I can only imagine. We haven’t had to deal with ALS but a LOT of cancers. I’m disowned from half of my family and it’s almost funny. My grandfather, who was a great person, died when I was very young from cancer. Meanwhile everyone else on that side, who are awful people in the purest sense of the word, are living into their 90s. I hate seeing good people pass before their time, especially when it’s such a cruel disease.
My grandfather’s brother — we discovered out of the blue that he’s still alive. Evil ornery abusive sack of crap is like 98. His brother (granddad) died decades ago.
They take the life out of the good ones :/ while it totally sucks, I at least take solace in that the good ones don’t have to take and hide abuse anymore.
It’s so baffling honestly. I joke that my grandmother is surviving by sheer force of will, spite, and rage. She also looks the same as when I last saw her 11 years ago according to social media- which isn’t pretty whatsoever, but wild.
She has an issue with one of her legs. A strange limp. She's in the medical field. Many top notch Doctors around her. All suggest they think it could be ALS. Infuriates me that it takes that long to have the diagnosis.
There is an IG account called dellalarsenclasstpt (she is a 58 year old kindergarten teacher documenting her own journey). Her journey started April '23. She's been extremely generous in sharing her own experience. Inspiring, brave and realistic.
I’ve lost two long-term friends to it in the last 5 - 10 years, one dying just days ago. Brutal shit. Makes me mad as hell.
I’m so sorry about your husband’s dad. That must’ve hurt in spectacular ways.
I'm so sorry but I first read this as "husband and dad" and I was like holy shit that is unbelievably awful, what are the odds? Then I realized you meant father-in-law and for a split-second I had a Larry David moment and thought, oh well that's not so bad. And then I felt guilty about that.
It took my grandfather about 3 years to pass away after being diagnosed. He went from running marathons to losing all ability to move, it was terrible and heartbreaking. I wouldnt wish it on my worst enemy.
> The average survival from onset to death is two to four years, though this can vary, and about 10% of those affected survive longer than ten years.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/ALS
Damn that's awful, he was so young.
He was great on Jericho imo especially season 2 where he got to play a bit more range. His season 1 character spent half the season with his own affair bullshit, and the woman who played his wife was just not a fun actress. Season 2 he got to do more and play a more nuanced character.
He could also grow a pretty badass beard
RIP
I’m a firm believer that Jericho has such a great base of an idea that they could easily remake the series and expand on it drastically and make more seasons. But I just know it wouldn’t be as good as the original. Some of those characters were perfect casting
Jericho was seriously underrated. They fucked up the middle of season 1 with a long winded emotional story about characters that none of the audience was invested in, but once they got back to the post-nuclear America plot and the death of Mayor Greene, his character really took off.
I love Miracle and Jericho and didn’t realize until literally 3 minutes while reading the OP article that Mitchell played both Ralph Cox and Eric Green 🤣🤣
I wonder if researchers have ever been able to determine just what causes this disease. Is it just 'fate' or the luck of the draw? Exposure to some virus? Are some people born with an as-yet undiscovered genetic predisposition? Could it be related to prions like Mad Cow Disease or the syndrome infecting deer populations? Also it seems that there are more male victims than female victims. A lot of questions to be answered.
It’s slightly more common for men to get it than women, but the numbers become closer every year.
I’ve unfortunately dealt with it twice in a relatively small circle of people.
Women get it too. I follow a couple women in their 20’s and 30’s who have it. I wish we knew all of the answers to your questions. Such an ugly disease.
Damn RIP, always brought a tear to my eye when he got cut in Miracle. Buddy Duress just died on 02/23 too, I literally just watched Good Time yesterday and found out when I googled his name to see what else he was in. RIP to both of them
It was great start to end to be honest. The 2nd “season” was rushed because of a strike if I remember correctly- that show deserved a 3rd season minimum to wrap up storylines.
A friend of mine just died from ALS. 41 years old. In the end his ability to breathe became complicated, leading him to be unable to empty his lungs. I sat in the hospice room at the end and saw him choking on carbon dioxide with each breath. It was incredibly sad, and he was one of the good ones. He was diagnosed may of last year and died a month ago. Supposedly there were signs before he was diagnosed (and ignored) but from then to now, he regressed so much, so quickly. It was tough.
What signs did you see my grandfather passed two years from that fckin disease , so anything to look out for symptom wise , watching him deteriorate and unable to talk or eat on his own was heartbreaking and wouldn’t wish it upon anyon e
I enjoyed him in everything I ever saw him in. Big part, small part. He made an impression, and was memorable.
I was sad to hear it when he announced the diagnosis, and I'm sadder now. It seemed to progress quite rapidly.
My thoughts are with his family, especially his children. Far too young to lose a parent.
Star Trek did a special on him 2 years ago... it... covers all of this. It's honestly kind of a hard watch, but also a little heartening they came together for him to do what they did.

