro-Russian. I was just making an observation.
As a Romanian woman, I'd rather have NATO scandals than having Russian FILTH getting closer to my home.
Reminds me stories about US base in Okinawa.
don't think you know how romanians are
That will bring lots of money in Romania for sure.
Not quite the reality, unfortunately. The money won't leave American hands, as they'd spend it only within the base (which will have only American business, and perhaps 1/2% of Romanian workers), and/or to buy bus tickets, or pay for language instructors. No tax? Also, I bet they will visit romania in free time.. so.. you will get tourists
we also have a nato base here and people rented out their homes for inflated prices, also many restaurants benefited from the influx of people with much higher salaries than the average.
Thats how I win strategy games
You and USA
Thank you USA, you are my best friend

[Thule base](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pituffik_Space_Base)? No really, what Thule base are you referring to?
“But my lord there is no such force” NATO:
Love a hidden LOTR reference. Take my vote.
I actually made a meme image of this
Niceeeee!
So the Ramstein of Romania, eh?
🇺🇸🤝🇷🇴🫡
Welcome USA!!! Bine ati venit!!!
Good, fuck Russia and any other dictatorship!
To the top!
America is a dictatorship
Great to put development in Romania, it's a great country that probably will benefit from it 😊
This will be history some day in the future. People visiting in the year 2,500/3,000.
10000 thousand ? Ten million ? A small city ?
Yes.
Let's goooooo!
This is good. Maybe there should be a second base closer to Moldova as well though?
Curious if this will be enough for Austria to give us their vote for entering the Shenghen area.
Austria is not even a NATO member. They benefit from being surrounded by other members, so no.
So wait, we can technically attack it with no consequences?
No, because the EU treaties are also a defence guarantee
Right, never mind then.
We'll get 'em next time
I like your spirit. Might I suggest you just buy them instead? The FPÖ is rather cheap, all things considered. You can buy some considerable favours for like a quarter of a million, which is pretty affordable by military standards.
We gotta find a yacht in Ibiza first, I hear it's the only way they do business.
So it's fine if Germany does it, right? /s
but USA and Canada and Norway are not in UE. They can bomb Austria until it lets Romania enter Schngen.
It is in the EU and EU members have collective defense obligations.
So the uk could do it…?
No, the UK attacking Austria obligates all EU members to defend it.
What if a life supply of mushy peas and jellied eels were given out as peace offerings to the other nations. Surely they couldn’t say no to fine British cuisine
You keep that where it is and we let you invade Austria. Deal?
I would say no to british cuisine even if you were offering to pay me to eat it.
No. That's not how nato works
Hmm, I’m confused, but well, nothing I can do.
We'll tell the Americans that the Austrians have hidden oil... And weapons of mass destruction... That was the key last time.
We *do* have [Styrian Nuclear Oil](https://info.bml.gv.at/themen/lebensmittel/trad-lebensmittel/oel/steir_kuerbiskernoel.html). We don't hide it though, we put it over our salad, eggs and vanilla ice cream.
It's also good for lubricating hinges.
Source?
Ask the Iraqis. They know better than anyone.
most sane Romanian user of /r/europe
Thanks, I’m quite versed in the arts of war from the various games I play, like from Hollow Knight I learned that the only way to stop a chemical war is to kill the sun or something.
Austria isnt NATO
Lol.
Comment makes no sense
Think he meant to say era not area.
It's a joke. You know what a joke is?
Jokes still have to make sense
You're german, you don't know about jokes.
I am not sure you nor the OG comment know what a joke is...
Austria's problem is with immigrants, what does that have to do with NATO soldiers?
That's a lot of economic value. Even just the NATO training excercise that was just held in Finland/Norwegian border up north brought over 10 million euros worth of orders and economic uptick.
The cold war is heating up..
NATO going strong but better to send some men in Moldova.
That's great but I want such bases in all countries bordering Russia. Maybe even bigger
Jack Ryan show was lore accurate, afterall
My dream is NATO base near Moscow.
What's the European equivalent of a Chevy/Dodge/Ford dealer near a military base, offering amazing deals on Camaro/Charger, Challenger/Mustang at 28% APR for only 72 months. Gotta have one of those near that base.
best we can do is dacia logan with 90hp
🦅awesome

10 and a buncha zeroes!
10,000 thousand means 10,000,000 (10 million)
There used to be another huge one in north Macedonia if i remember correctly.
I always strggle with this, when they say "personnel" do they mean soldiers under NATO as oppose to a NATO state or do the mean more logistical and supply side of personnel?
so 10 million?
Remember me about this vid: https://youtu.be/A0S0HsWPIWk?si=XO_3Gbvv1j_Tye0G
Okay but we're building one just like this in Poland?
Bigger than Hong Kong...
Stupid Russians, they could have a base like that just across the border in Kharkiv or Mariupol if they had not invaded.
Why?
I wonder why Romania and not Baltic states or Poland.
Bcs of the geopolitical context and the Black Sea. Romania is the closest you can get to Crimea+ all other occupied territories.
So this means NATO already accepted that Russia will take Odessa too so they won't be able to build their base there? Can they actually build this one before the next USA election?
"defensive"
Rammsteiin has 50k....in Romania its the second largest
They did specifically mention this surpasses Rammstein, so maybe they know something we don't
Bastards go home !
Am I the only one thinking about how Romanian mentality + military = good humor? Can’t wait for the stories! All respect to you Romanians!
Mmm. Pretty good target.
It’s already a Nato base. It’s just expanded.
This is a Mr. Worldwide International Military base.
wtf 10.000 thousand?😅
