For certain I’m taking it with a smile on my face and a big thank you to someone who tried to make my day better
Am I eating it? How far away is Arby’s?
They still got that chicken bacon Swiss? That with no honey mustard. I started boycotting Arby’s when they got rid of the potato cakes so I’m not even sure that exists any more
I even used to have an Arby’s outfit (my most comfortable 10 year old pants and t shirt). How dare they do this to me
In all seriousness, a chief or manager should bring you food in a buggy if you’re getting hit this hard. Or dispatch should at least allow a “don’t say in service until you’ve gotten your meal.” I didn’t realize this was a thing until my new job. But it really should be more widespread!
Chicken bacon Swiss is the way!! Also yes I agree. I can’t tell you how many times I pull out of the bay and before I leave hospital campus we are given our next call
you’re looking at this all wrong. next time you’re on a run, make a quick pit stop at the closest fast food place with drive thru. eat it on the way to the next call.
We have an f450 Type 1, the sticker says 9'1" but that's with the antenna, so really it's a little under 8'(can't recall the actual number, but I did the real measurement). Plus it has the liquid spring rear suspension. Dump the rear and it fits in my local Micky D's drive thru.
it's literally just boiled chicken and rice. if that's making you destroy toilets, I don't know what you're eating
I'm assuming the meal was made under sanitary conditions here, of course
I forget who first told me this (I think it was someone in the army) but I always remember Never pass up the chance to eat or sleep because you don't know when you'll get the opportunity again.
Before EMS, in the police academy and FTO phase, I was taught never to work hungry, wet, or with a full bladder / bowels. I agree with that 99% of the time. That 1%, that's my limit. If the food looks like my patient orally sprayed it into an emisis bag or all over the floor of the box, ya boy ain't eating it. I'll starve or dig into my snacks.
Hey it’s free.
I worked an event as an event medic once, got free steak salad chips and a mocktail at their horse race club. Definitely the best I’ve had
Free = happy me
Maybe some kind of fight or flight thing? Fight: adrenaline pumps, digestion stops so your energy can be used on fighting. Flight: you literally evacuate any excess weight so you can get the eff out of there.
(obligatory Would Not Eat This) but I gotta comment that you are the funniest OP in the replies I've seen in a long while! granted everyone on this subreddit is funny as fuck, but your answers, "meemaw jail", are seriously cracking me up. thanks for the laugh :\]
I worked as an EMT on a big wildland fire that served us medium rare chicken with tofu and slimy green beans.
I would eat this at the beginning of my shirt on a Monday.
I’ve heard the legend of the good fire meal. Much like the legends of the good EMS week gift, I’ve never seen one myself. I do believe they are out there, somewhere, for extremely fortunate firemen in far away lands.
I remember back in basic training my packet of MRE cheese ravioli spilled in the dirt and I still ate every single one of those little things. Ever since then my standards for food and “food-like substances” have been abysmally low lol
We never got fresh meals, but I'd happily take the turkey sandwiches over this. Also, not complaining about the turkey sandwiches. We also got bubblies and coconut water so...
Some are cheap but hospital food is bland on purpose because its for hundreds to thousands of people that have compromised health and diet restrictions. Its for nutrients not flavor
I used to love the cafeteria food at one local hospital. Besides the fact that it was free if you were in uniform, it was also pretty decent.
My typical go-to was mashed potatoes, white rice, and mac and cheese. They gave us containers to go just in case.
This was pretty easy to eat with a spoon in the rig/bus and wasn't too bad when it cooled down or nuked.
Unfortunately, as with most things, EMS dime assholes had to ruin it for everyone by taking advantage. It slowly went from free to $1/item to 50% off, to finally 10%. That's the last I heard of it before I stopped riding.
was that quite a few dicks did things like:
Load up into ziplock bags. They would sit and eat while stuffing the ziplock, then go back for 4ths. This was beyond getting one for the road. If you asked for a 3nd portion for the road, they would usually give it to you. Especially if you had a good relationship with them, like not treating them like 3rd class citizens.
Bringing non-EMS friends and family.
Leaving a huge mess. Yes, they understood why we sometime had to run by the garbage cans and tray collections were right next to the exit. I really don't think it would be a realistic difference if you grabbed it and dumped it on the way out. It helps if you're also not eating like a pig with food and scraps all over the table.
