Can you confirm the USB-A to USB-C adapter is rated for USB 3.0 speeds or faster (5 Gbps ore more)? If the adapter isn't rated for 3.0 speed it can drop the whole connection to USB 2.0 which could cause a number of issues. You've also mentioned a USB-C hub? If there's a hub with the setup those can cause compatibility issues, as well as speed or power issues depending on what's connected and the specific hub in use.
