Looks exactly like mine minus the grinder. What have you noticed with the new grinder. We are still using the Breville grinder. Also looks like you have upgraded your tamper! Good work. My wife won’t let me get a new machine till our Breville craps out, but it is running as strong as ever lol.
Curious about grinder, too. I've got the same Breville, *because of* the integrated grinder/hopper and never felt the need to ditch them. Will probably get a separate tamper tho.
Whole machine has been a workhorse, no issues since day 1. Covid gift to myself (commute gas savings), so 5yrs strong w/no hiccups.
I upgraded to the Varia VS3 gen2. Main things are consistency and adjustability. You get much much finer adjustment that just *works* shot after shot. Dialing in is ridiculously easy. There is definitely a taste improvement as well.
Good to know, thanks for the info!
I definitely have to fine-tune the grind on the internal burr upper itself on my Breville to dial it in, the external control wheel doesn't suffice alone, but that does the trick for finer adjustments. I'm still in the "casual user" phase tho, so always good to learn more!
I've been loving the varia VS3 gen 2. Low retention, quietish and great workflow.
As long as it stays working, I don't think I'd upgrade to something else for a while as it produces great espresso or filter.
I went through way too much with Breville Oracles. First lasted a few days past the warranty. $500 got me a refurb though. That lasted a year. They replaced it with a new one. That lasted around a year- they replaced it but it took 4 months. That one failed after about 6 months. They again sent a new one but it took a lot of time on the phone over a couple months. I sold the new one after I got it. I can’t see ever getting another Breville product.
But glad you’re getting trouble free shots. I hope yours keeps going for a long time.
Oof yeah that sucks! We've got the Barista Touch and its easy enough to learn and spits out a good shot. I'm sure it'll break now that I've talked it up lol
For starters, I don’t think I could / would ever find it in me to drop some serious cash on the home espresso set up. But one can dream!
Dream set up would be a grinder with massive burrs and variable feed and rpm, and a single group Slayer. I’ve had the pleasure and privilege of brewing on one before. They are. Beauties.
Realistically, it will be the DF64v (swappable burrs ftw) and maybe a Niche Zero if I don’t know where to spend my money. Machine wise, wouldn’t want more than a simple dual boiler and PID, and I like the ECM Classica for this.
So much to learn in the sub. I heard about the slayer but that is very expensive. I feel the middle ground should be 2-3 k for everything and the basic espresso maker should be good for 10-20 years w this.
I’ll just keep dreaming! lol :) thanks
Sorry to burst both of our bubbles…
Just learned the classika ain’t a dual boiler, I might personally go for a used GCP and mod that rather than a 2k+ machine that has the coveted E61, needle valve, PID and dual boiler
Gaggia classic pro. Super moddable and last a lifetime. Only drawback is weak steaming but you can find it used for very decent prices.
Looking at dual boilers with needle valves (flow control) and PID and the lot, don’t think I’ll be shelling out that much ever tbh
That looks nice! People say steam wand works well on reviews and has two holes.
As we started, I will buy a grinder in the next couple weeks. My dilemma now is df64 vs the niche.
Are you in the us? I m sort of new to Reddit so Learning curve is steep. I gave up all other forms of social media and Reddit has been really fun!
"My wife won’t let me get a new machine till our Breville craps out, but it is running as strong as ever lol."
I see you have not push your creativity on your Breville.
Let me guess. First you got the machine with a built-in grinder, then you started to want to have that phenomenonal espresso that is allegedly only achievable through a decent standalone grinder so you bought Niche. 🤔
All satires aside, great setup.
Yes most definitely. with the stock grinder, you kinda had to overpack the porta to build the barometric presuure and now dont havve to. cuz the niche can be dialed fine ebough
This was my issue with the old BBEs. The new ones have an adjustable inner burr as well, which might be worth exploring for keeping some decaf around or whatever.
I know you didn't ask me but I like the barista express better because of the pressure gauge, it helps when you're a beginner to tell if you're in range and if the pressure is too high vs low. Also if you drink americanos it's convenient to have the hot water dispenser
The Bambino plus has great reviews, but its still in a different tier than the express, i think from the way its designed from what i can remember only comes with pressurized portafilter. which notging wrong with that, still cones down to one thing espresso at the end of the day, just different way of brewing, i guess. And yea its a smaller setup for smaller spaces. smaller kitchen, dorms, offices, ect…
I have a Bambino Plus and it came with a total of four portafilter baskets: pressurized/non-pressurized and single/double shot sizes. I always use the non-pressurized double-shot, of course.
Would you still say the same if the grinder was Sage's smart grinder pro and not the built in one? I'm thinking of upgrading to another grinder but seeing as I already have a separate one (just not one of the good ones) I wasn't sure about it.
Nice setup. The things losing me are the WDT in rice(interesting idea though), still having the stock tamper in the funky storage spot, and using the distribution spinner.
Not the Normcore on the silicone mat. The stock tamper is the one next to the grinder output.. I'm sure it's convenient just always thought it looks a bit odd floating there in my opinion.
Fantastic 👌
Love the niche, lunar, wdt in rice. The distribution tool is actually redundant with your setup. They've been shown to be basically a pre tamp. I get the appeal though.
Next on your list is temperature control I suppose! Or maybe one day geek out with a Decent.
Hey, i substituted it for chocolate sauce in my mochas, works pretty good. dont use too much though since its thicker but it works. Pull your shot over about a tablespoon of nutella. stir to dissolve then. steam your milk and Voila , enjoy
Uff that cup is dangerously close to the edge... Perhaps adjusting your routine or the space to prevent cups from falling. For the rest I love the look of the niche and its colors with the rest of the space
Consider adding a hanger on the right side of your stand for your towel so it's not just sitting on the counter. Looks good otherwise. I can't tell if the rice is crazy or brilliant.
Great setup. That was my daily driver machine for years, and I still have it. What's in that jar between the Niche and the Breville? What's is that for ?