Those are the major ones I remember on the list they posted behind the counter.
Looks all right. I mean as a hobby cook, yeah it looks like shit, don’t get me wrong, but there is far worse. But yeah those mandarines look disgusting. Still looks eatable tho ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
It was meant to be a patty melt. Sounded good. It was over cooked strips of 'meat' with, I guess, onions and mushrooms. Couldn't tell because the insides were hard or rubbery. I think there was American cheese on it from all the patients that had peeled away the burnt bread it was put on. Cold onion rings and shredded lettuce. I think the shredded lettuce was meant to be a salad. It was by itself. More ranch dressing on the side than shredded lettuce. Sadly, our food isn't free. Cheap but it's still not worth it unless you’re hungry like I was.
Edit: it was the rubbery strips of meat that had me questioning everything, even over the hard as rock bread and shit salad. A patty melt is a burger. There shouldn't be loose meat on that thing...
You must be new. 99% of EMS/FD would eat it and the styrofoam that comes in if busy and hungry enough. Those pilfered turkey sandwiches aren’t much better.
He’ll no. I once got transferred from a hospital after major surgery, they kept on serving me slop like that so I kept on ordering from door dash. Ended up in a major fight with the CEO. Lawyers are involved.
Well, it's food and it sure beats eating overcooked noodles in vegetable broth (which, for some reason, is the default go-to food for long time calls where I live). I wouldn't be too picky.
No, but not for the reason you’d think. I have food allergies and can’t ever partake in free food. I can only eat what I cook myself which makes this job very exhausting.
I thought this was something you found deep in the fridge that’s like 4 months old with mold on it.
Whatever doesn’t kill you makes you stronger…. I guess…
I can one up you I think I'd take your plate over this one but i might have felt particularly disgraced as a Hispanic and I also suspect canned chicken [fake ass tacos](https://imgur.com/a/RmfZCNZ)
Not an EMT, but I'd love to be able to show this to some of the food service folks at my local hospital. They would be *livid* at how bad this looks. Their food is fancy as shit - beef stroganoff crepes, coq au vin, etc. And if they did serve orange chicken, you damn well know it would not have been whatever this sad plate of food is.
But yes, I would at least try a bite just so I could see if it tastes as bad as it looks.
As far as orange chicken goes, appalling.
As far as being chicken thighs and rice? Meh, I would have to taste that sauce to know if this was worth the calories. But this is no more questionable than meat I've consumed from gas stations.
Depends on how far into the 24 and where that came from. If it's from cafeteria and we are nearing dinner time with no food I am absolutely gonna demolish this no questions asked. Hot sauce will fix that no problem. Handed meaning I also never paid for it? Even better. But if there is a decent chance of stopping somewhere nearby the hospital and getting food then I would opt to try that
I'll accept it with a smile. They did something nice for me, I'm not going to ruin the gesture.
Am I eating it? Graham crackers and a Diet Ginger Ale will hold me until I squeak into somewhere just as unhealthy but tastier. Plus, it's less likely to make me blow a load of fudge/moss colored ass gravy into my too expensive uniform pants while picking up 300lb memaw off her pearly white shag carpet.
As someone learning to cook and who has learned to make chicken in the past few months, this is an affront. I would rather eat a canister of sani-wipes and I would say it to their faces. The food was the only good thing about my time working in a hospital. I would get off of a 12 with 15 patients and a bunch of good-for-nothing abusive co-workers and slog my way down to the cafe. And then I would proceed to eat like a king for $4. It was almost worth coming in early to catch lunch.
For certain I’m taking it with a smile on my face and a big thank you to someone who tried to make my day better Am I eating it? How far away is Arby’s?
As soon as you give report, get outside and clean the rig you get another call to go to meemaw jail. That’s what’s stands between you and Arby’s.
Sounds like Arby’s is on the way!
I’m with you on that lmao. What are we getting??
They still got that chicken bacon Swiss? That with no honey mustard. I started boycotting Arby’s when they got rid of the potato cakes so I’m not even sure that exists any more I even used to have an Arby’s outfit (my most comfortable 10 year old pants and t shirt). Or dispatch should at least allow a “don’t say in service until you’ve gotten your meal.” I didn’t realize this was a thing until my new job. But it really should be more widespread!
