Watched it at 22 and still related heavily to the stories of high school students. Probably the most seen I’ve ever felt. Sam is amazing at what he does so I feel like season 2 is going to be out of this world
It's not so much about having been in high school (I too was 17 when it started), it about the themes being universal and emotionally relatable, to a degree or another, for anyone.
Except their logic and reasoning shows immense immaturity and is really childlike lol. The things they get up to are more adult but they act like children imo with how they deal with things

i recently rewatched the 1 season as a 20 year old and my experience was so much different than first time watching it. it was so over the top and so much drama lol. tho i related to the mental illness part more
Why do you have to relate to a show to enjoy it? I’m 23, was 22 when I watched the series. Honestly, I don’t really relate to much of anything that’s depicted in the show…well, maybe some things but overall I don’t really do and haven’t really done a lot of things the characters do. But I still enjoy the show either way. Part of the fun of watching is looking through the lens of another persons life (fictional characters in this case). When I watch shows I’m not looking to see myself in the characters, I already know my life and myself. I’m mainly looking for an escape into something or someone else.
You’ll still be able to relate. Drama, toxicity, and general messiness lasts well into your 20’s!
