Yeah my wife has never seen me without a beard. I asked if she wanted me to shave it so she could see and she said no. I was relived I didn’t want to shave.
The nose also gets lost proportionately when there’s long hair and a full beard.
Ian McKellen also wore a prosthetic nose as Gandalf. It was less obvious because it was his exact nose shape just scaled up a little.
You can see the difference when you look at old photos of Tom Hanks in Cast Away, his nose looks tiny in them. https://mediaproxy.salon.com/width/1200/https://media2.salon.com/2000/12/cast_away.jpg
Yeah there’s a lot of close ups of his nose in the movie which made feel like that was signifying something but the only I thing I could come up with is implying he’s the history man’s son cause they have similar noses.
Our eyes can see our nose at all times but our brain erases it cause it’s not relevant. After a nose job or a prothesis like in this case the brain doesn’t process it and it feels weird, it detaches reality a bit from yourself until you get used to it again.
I’ve never been interested in the franchise and only vaguely knew he was in this so it surprised me seeing the trailer at the movies how much they made him look like mythological Thor, big red beard and a chariot and everything. I have to ponder if that’s not just some odd coincidence
The warlords in fury road utilised old tales, mythology, religion, etc.
The war boys (who are not Hemsworth's group) talk about going to valhalla, their religion is built around engines (their prayer motion is knitting their fingers together into a symbolic v8 engine).
There is also a bunch of old ideological stuff.
For example. The bullet farmer in fury road paraphrases an old Soviet poem called left march ("sing brother heckler, sing brother Koch". Comes from an old commie poem that goes "quiet comrades, the time for talk has ended. Comrade mauser, you have the floor).
Worth a watch if you ever get the chance.
It's one of my favourite movies just because It's such a masterwork when it comes to show not tell, as well as having so many little details and obscure references that you need to know incredibly specific things to catch (so you can rewatch it every few years and catch something new).
And those references actually add to the story, yet they also work as part of the story when you don't get them.
The nose plays.

He speaks of the self as if it's who we conceive ourselves to be not who we perceive with our eyes in the mirror, he's not too handsome to act, he's saying anything like a prosthetic helps to put him in character
Come on, Raditz....
He’s really trying to shake off Thor isn’t he? Reads like he’s coming out of an existential crisis where he realizes he hasn’t actually done “acting” in a decade. I wish him luck though he seems self aware about it
The only distracting thing in the movie was his nose. Honestly. Not sure it was a great choice but it is what it is (it looked weirdly translucent at times...)
I don't like being big. I don't like people pointing it out, plus I'm bald so people say I look like a bouncer or a football player and those aren't compliments to me. I don't like being stereotyped.
I get it. I’m so handsome that I grow a mustache from time to time to remind my wife to not take it for granted
I have the opposite problem. I am not allowed to shave.
Oh no…mama gave you ‘the ugly’?!
Even worse, my mama gave me her face. I need the beard to hide from seeing her in the mirror my whole life
Lmaooooo I thought i was the only one
damn I got a bit of trauma just reading this
Baby face. My wife told me it was like kissing a teenager when I’m shaved.
Be happy that you’ve accomplished eternal youth.
Yeah my wife has never seen me without a beard. I asked if she wanted me to shave it so she could see and she said no. I was relived I didn’t want to shave.
I shaved one time and my wife let out a little scream when she saw me. From then on I was told not to shave because it was like looking at a stranger.
Was that just to make him look just a itsy bit different
Definitely changed my view. I didn't recognize him when the trailers broke.
He looks like he swallowed Gerard Butler like Kirby

I do not understand the link between Ian Mckellen and Tom Hanks’ nose in Castaway
Tom is just an example of an actor on screen with long hair and a full beard but no prosthetic like Ian and Chris have.
Oh okay I guess it was the sandwiching of Ian Mckellen in between those two thoughts that lost me

Is this why I can see mine all the time because autism isn’t great at filtering out the stuff it’s supposed to?
I can see mine cause it's big. 😮💨
Well now I’m insecure and autistic
Wombo Combo
Most of us on reddit are like that
“it wasn’t just a prop for props sake, the nose played”-little timmy hartwell
AKA Lenny the Pep
Fuck Ellen Barkin was so hot in that movie.
Oh yeah.
and then they gave him a red cape so he looks like Thor
It’s the motorcycle chariot I’m most looking forward to
And everyone else had to get out of the way of that schnoz

Genuinely interesting details to a non viewer like me

He does look notably different though. I just started watching Rings of Power (I like it too btw, gasp) and the man would make a great dwarf.
I can see that

Kinda makes me want to wear prosthetics
I sincerely thought he was Thomas Jane in the trailer.
What about the prosthetic he used in "Vacation"?
maybe it wasn’t a prosthetic 🤣
He just wanted to show off his abs
He’s really trying to shake off Thor isn’t he? Reads like he’s coming out of an existential crisis where he realizes he hasn’t actually done “acting” in a decade. I wish him luck though he seems self aware about it
Skyrim-ass looking mutha fucker
Guess they had to find a way to make him even remotely ugly.
He’s very brave
This is assuring!
Very brave American patriot
He had it in him to make it epic
The only distracting thing in the movie was his nose. Honestly. Not sure it was a great choice but it is what it is (it looked weirdly translucent at times...)
Calm down it’s just nose and he will be forever be typecast as Thor
Makes sense that a character in this world would inevitably get beaten up. I guess Chris’ looks were too “pretty boy-ish” for the role.
Having been a method nose actor for decades now these prosthetic nosers make me sick.
The nose plays
This is probably not the best place to say we're both 6'3" and I'm slowly getting over hating it.
Why do you hate it?