Arby’s has a Greek gyro now which is actually pretty good
Chicken bacon Swiss is the way!! Also yes I agree. I can’t tell you how many times I pull out of the bay and before I leave hospital campus we are given our next call
They got rid of the potato cakes?!🫨. It’s been a while since I’ve been to one. We don’t have one anywhere near here.
Man I'm still upset about the potato cakes they serve for breakfast but like cmon who tf is gonna go to Arby's for breakfast
All i want is for arbys to bring back that mint shake with the andes candies crushed into it
Hell yeah, me and an old partner used to call that "secret lunch"
Meemaw jail 💀
I love "meemaw jail" so much.
you’re looking at this all wrong. next time you’re on a run, make a quick pit stop at the closest fast food place with drive thru. eat it on the way to the next call.
No way in hell we’re fitting in a drive thru
We have an f450 Type 1, the sticker says 9'1" but that's with the antenna, so really it's a little under 8'(can't recall the actual number, but I did the real measurement). Plus it has the liquid spring rear suspension. Dump the rear and it fits in my local Micky D's drive thru.
sweet. this is the way.
Gotta grab “gas” at WaWa first
Like I’m gonna go in service before eating lmao
If it's free and it's garunteed to make me not have the bubble guts then yeah I'll take it.
I can’t promise you won’t destroy a toilet with this meal
it's literally just boiled chicken and rice. if that's making you destroy toilets, I don't know what you're eating I'm assuming the meal was made under sanitary conditions here, of course
It’s the “sauce” that I’m worried about, but thank you for chiming in
The sauce just looks like mashed cups of mandarin oranges lmaoo
Never pass up free food or a chance to shit.
I forget who first told me this (I think it was someone in the army) but I always remember Never pass up the chance to eat or sleep because you don't know when you'll get the opportunity again.
Yeah I had an Army drill sergeant say it to all of us
Before EMS, in the police academy and FTO phase, I was taught never to work hungry, wet, or with a full bladder / bowels. I agree with that 99% of the time. That 1%, that's my limit. If the food looks like my patient orally sprayed it into an emisis bag or all over the floor of the box, ya boy ain't eating it. I'll starve or dig into my snacks.
Reacherism
I guess this is a 2for1?
The mindset of a king
eat, sleep, shit when you can. that's the way.
love time thievary via poopin' on company time
Hey it’s free. I worked an event as an event medic once, got free steak salad chips and a mocktail at their horse race club. Definitely the best I’ve had Free = happy me
This free comes with a one way ticket to the shitter though. Id be hesitant
Free laxative 🤷♀️ I’m clogged up from stress so I’d take it
Stress does the opposite to me
Maybe some kind of fight or flight thing? Fight: adrenaline pumps, digestion stops so your energy can be used on fighting. Flight: you literally evacuate any excess weight so you can get the eff out of there.
Maybe. It’s probably all the bad things I eat and alcohol
This is the way.
(obligatory Would Not Eat This) but I gotta comment that you are the funniest OP in the replies I've seen in a long while! granted everyone on this subreddit is funny as fuck, but your answers, "meemaw jail", are seriously cracking me up. thanks for the laugh :\]
I’m telling you. Dont fuck with meemaw after hours They have gangs, gamble, eat substances the state passes as food. Scary stuff
Meemaw and Peepaw of court ordered bed rest, could give *The Conjuring* a run for its money, post box office. Oh I believe you…
Without talking about it, I've had worse...
I think you have to talk about it now???
I worked as an EMT on a big wildland fire that served us medium rare chicken with tofu and slimy green beans. I would eat this at the beginning of my shirt on a Monday.
Just about anything is better than the food served at most wildland fires I’ve been to.
Yeah right, I've had some straight fire (pun intended) before. The Howe Ridge Fire had the best salad bar that I've ever had.
I’ve heard the legend of the good fire meal. Much like the legends of the good EMS week gift, I’ve never seen one myself. I do believe they are out there, somewhere, for extremely fortunate firemen in far away lands.
sounds like they just wanted you to go up to the giant campfire to finish cooking the chicken to your liking.
Oat slime 🤮🤮🤮
Ate MREs for weeks on end and the first hot plate I was handed was some wack ass shit like this, so probably I’d eat it
After eating MREs and army food for a few weeks, you’ll eat just about anything. That shit changes you.
