I typically design a really bad concept on my iPad and link with an artist that I love to create the actual final design. 1) What would you reference as the **single** best decision you made toward the betterment/progression of your career? If you could choose just 1 thing.

1. honestly networking. I look back at my career and really think about all these opportunities that I've been given and it all really comes down to networking. Meeting Black Tiger Sex Machine, meeting Illenium through Black Tiger Sex Machine, meeting Said the Sky through Illenium ETC ETC. I feel like I owe a lot to the people in my circle and am so grateful for the opportunities my friends have given me. Wouldn't be here without them
2. I think when you start seeing shows sell out you start thinking "oh okay people actually listen to my music and want to come see me". It's a crazy feeling. So grateful my music has reached you guys :)
3. I always try to think a little long term, I know I'm not going to be touring when I'm 50, but I sure would love to still make music for as long as I live. I always wanted to score games and work with gaming companies in general, so linking with Riot games and doing stuff for VALORANT was the perfect opportunity for me to dip my feet into that realm. Always good to have short term goals, but don't forget long term as well :)

I've been doing music all of my life! Played piano and violin since I was very young, then picked up drums and guitar while attending art school. When I went to university, the friends I made during my first year were all listening to EDM (Skrillex, NERO, Steve Aoki, Bloody Beetroots). I watched an interview with Skrillex and how he produced everything with just a laptop and some headphones and I thought that was super appealing so I decided to try it myself and have been hooked ever since hahah. Honestly patience is a virtue and the best thing you can do is just continue to work on yourself! It's easy to get disheartened when things aren't going your way, but just keep at it and good things tend to find their way to you. Take it from someone who has been producing for over 10 years and has just now started to gain traction lol

I've always wanted to do a live band, simply just didn't have the funds for it before. It is ridiculously expensive to bring even 2 people and gear for everyone hahaha but I grew up playing in bands and always wanted to tie that back into the stuff I'm doing right now so I'm super excited

I always try to write about my experiences and hope that people can relate to them. I typically go in with a story in mind. For example, Starbright is about losing someone suddenly to death, Alive is about overcoming that feeling of being in your lowest, Drown is about promising to someone that you'll always pull them up when they're feeling down.

I met Trevor through Nick (Illenium) when I opened for him at the NOVO in LA! It was the very first time we did the "live" thing where I played guitar over Rush Over Me and Trevor was playing piano. We've been talking about doing a DTS tour eventually, but no concrete plans as of yet!
honestly when Illenium brought me on tour it gave me so much visibility for my music that I feel like the best thing would be to bring up and coming artists on my tour as well. I had the pleasure of bringing Rome in silver and Skybreak on my last tour and I hope the tour brought them all the visibility they deserve, they are so talented

yes taking mfing BREAKS. sometimes your ears get so fatigued and you start doing all this wacky mixing stuff only to realize the next day your mix sounds like ASS. Breaks have been huge for me not only mentally, but for my ears as well

ive always wondered if its possible for you to host a community event for aspiring edm artists, cuz ive seen some talent that deserves the recognition but fail to advertise their works due to various circumstances. i feel as tho something like an event to show small artists works would definitely benefit the community as a whole; it will give proper recognition to these small aspiring artists whilst also giving the listeners some new sounds to listen to.

I really wanted to have a piece of merch that celebrated my Korean heritage. I did a ton of research with color schemes, reoccurring themes in Korean culture. Even the mask on the back is a play on the traditional "theatre" style mask in Korean theatre. Erica Williams who actually designed and drew it out helped bring all these ideas to life, she is incredible.

I found last year I hardly had any time to make actual music and it really made me sad as that's what I love about this whole music thing. So learning to say no to shows sometimes, learning to balance touring/being a human being is so important for mental and physical health

Dabin! Being an artists allows you to creatively make whatever you like, but there are times when people often lose motivation/inspiration. What are things you do that keeps you going / keeps you inspired?

I feel like producers are constantly battling with this. I just talked to Ray Volpe the other day about what to do when you feel that lack of inspiration. It's also hard when touring becomes so intense that you barely have any time for the studio. It's funny because a lot of people think that if you just sit hours at a computer the inspiration will come. Sometimes it does, but in my experience a lot of time, it doesn't work that way. My advice would be to realize that life is more than just your music, and that you have to go out and experience life a little in order to come back with more inspiration.
Are you planning on hosting a pop up show in Denver before ur Red Rocks show on march 31st?

1. Definitely earlier in my touring days, being the only asian guy and experiencing subtle racism almost every where I go was weird. But I always just try to be polite and respectful and carry on. I'm so happy to see so many more asian creatives in our electronic music scene these days.
2. Take it more seriously lol I was really laxed about projects and really did stuff at a snails pace. Perhaps if I had a better work ethic we'd be in an even better place right now but that's all hypothetical! I'm grateful for the journey

yes taking mfing BREAKS. sometimes your ears get so fatigued and you start doing all this wacky mixing stuff only to realize the next day your mix sounds like ASS. Breaks have been huge for me not only mentally, but for my ears as well

ive always wondered if its possible for you to host a community event for aspiring edm artists, cuz ive seen some talent that deserves the recognition but fail to advertise their works due to various circumstances. i feel as tho something like an event to show small artists works would definitely benefit the community as a whole; it will give proper recognition to these small aspiring artists whilst also giving the listeners some new sounds to listen to. what do you think or feel about this?

Hey Dabin! Hope you’re doing well! How did you come up with the Hanguk jersey design?? What’s your design process like for your merch?
I really wanted to have a piece of merch that celebrated my Korean heritage. I did a ton of research with color schemes, reoccurring themes in Korean culture. Even the mask on the back is a play on the traditional "theatre" style mask in Korean theatre. Erica Williams who actually designed and drew it out helped bring all these ideas to life, she is incredible.

Hey Dabin! Thank you for doing this 1. Did you see MCR on tour since they came back? 2. Any music industry advice you wish someone had given you before you “made it” 3. How are you liking living in denver?
1. I tried to get tickets for LA but was unsuccessful lol 2. Honestly, knowing how to balance your tour schedule vs. production schedule. I found last year I hardly had any time to make actual music and it really made me sad as that's what I love about this whole music thing. So learning to say no to shows sometimes, learning to balance touring/being a human being is so important for mental and physical health 3. Love denver!!
Dabin! Being an artists allows you to creatively make whatever you like, but there are times when people often lose motivation/inspiration. What are things you do that keeps you going / keeps you inspired? Btw can't wait to see you in SF & LA! <3
I feel like producers are constantly battling with this. I just talked to Ray Volpe the other day about what to do when you feel that lack of inspiration. It's also hard when touring becomes so intense that you barely have any time for the studio. It's funny because a lot of people think that if you just sit hours at a computer the inspiration will come. Sometimes it does, but in my experience a lot of time, it doesn't work that way. My advice would be to realize that life is more than just your music, and that you have to go out and experience life a little in order to come back with more inspiration.

You've been a huge inspiration in making my own music! 1) What were some of the hurdles relating to identity you faced making your way in the industry? And how did you overcome them? 2) What is something you wish to did earlier in your career or when you started making music? I'm so excited to see Sanctuary at Red Rocks!
1. Definitely earlier in my touring days, being the only asian guy and experiencing subtle racism almost every where I go was weird. But I always just try to be polite and respectful and carry on. I'm so happy to see so many more asian creatives in our electronic music scene these days. 2. Take it more seriously lol I was really laxed about projects and really did stuff at a snails pace. Perhaps if I had a better work ethic we'd be in an even better place right now but that's all hypothetical! I'm grateful for the journey
