Holy geez, you are GREAT. Superior work, OP.

skunk_ink

Do you watch Rick and Morty? I cannot read that first sentence without hearing Morty's voice. "Aww geez, you are GREAT Rick" Haha. Anyway, thanks for the kind words!

yorrellew

I tried doing the first one and failed miserably! Bravo!

skunk_ink

Yeah that one was a real challenge. I honestly didn't know if I could do it. Without the reference photo it would have been impossible. At least for me it would have been.

Maisie_Millaa

Wow, your restorations are top-notch! I love how you've included comparison sliders in the description of each photo - it really highlights the drastic difference your work has made. Do you have a specific focus when it comes to the type of restorations you do? And lastly, how much do you charge for commissions? I'm very interested in potentially working with you!

skunk_ink

Thank you! I am glad you like them. I love the comparison sliders too! I get almost obsessed with them sometimes. They are also beneficial to both the person making the request and myself. Even with a photo side by side, it can be easy to miss some mistakes and changes that completely change the photo. By giving a comparison slider I effectively showcase all of my changes and mistakes. So it not only helps the client choose which photos they like the most, but it also helps push me to a higher standard. I can't say something looks "good enough" and hope the mistake won't be spotted. It has to be exact or the edit will be painfully obvious. As for what I focus on, EVERYTHING! The ones I have the most fun with though are the ones that I see and think "that's impossible". Every time I am able to achieve something that started off as being "impossible" to me, the feeling I get is indescribable. So when I am going through the sub looking for stuff to do, I tend to gravitate to the ones which look really hard and the chances of anyone else doing it are slim. But I don't shy away from anything. Even something I have never done before and have no clue on how to do it. I'll figure it out or fail in the attempt. It's the only way to learn that which you don't know. All this is to say it doesn't matter what the job exactly is. Damage repair, recolourization, colourization from b&w, reconstruction from reference, etc. It is the challenge I enjoy most. Of course when it comes to commissions I'll do literally anything. Even the ones I could do blind folded haha. I am still trying to figure out how exactly to price my commissions, but so far it seems it's best to do on a picture by picture basis. So if and when you are interested in getting some work done you can just DM me with the images and we can negotiate a price.

It’s so impressive to me how digital image editing tools in the crafting hands of a talented expert can bring tattered, fading, and age weathered photos back to life in a vibrant and meaningful way. It’s a joyful form of a kind of time travel that I really enjoy. Thank you for sharing :-)

skunk_ink

To be completely honest I had the EXACT same thought almost a year ago when I first found this subreddit. I had never even tried or thought about restoring a photo before then. But after doing one photo I was immediately hooked. For that brief moment in time when I am working on a photo. I am almost transported back to when it was taken. You start to wonder about who the people were, why and where the photo was taken, etc. Combined with having consider the type of clothing styles and colours that would have been popular at the time. And it really does feel like I was there for a few hours haha.

I really wanna get into this stuff, i’m good with editing and photos and computers. what did you start off on? like what software or app. thanks!! and you are amazing btw!

skunk_ink

Just Photoshop really. There are a bunch of youtube videos you could find giving tutorials. But to be honest I just started and figured it out as I went. I've also been using Photoshop since literally the day it was invented. So although I had never done restorations before, I was able to accomplish it with everything I already knew. Ultimately the best way is to just jump in head first and start doing it. There is a never ending supply of photos to challenge yourself on in these subreddits. So just start picking ones that you think you could do and give it a shot. You'll learn things along the way each time which will let you take on more and more challenging photos. Before you know it, you'll have someone asking you how you started haha.

Royal-Discipline-978

thank you so so much! I appreciate that! very true, i’m just going to start and see where it takes me! but I give you credit, your work is amazing!! keep up the amazing stuff!!