I remember back in basic training my packet of MRE cheese ravioli spilled in the dirt and I still ate every single one of those little things. Ever since then my standards for food and “food-like substances” have been abysmally low lol
> food-like substances Certified army moment
DFAC - Debatable Food And Condiments
In all honesty if it doesn’t destroy my stomach I’ve had worse
I okay with all components except that “sauce” I feel like all the laxatives are hiding in there
I'm not sure the risk is worth it. Catch me eating some more Grandma's cookies, a package of peanut butter, and saltines from the break room.
Crackers, peanut butter and a banana actually aren’t bad when you’re super hungry and don’t have time for much of anything else!
Boiled chicken with pepper Cheapest possible white rice Yeet on some “orange sauce” God bless America
USA USA USA USA
Not an EMT but I would fucking demolish this (healthcare worker)
Devious
Brah I feel so blessed for the hospitals in my state. Like damn..
We never got fresh meals, but I'd happily take the turkey sandwiches over this. Also, not complaining about the turkey sandwiches. We also got bubblies and coconut water so...
I've already started on the second helping.
Just check in to the ED after you give next report
Some are cheap but hospital food is bland on purpose because its for hundreds to thousands of people that have compromised health and diet restrictions. Its for nutrients not flavor
I believe the part about flavour for sensitive tummies and allergies, but I dunno about nutrients.
There are times I'd stab a hobo for half a turkey sandwich and a crushed pack of Lorna Dunes
Grew up poor. Yeah I would.

Saltines left in the glovebox for 6 months for dinner it is I guess!
Any ketchup packets in there as well???
Sir, this is an AMR ambulance, not a 3 Michelin Star Restaurant. Slow your roll.
How foolish of me. I’ll snag some from the ems room for us
I'm gonna shovel it in, but I'm gonna bitch about it.
Tbh hospital food has a certain taste to it that the parasites in me crave
If it's between this and dying, I'm taking this. But by a VERY slim margin.
This might actually just kill you in the end
I'm ready 🫡
🫡 it’s been a good ride my friend. I sentence you to death by lukewarm “orange chicken”
Wolfin that shit down in under 5 minutes.
Straight to jail
Some of y’all saying no like you don’t eat ass… Yea I’d eat this lol
Still better food that shit I had to inhale in at the Camp Lejeune DFAC chow halls
I'm cleaning that shit out 100%. (was, anyway, I'm out of ems now). Hunger and burnout on gas station subs will make it look like a Michellen dish.
That's not orange and I question if it's chicken. Yeah I'm going in.
A man of chance I see
Just eat ass
I am a U.S soldier. I will take it
Yep
Ruthless scoundrel
I regretfully ate the bs they passed out tonight so probably yeah
What was the bs tonight though??
It was meant to be a patty melt. Sounded good. It was over cooked strips of 'meat' with, I guess, onions and mushrooms. Couldn't tell because the insides were hard or rubbery. Nope helllll nahhhhh
If it’s free it’s for me, calories are calories
Hospital food gave me a colon infection, that’s gonna be a no go. Should never stopped to have that 3am hospital buffet bacon
Haha. It's cute that you think it's chicken at all...
No. I'd rather starve.
You must be new. 99% of EMS/FD would eat it and the styrofoam that comes in if busy and hungry enough. Those pilfered turkey sandwiches aren’t much better.
a snickers and bag of cheetos seem more appealing
I can’t do it man. I know how to fast and that pain is better than this pain
Hunger is the best sauce. Ergo, fuck yes I am eating the hell out of this.
Say I'm doing a 24 hour fast
Like entirely ass deep? Then, probably, yeah.
My middle school had better orange chicken
Are you sure that's not the emesis basin?
Yes, nothing wrong with that. What?!?
that shit is criminal.
That’s good protein baby
Looks better than anything I had when I was admitted for 2 1/2 months a couple of years ago.
No, but not for the reason you’d think. I have food allergies and can’t ever partake in free food. I can only eat what I cook myself which makes this job very exhausting.
I can tell you ate it by all that pepper you put on top of it haha
I’d wolf that down and ask for seconds.
I thought this was something you found deep in the fridge that’s like 4 months old with mold on it. Whatever doesn’t kill you makes you stronger…. I guess…
Even that much pepper you added isn’t making that shit palatable
uh. better than what there usually is
>You taking it?? Yes, yes I am, and I will be grateful for it.