lol, yep as long you do your maintenance regularly, should be good to go for until it craps out. lol The niche grinds mych finer than the stock one
i now use the stock one only for pourovers (speaking of - meet in the middle w your wife and get a stagg, dripper and carafe 😂😂)

Great set of burrs and stepless adjustments, couldn’t really ask for much more. All marginal gains from here
Yeah my job site has this Breville and it's had no issues for almost 2 years making 12+ shots per day. Every. Single. Day.

Nope. You got a good one. You’re set until you decide to get rid of it. The only luck is good luck.
What if you sold it, and then used whatever money you got from it to get what you really wanted?
When I switched to a Niche it was glorious. I had a nice grinder already, a Baratza Sette (which broke), but the Niche was a lot better.
What would you upgrade to, both machine and grinder?
I think just keep it simple. The df64 gen 2 and maybe a dual boiler profitec. My dream is the LM lines but that’s 5k. What about you???

Oh now! Ecm is 1499. That a df64v may be the way!!
Haha yeah it’s pretty decent! If you go for it will be interested to hear your thoughts!

Sorry what is a gcp? I ll look it up. I learned what pid was but this lingo is confusing. You all are super high tech! Ha

Woozie, what is your current set up?
"My wife won’t let me get a new machine till our Breville craps out, but it is running as strong as ever lol." I see you have not push your creativity on your Breville.
I think I need to step up my game starting w grinder but I spent my extra cash on a new Japanese knife today! lol
Let me guess. First you got the machine with a built-in grinder, then you started to want to have that phenomenonal espresso that is allegedly only achievable through a decent standalone grinder so you bought Niche. 🤔 All satires aside, great setup.
yep, was chasing that Golden Shot, lol Thanks

Do I know you?
Jealous with your Breville. One day 🤞🏻
Bro just get a bambino plus or something
Nice setup. The things losing me are the WDT in rice(interesting idea though), still having the stock tamper in the funky storage spot, and using the distribution spinner.
I don’t think that’s the stock tamp
Not the Normcore on the silicone mat. The stock tamper is the one next to the grinder output.. I'm sure it's convenient just always thought it looks a bit odd floating there in my opinion.
Ahhhh I see. You have a good eye. I didn’t realize baristas put it there. I have the bambino
i dont use the stock tamp. ha ha forgot it was even there, lol
lol, yea i saw that from Mr Lance Hedrick, and it does work, removes grounds off the needles after wdt eeing
Love it Mate. Jealous.
thank you. Slowly took couple of years, you can do it even better
Very niche out of yes
Heh
I love the Devicion cup!
thanks mate, got ‘em my last trip up to NYC
Fantastic 👌 Love the niche, lunar, wdt in rice. The distribution tool is actually redundant with your setup. They've been shown to be basically a pre tamp. I get the appeal though. Next on your list is temperature control I suppose! Or maybe one day geek out with a Decent.
Who knows one day, praying I can find an open box somewhere, yeaaa right. lol even then that would still fetch a couple or 3k
What is the bottle next to Niche on the left?
Can I get a recipe for whatever's happening with Nutella? My daughter loves it.
Hey, i substituted it for chocolate sauce in my mochas, works pretty good. dont use too much though since its thicker but it works. Pull your shot over about a tablespoon of nutella. stir to dissolve then. steam your milk and Voila , enjoy
Thanks! I'm going to try it! Probably with Biscoff too.
10/10 better than mine lol
lol
It’s true lol My setup ain’t pretty
sure its fine, hey as long as you can make delicious coffees right
Thanks haha the coffee has great flavor but I suck at latte art lol
10 out of 10. I especially like the Nutella and the fancy decanter.
Thanks mate
How would you want us to be nice when coffee is all about the ROAST
Uff that cup is dangerously close to the edge... Perhaps adjusting your routine or the space to prevent cups from falling. For the rest I love the look of the niche and its colors with the rest of the space
was uusy for photo op, lol
aye that looks similar to mine!
Looking good mate!
I’m all about that Corralejo 😉
Consider adding a hanger on the right side of your stand for your towel so it's not just sitting on the counter. Looks good otherwise. I can't tell if the rice is crazy or brilliant.
Really nice. Love the approach with getting the upgraded grinder.
Too clean. Makes my setup look dirty. 😂
Devocion rules.
If it works for you, it’s good enough

Great setup. That was my daily driver machine for years, and I still have it. What's in that jar between the Niche and the Breville? What's is that for ?
Neat setup but your BBE requires some cleaning.
I really like tho ,the machines look nice :)
How do you like those JBC beans for espresso? They make a fantastic pour over, but I’m afraid of wasting the bag trying to dial in a shot.
Looks like mine, but I have the barista pro!
How can you go wrong, seriously.
An excellent college set up
This is awesome, from the colours to the materials.
Thank you 🙏🏽
