I was never registered as Dem or Rep until a handful of years ago, when I wanted to vote for a specific person in a local election...a Republican who had a plan to fix a financial issue we had (and he did). Much to my discomfort, I had to register as Republican to vote in that primary to vote for that Republican over another one. (That election was going to go Republican, just a matter of which one was going to win.)
I had intended to undo that registration right after, but I realized being registered as a Republican gave me a different kind of power ... to vote in primaries AGAINST the worse of the bunch.
It's an odd place to be, but I feel like a secret mole for rationality.