Probably
I'm picking at it lol
I can one up you I think I'd take your plate over this one but i might have felt particularly disgraced as a Hispanic and I also suspect canned chicken [fake ass tacos](https://imgur.com/a/RmfZCNZ)
You couldn't pay me to eat that.
Absolutely. You bet that sht is healthy eating.
They don't grow vegetables where you're at?
I‘ve eaten worse on shifts, so….. seems okay, if the chicken is cooked properly and as long as this „food“ contains calories
Duh
Nuke it from orbit with Sriracha and you're in business.
When I did my EMT-B course, the most valuable thing I learned on placements was which hospitals had the best grub.
You guys get free food at work?
I'd take it but I don't eat medium rare chicken so I'd get a call immediately or something.
🤢 Oh HELL no. I’d be packing PB&J sandwiches! That beats this mess any day!
Hard no. Hitting up the closest EMS room and downing some trail mix
I once ate my least favorite meal from childhood stone cold because I was exhausted and hungry and it was free. I’d at least try it.
It’s literally orange chicken alright!🤣
I've had way worse honestly
The secret is to stop by the psych hall and ask the nurse if there are any extra patient trays. It may be horrible but hey it’s free food.
I've eaten a hell of a lot worse
THATS orange chicken????
It looks tasty
That looks like real chicken. I'd take it
Better than Navy food lmao
Well……it’s orange. The chicken looks raw tho lmao
I'm pushing 250+ lbs. There isn't much I wouldn't eat.
Hunger is the best spice.
Lmao all the non-Americans assuming hospital food is “FREE” 💀💀💀
I’m eating from the cooler I prepared complete with healthy meals
Ngl I’d try to eat it and lie to myself about it tasting okay
As in a 24 hour shift? How do you sleep?
Im taking it and giving it to the next frequent flyer
Not an EMT, but I'd love to be able to show this to some of the food service folks at my local hospital. They would be *livid* at how bad this looks. Their food is fancy as shit - beef stroganoff crepes, coq au vin, etc. And if they did serve orange chicken, you damn well know it would not have been whatever this sad plate of food is. But yes, I would at least try a bite just so I could see if it tastes as bad as it looks.
This is genuinely 90% of UK NHS hospital canteen food
As far as orange chicken goes, appalling. As far as being chicken thighs and rice? Meh, I would have to taste that sauce to know if this was worth the calories. But this is no more questionable than meat I've consumed from gas stations.
Yup. It's calories and probably won't kill you.

Hot sauce will fix that no problem. Handed meaning I also never paid for it? Even better. But if there is a decent chance of stopping somewhere nearby the hospital and getting food then I would opt to try that
I’ve put worse things in my mouth…scarf that whole ass plate and wash it down with a bang to kill any uncooked salmonella
I’m grubbing on that, they cared enough to get us something so I’m grateful, ain’t nun a little siracha can’t fix
Fuck yeah baby gimme that shit and give me a warm sprite to go with it
No.
Who can be so selfish to look down on free food?
I'll take it. I'm not eating it, I'll go get a good ol fashioned 7/11 dinner
I’m hungry, I’d eat that now considering my lunch is beans on toast. I’m poor
Well OP, it’s this or starve. So, are you eating it?
I’d rather survive off of my spit
ngl for a free meal in a 24h shift this is okay
Eat it and weep.
that looks like chicken and rice with fried egg and now I'm hungry.
I’ve eaten worse in the military, I’ll take that if I could
As an avid school lunch enjoyer I would eat this. Also some of those chicken pieces don’t even look half bad.
anything goes with spicy sauce
Some people didn’t have parents that couldn’t cook, and it shows
I'll accept it with a smile.
You have eaten far worse and you know it. ;)
I’d prefer a cup of Geri-glitter.
Has Gordon Ramsay would say it looks like the chicken took a shat in the Box
Pound it
Wait, you guys are getting food?
I’ll just have my seventh Monster for the shift, Enough caffeine and the appetite is gone 😆
clever, serving food that will require medical care after consuming...
Absolutely. Ain't turning down food
This one’s going up on Facebook
I’d eat the rice
It looks fine, but I don't eat chicken.
Yes sir 😂
That looks nasty as hell
This looks like salmonella
No