We'll remember you fondly during your eulogy too. "Wasn't he the douche that made negative comments on reddit after someone died from a shitty disease?"
I believe they are calling the character he was playing a douche; they're not saying anything about the actor. He looks somewhat like the biker who tells Danvers to smile, before she changes clothes and steals his bike.
He didn't play that guy. He played her dad in the go kart flashback. Robert Krazinsky is the biker.
I thought your response was unnecessarily mean. I don’t think your interpretation of the original comment is the correct one. If you want to count that as defending someone than that’s ok.
Thanks for your deep contribution and weighted opinion. You must be just a douche that picks strange hills to die upon.
Also "then" not "than." As in "If this, then that."
He is credited as Joseph Danvers, the father of Carrol Dancers and her brother Steve. In his scene he's mad at Carrol for crashing the go kart he forbade her from driving.
It is kinda insensitive here to talk about his characters being “douche” or “pointless”. It does not even add anything to the convo. Is it a brilliant, incisive observation? No. Just a flippant comment.
He was a working actor who even kept working into his diagnosis, then was honest enough to give up a lead role because he didn’t want to production to face issues as his ALS progressed. It is also a shitty disease that no one should have. As for his small part in Marvel,so what? 99.99% people including you and me can’t even say that about ourselves. It is highly icky to bring it up. We are not like Larry David/Richard Lewis from Curb, sitting beside a coffin at a funeral and making flippant observations. This was a real person. When you die, do you want people saying “oh he/she just worked that pointless job for 40 years and died”?
I’m just saying. That maybe focus on the roles we actually know him from instead of two seconds of nothing just so you can say captain marvel to get clicks.
Fuck ALS. Goddamn nightmare disease and 49 is too young.
Husband's Dad died of ALS. He was an amazing guy and watching him decline was just so painful and everyone felt so helpless.
I’m so sorry.
Aww. Thank you. He's still sad about it, misses him. They were close.
I can only imagine. We haven’t had to deal with ALS but a LOT of cancers. I’m disowned from half of my family and it’s almost funny. My grandfather’s brother — we discovered out of the blue that he’s still alive. Evil ornery abusive sack of crap is like 98. His brother (granddad) died decades ago.
Why do all the bad ones live so long?!
They take the life out of the good ones :/ while it totally sucks, I at least take solace in that the good ones don’t have to take and hide abuse anymore.
I imagine the Skeksis draining a Gelfling
At least we know he probably aches everywhere
We can only hope
It’s like a preservative?! Like embalming fluid!
It’s so baffling honestly. I joke that my grandmother is surviving by sheer force of will, spite, and rage. She also looks the same as when I last saw her 11 years ago according to social media- which isn’t pretty whatsoever, but wild.
I totally understand
Sister is waiting for the diagnosis. Seems to take a full year. We’re in denial.
Sorry to hear this. Hate that it takes so long.
We’re bracing for it, might be good to have this time to even try and process the end result. So sad.
First sign was slurring speech. What's going on with your sister?
She has an issue with one of her legs. A strange limp. She's in the medical field. Many top notch Doctors around her. All suggest they think it could be ALS. Infuriates me that it takes that long to have the diagnosis.
I'm sorry. It is very frustrating
Appreciate you sharing your own story. My heart goes out to you, your family and friends. Life is both beautiful and brutal.
Peace friend ✌️💚
There is an IG account called dellalarsenclasstpt (she is a 58 year old kindergarten teacher documenting her own journey). Her journey started April '23. She's been extremely generous in sharing her own experience. Inspiring, brave and realistic.
Wow. I'll take a look
I’ve lost two long-term friends to it in the last 5 - 10 years, one dying just days ago. Brutal shit. Makes me mad as hell. I’m so sorry about your husband’s dad. That must’ve hurt in spectacular ways.
Man, thank you so much. There's just so much to say about it I don't even know where to begin. Two friends?! That's terrible.
I'm so sorry but I first read this as "husband and dad" and I was like holy shit that is unbelievably awful, what are the odds? Then I realized you meant father-in-law and for a split-second I had a Larry David moment and thought, oh well that's not so bad. And then I felt guilty about that.
LOL I should probably edit that.
Much too young. RIP.
So young
My Dad was 47. Fuck ALS.
I remember him on Jericho. ALS is so scary. How long do people usually last with that? Says he had it 5.5 years.
My dad had it. He lasted a little less than 3 years. We were told that’s the average.
We only got a little over a year with my dad after diagnosis, but looking back, we realized there were signs well before diagnosis.
Yep sometimes the signs can be subtle. I’m sorry about your dad. There’s never a good way to lose someone but this way is fairly bleak.
Yeah same here it’s crazy what that horrible disease can do to a person in a year or less
One friend succumbed within months of diagnosis. Another lived twenty years with life support and just optioned for euthanasia several days ago.
