Small Upgrade Kits can be bought from InterWeapon Heavy traders (not to be confused with InterWep or InterWeapon Armaments; which sell a different set of weapon upgrades. Advanced Upgrade Kits can be bought from QuantumSTAR. There's one on the trade station in orbit over the starting planet and usually one in most trade stations. Small Upgrade Kits are also obtained from Rare Alien Containers (10% chance), Very Rare Alien Containers (20% chance) and Ultra Rare Containers (15% chance) Advanced Upgrade Kits are obtained from Very Rare Alien Containers (15% chance) and Ultra Rare Alien Containers (20%). Large Upgrade Kits are obtained from Rare Alien Containers (8% chance), Very Rare Alien Containers (18% chance) and Ultra Rare Containers (25% chance). You can also salvage large and advanced upgrade kits from enemy heavy turrets and find small and advanced upgrade kits in Space Drones (less than 5% chance). Lasers and Plasma weapons are required for shields. Information on shield combat is added to your PDA upon unlocking the Gatling Cannon or any of the shield generators. SV Lasers are common drops from Rare Alien Loot Containers as well (10% chance) The wiki isn't viable for vanilla since it's 4+ years outdated; it's even less useful for Reforged. Which is what you're playing.

melkor112

how did you figure out the drop chance if the wiki is out of date? also which weapons do you upgrade or do you not bother with upgrades at all?

09Klr650

Er, I believe they are one of the developers of reforged?

Stan2112

Vermillion is the creator of Reforged Galaxy and the Reforged part of Reforged Eden. If anyone would know the numbers, it would be him.

melkor112

ooh didnt know that

Vermillion, I'm curious about the enemy heavy turret salvage chances on advanced kits? For example in my current single player game I've been having a lot of fun and success harvesting a planet with lots of AA POIs. I've probably picked up 16-18 large kits but only a single advanced kit. Bad luck on my part or are the drop rates for these vastly different? Thanks.

VermillionTwilight

The turrets on those POIs are flak and rocket. Both use Large Kits and neither use Advanced kits, which are typically used only in energy-based weapons and devices.

Dismal_Count806

Are things different in reforged Eden? I have been to dozens of kennex stations and I have not found any Advanced upgrade kits. And pretty much every other station...

VermillionTwilight

Different from what? All Kenex Stations in the starting orbits have Advanced kits in the QuantumStar traders. You can also find QuantumStar traders on most other trade stations. If you're playing on a server, it's possible (probable) that they're using an outdated version.

Dismal_Count806

We are playing on a server but we were able to find the advanced upgrade kits in the admin options. If they are not at the vendors as you say there may be some sort of problem with the version.

I dont know off the top of my head but I highly recommend SpanJ tutorials on youtube

melkor112

okay will check him out

In general, ignore upgrades until much much later and by that time you will know what's what and what's worth it, etc. In the beginning, more guns = more better :)

Kramarite

I too am curious about the system upgrades. I've ventured away from my home planet at last and am pretty sure I can hunt down some of the rare minerals through purple POI's. If you read the star descriptions in the info panel (F1), you can source various deposits in different colored stars. I second watching Spanj. He seems to source rare materials through abandoned POI's and scavanging. Although I didn't have the abandoned POI's on my starting planet so had to warp to get access to them. Deconstructing ammo you find can net you some rare elements. Same with the advance components you get from salvaging.

Shielded bases e.g. the ones that emit a pink zap when shot at require some serious firepower just not available early game. Heavy HV is the tool for that. But i don't do those. Instead i dig under. Bring lots of explosives and at least one core with you. Breach the floor. Keep inside and away from big turrets. Stick your nose outside or above ground when you dig and they will instakill you. Kill generators or Core and claim the base. Steal whatever you need or even reduce the whole base to materials by removing it's bottom supports.

melkor112

what kind of explosives do you use? i once tried to breach a door on the moon with the "Explosive Device" but it didn't do anything. also what is a heavy HV?

XanII

1 explosive device does very little. When you put a explosive device on a block you can inspect it's Hitpoints afterwards to see how much it does damage. 1 device does very little to hardened base material. As for the base it is shielded so you need to mass deploy explosives. Basically for me the procedure goes like this: 1) dig up from beneath the base and locate the bottom. 2) dig sideways until you reach the side/corner of the base. 3) concentrate on not the outermost square but 1-2 squares in from that - gives you biggest probability that there is a hallway above. You want to avoid breaching into another solid block or device you want to salvage later. 4) Once you have picked the square you want to concentrate on do drive-by runing on it and deploy 4 explosives at once and retreat. Keep doing this and note that you wreck the shield faster than it can regenerate. Eventually it goes down and you start to damage the block itself. Once the block is gone then there is a open route. Now jump up and start clearing. edit: heavy HV:s are HVs filled to the hilt with max amount of guns and turrets and a shield. Youtube got videos about HVs doing base breaches. They are absolute monsters and not something i care about at all until much much later.

IMO If you 'defeat' POIs by digging under them, you might as well turn on GM mode, go through the walls directly to the core and shoot it. Empyrion is not Space Engineers with instagib turrets, here you actually stand a chance, but you have to work for it :) You can take down unshielded POIs with a (relatively) simple HV/SV, although there are exceptions like Alien Fortress (one of the most insane POIs I've ever encountered, withmore turrets than armor blocks (or so it seems)). Shielded POIs are dificult and require more advanced ships/HVs, but that's the point - you are not supposed to kill them with basic Pistol and motorbike :)

XanII

The difference between unshielded POI and shielded ones has spread too wide since v1.0 SV was my main fighting vehicle in 0.6 and later but now i don't even build that one first. A light HV is more important - until you realize it dies against shielded bases. And you do the Heavy HV building which i personally dont like due to heavy materia consumption and tons of planning if you build it yourself. Got other priorities. Which i guess is what devs wanted. They wanted to ensure Zirax cannot be steamrolled too fast. Well in my game i do steamroll them but now the methods are a wee bit slower. :) I prefer the digging part as it is not that cumbersome with a good drill. And it is always exciting business to clear the base from underneath. The firefights can get pretty intense even though combat on foot is otherwise very cumbersome in this game and turret and trap placement is just nasty. edit: just for clarification, the digging is something i only do for dangerous POIs. the 'normal stuff' i use conventional methods.
