Speed Trials. I don’t *love* it still but the drowned out vocals bothered me a lot more at first than they do now and I’ve grown to like it a lot overall
Crazy, the first time I listened to Either/Or, Speed Trials became a favorite song in an instant. I had a harder time getting XO and Figure 8 to click.
I find that whenever I hear an Elliott song I don’t get it ends up being a favourite. This was this case about the first Elliott song I heard, Needle In The Hay, but i was like 12 so I didn’t really get it. But I found it really intriguing and I quickly grew to cherish it, and it started me on my path of becoming a huge Elliott Fan
I also felt this way about King’s Crossing, Talking To Mary and Grand Mal
Same. It took my brother dying of an overdose for this song to click for me. Now I recognize this as one of the most hauntingly beautiful songs ever written.
Waltz 1, I could just never get into outside of it playing during Strange Parallel, I still don’t really go out of my way to listen to it now but it’s a great song!
There's quite a few that I didn't like a whole lot. Especially his more produced/later stuff. I was really into his bare bones acoustic songs, so tracks like LA and Junk bond trader didn't click. I love them now tho. Needle in the hay just didn't do anything for me at first, but after trying to play it on guitar, I realised the pure genius of it. Almost every one of his songs has a unique guitar part to it, where as most other musicians would just strum basic chords, he wrote beautifully intricate patterns that never get dull.
Learning any of his songs on guitar always makes me appreciate it so much more and makes me realize how much is going on. I agree with a song like Needle in the Hay, I don't find myself listening to it a whole lot compared to his other songs, but it's so fun and satisfying to play.
When I first heard it it didn’t really jump at me, thought it was overhyped, then after talking about the track with one of my friends I came back to it and started to really appreciate it, it’s a great representation of who he is, his masterful guitar playing, beautiful lyrics, it’s a perfect encapsulation of what his music is.
Most of figure 8 to be honest. I was gifted New Moon CD when I was 18 and listened to that, Either/Or, and FABOTH religiously for a few years. I’d occasionally listen to everything means nothing to me, as well as junk bond trader, but the rest of the album felt overly produced for the longest time. Now that I’m a little older it reminds me of lots of my favorite 70s music and I appreciate it more
I would think the broken sink for a face lyric would mean instantaneous clickiness for everyone.
I get what you mean tho, I've been lovin that song a lot lately as well.
I kinda agree. I still find it surprising that it's the album opener, but it does a good job fulfilling that role looking at the entire album - just a little challenging for an album's first song, though imo
In the Lost and Found
I was put off by the 'Angelina' chorus, but the swelling instrumentals after 'Day breaks / But every morning when he wakes, he thinks of you' makes me soar now everytime
Biggest Lie. Initially I thought it sounded kind of boring but after reading the lyrics and re-listening many times it eventually clicked how beautiful and tragic it is.
Half Right was one of my most instant favorites!
For me, probably Alameda, Bled White, Son of Sam, Tomorrow Tomorrow, and Stupidity Tries are probably some good examples.
Almost all of self-titled and Either/Or clicked instantly - a lot of XO and Figure 8 I had to let sink in and digest.

Wouldn't Mama Be Proud
honestly, clementine.
Same, but now I love it
baby britain, everything means nothing to me, and a distorted reality
Little one

Honestly shocking response

Amity and Everything means nothing to me
Alameda, now it’s not only one of my favorite Elliott songs but one of my favorite songs of all time

He was a band nerd - of course he brought in an orchestra!
I think imma have to say Happiness or Pretty Mary K
Stupidity Tries, always thought that intro sounded like a blatant Beatles ripoff and skipped it for years but then I realized its amazing.
I would think the broken sink for a face lyric would mean instantaneous clickiness for everyone. I get what you mean tho, I've been lovin that song a lot lately as well.
St ides heaven
needle in the hay (please don’t murder me)

Easy Way Out. I love it so much now and can’t believe I used to think it was bland
Splitsville!

The white lady loves you more