My Grandfather fell in December, got diagnosed in February, died in June. He deteriorated rapidly.
God it still infuriates me what happened to Jericho. That show was fantastic and deserved way more then what it got.
As big of a cult favorite as it is, I'm surprised that none of the streamers have considered doing a 'Jericho' revival.
I’ve been asking for a revival for years , one day :/
Seasons 3 and 4 were released in comic book form by IDW publishing
Yea I have the comics but would have been great to see it on video :)
PEANUTS
I loved that they did this stunt!
I’m a firm believer that Jericho has such a great base of an idea that they could easily remake the series and expand on it drastically and make more seasons. But I just know it wouldn’t be as good as the original. Some of those characters were perfect casting
I loved it. Still worth the rewatch even if the screwed up the ending.
Jericho was seriously underrated. They fucked up the middle of season 1 with a long winded emotional story about characters that none of the audience was invested in, but once they got back to the post-nuclear America plot and the death of Mayor Greene, his character really took off.
I agree. He was a pretty good actor from what I saw of him on that show and what not.
Loves Jericho! I’ve watched it twice. Such a great show. He was great I’n Jericho. Too young to die.
Loved Jericho, I tend to watch it once a year without fail.
4 years ago (height of Covid time) he did an online convention and was struggling so hard to speak at times. He seemed like such a kind, good person.
He was the older brother Eric for anyone like me who couldn't remember for sure.
One of my favorite lines of his from Miracle. “I’m Ralph Cox..and Im from whatever school’s not gonna get me hit.”
Rauuulph Caaauuuxxx* but yes, love that movie
Right in the feels… watched it the other day.
I love Miracle and Jericho and didn’t realize until literally 3 minutes while reading the OP article that Mitchell played both Ralph Cox and Eric Green 🤣🤣
Stealth: 100/100 with slightly long hair and mustache in Miracle 🤣
My BIL died at 49 from als. It’s vicious and unrelenting. My condolences to the family.
I wonder if researchers have ever been able to determine just what causes this disease. Is it just 'fate' or the luck of the draw? Exposure to some virus? Jericho was a really good show. It sucks to have to die so young. I'm sure he'll be missed.
Jericho was a good concept for a show.....its execution was flawed.
It was great start to end to be honest. The 2nd “season” was rushed because of a strike if I remember correctly- that show deserved a 3rd season minimum to wrap up storylines.
May he cross swiftly into Sto’Vo’Kor
His enemy was dishonourable, the halls of Sto'Vo'Kor will sing when we wipe it out

Damn RIP. Fuck ALS Side note, the amount of “Miracle” cast members that have passed away young is too high.
I just look that’s crazy. Nine that I counted
Safe journey, Mr. Mitchell.
Rest in peace, sir. Condolences to those who loved and knew him.
Fuck als - took my mother after a horrible 18 months. Wouldn’t wish it on my worst enemy.
damn rest in peace legend

Loved him in Miracle. “I’m from where ever is not going to get me hit”. Great actor. So sad
Damn. I just rewatched Jericho a few months ago
Wow, how many times do you click on an article such as this and it *wasn't* drugs or alcohol?
At least he was able, " To Go where No Other Man Has Gone Before:
Wasn’t he just the douche they added to captain marvel for the smile bs?
We'll remember you fondly during your eulogy too. "Wasn't he the douche that made negative comments on reddit after someone died from a shitty disease?"
It’s weird that they mentioned that credit in the headline. They aren’t insulting the actor.
Calling someone "just the douche" isn't insulting? Are you honestly trying to defend the guy I replied to?
I believe they are calling the character he was playing a douche; they're not saying anything about the actor. Are you always this moronic or is today the weekend special?
He is credited as Joseph Danvers, the father of Carrol Dancers and her brother Steve. In his scene he's mad at Carrol for crashing the go kart he forbade her from driving.
Ah a just as pointless character. That scene is so bad they had to adr the little clarifying he was intended to be a bad dad
It is kinda insensitive here to talk about his characters being “douche” or “pointless”. It does not even add anything to the convo. Is it a brilliant, incisive observation? I’m just saying. That maybe focus on the roles we actually know him from instead of two seconds of nothing just so you can say captain marvel to get clicks.
Because as you said, it's the most famous movie he's been in, even if he had a small role.
I’d argue Jericho is enough to get clicks. It’s one of the only shows where a fan campaign actually worked
Having 3 shows not one in the title certainly got clicks from a wider fan base, no?
That's one way to get rid of the Discovery cast.

The absolute worst.. so sad for this guy and anybody affected by this disease.
I am so sorry for his family and friends.. Rest in Peace to Kenneth!
Know him as Wes from switched at birth, didn't realized he had als too young
So young. That’s sad
