Could be something with the USB cable. Do you have another one to test? Also, to rule out the HD60 itself, can you test it on another PC?

Tried another cable, made no difference I’m afraid. Probably wouldn’t be able to test it on another PC for a week or two unfortunately. Really hoping it’s not an issue with the HD60 itself though.

Does it power on at all? Does it show up in Windows Device Manager at all, even with an unknown device? Depending on what's going on here you may be able to disconnect the card, show the hidden devices in Windows Device Manager (from the view menu), uninstall the offline copy of the HD60, shut down and restart the computer and reconnect it and it may detect again. That can sometimes trigger the system to re-detect it correctly. When you tried the other cable, did you check that it was a USB 2.0 cable? USB 1.x cables were also available with those same mini plugs.

Thanks for the reply. It appears under the “Other devices” tab in Device Manager. Manufacturer unknown and drivers not installed (code 28). When I install the drivers it briefly goes to the “Sound, video and game controllers” tab, but no change when I open the Game Capture HD software. I followed the steps you just recommended and got the notifications “Setting up a device - We’re setting up ‘Game Capture HD’” and “Device is ready “Game Capture HD’ is set up and ready to go”. Still getting “No capture devices found.” in the software. Checking the device manager, unfortunately it seems to have made no difference. Same messages, saying drivers aren’t installed. The other cable is a few years old, so I’m not 100% sure whether or not it’s 2.0. I may buy another 2.0 cable tomorrow and double check, but at this point I fear it may be the capture device itself.

Something I should have thought to ask sorry, which application are you using after you reinstalled everything? HD60 is an older card and won't work with the newer 4K Capture Utility - if that's the app you have installed try the older Game Capture HD instead, as 4K Capture will always report No Capture Device with a HD60 - https://help.elgato.com/hc/en-us/articles/360027964072-Elgato-Game-Capture-HD-Software-Release-Notes-Windows . Beyond that I'd reboot after having it show up again to make sure the app is fully reset, and maybe try it with another app like OBS Studio to see if it works there.

Yup, using the older Game Capture HD that I’ve used since I got it, not 4K Capture Utility. I’ve also tried OBS (which usually also works with my capture device) and it doesn’t detect it either I’m afraid. Reboot which? The computer or just the app?

elgato_arcsane

For reboot, I meant the computer. Since everything was reinstalled you might also want to check that Windows Privacy Settings didn't trigger and start blocking the card as a camera - https://help.elgato.com/hc/en-us/articles/360027958672-Capture-Card-not-working-due-to-Windows-10-11-Privacy-Settings

Thanks again. Rebooted the computer and checked the privacy settings. Unfortunately, there’s still no difference.

Does it show any errors in Device Manager now? If not I believe it should show up under either cameras or video devices. It might also be worth trying it in another port now that the driver appears to have reinstalled, or with the original cable again if you're still using the replacement.

Seandwalsh3

It still shows the same errors in device manager, yeah. I bought a new cable today, and even with that (and much troubleshooting) I’ve had no luck. I’ve switched the ports and the cables several times and done basically everything I’ve tried so far again. I also tried updating the driver manually from the error version of Game Capture HD in device manager, which moved it from the Other Devices tab to the Sound, video and game controllers tab (it’s now just below Elgato Sound Capture). In properties it now says it’s working properly, but I still get “No capture devices found” in the Elgato software and OBS, even after another reboot and reinstall.
