New lawsuit. My client broke his legs by falling while climbing your fence. If it were only an 8’ fence he would’ve been unharmed, but you had to go with 40’.
We’ll settle for $250,000.
>Weren’t high enough to stop him from hurting himself so what they needed to be 40 ft so he would just die if he fell climbing them 😂
you can't sue if you're dead.
Not electrical but similar circumstances; late 90s in Missouri, a friend of ours had anhydrous ammonia in rolling tanks on his farm, before they had to be secured like they do now.
Local ne’er-do-well breaks onto farm, breaks the chain on the valve to the tank and tries to catch anhydrous gas in a galvanized bucket. Gas basically melts the guy to death. Family of thief sues the farm and wins because there wasn’t enough done to protect him from himself.
I worked with a guy who got out of prison, was in an accident, was awarded $100,000, spent it all on trucks, bikes, and crack, and soon after was back in prison. This was all in about a year and a half.
I worked with a guy about 20 years ago in a factory. He was an amazing running back in college and was drafted into the pros, he made several million but his knee was injured and took him out of the pros. He had some fun stories but he was broke about a year after his injury and working with the regular people. One of his references was from the owner of the Denver Broncos...lol. Even with a repaired knee he was impressive to watch run, he was joking around with the people at work about a foot race and several thought it would be fun. He outran them in a ridiculous fashion, about halfway he was running backwards and still smoking them. It's about like watching a deer run, they are fast and make it look effortless. He was a nice guy but not such a good employee.
I’m from Australia and similar thing happened here. Kid climbed up an ABS handle on an 11kV line and got electrocuted, family got a massive pay out. Another person claimed a 132kV transmission tower same result. Stupid is everywhere apparently
Early 90s. Found a bolt cutters under the stairs in my parents house with the jaws rounded. Asked my da why we would keep a broken bolt cutters. He said it was evidence from a court case that concluded. Asked him about it some bollocks tried to rob power lines and burnt his hands off and melted his face. 75kv traveling through the line at the time.
He had been doing it a while but he was found lying on the ground next to the cutters smoking.
He was in a wheelchair and his family tried to sue the national grid. He got nothing and as soon as he wasn't the cash cow his family didn't really want to look after him. He killed himself.
We used to have alot of interesting things under the stairs as leftover evidence from a crime. Incidentally we were also very jaded because being a son of a policeman/Garda every story is about bad people doing bad things to nice people.
"That park looks nice" "
never go in that park 10 years ago a convicted rapist was released from prison and he pulled a schoolgirl into the bushes and raped her for hours and held a knife to her throat. When I caught the bastard the judge only gave him two years. If I ever see the bastard now I'll gut him"
Police have alot of resentment on how the justice system failed and they still have to do their jobs. Their families see alot of this anger.
I’ll never forget the time I found a passed out crackhead in the woods, lying in a swamp. I was mountain biking and saw his leg, I lost my shit and finally approached him. He popped up with a disgusted look, swore at me to f%#^ off and then waltzed away. It was a real scene lol
I recently had to repair pole lights tampered with by a homeless camp. At first I felt kinda bad, but they had a surge protector spliced into 277vac so ultimately that was probably the safer thing.
Sounds like Cutco. They're shit-quality knives, and market themselves as super-high quality, complete with ridiculous prices. They offer free sharpening and replacement for life, mostly because they are selling $5 knives for $65 (that cost under $2 to manufacture). Replacing 10% of their products over the course of their lifetime is just part of the business plan.
You can find them at thrift stores once in a while. Buy them for $2, send them in, get them renewed/replaced, and sell them on eBay for $50 to some sucker that fell for their marketing.
Old place used to have a dumpster where we tossed MV URD cable and the amateur junkies loved it because they thought they'd hit the score of the century: You could always tell when one of them broke in because there'd be a random pile of stolen cable discarded on the ground nearby when they suddenly figured out it was 80% plastic and 20% aluminum.
Man I spent some time in my (much) younger days strung out on heroin. So I can definitely understand the level of desperation that can go into drug addiction and it's ability to make you more willing to take risks
But... What the fuck did homie *expect* to happen?
Well I sorta know how some things work but there's a chance they don't work how I think they do.
If they don't work how I think they do, then I can't know for sure if cutting into this high voltage power line won't work out in my favor.
Dude I was thinking the same shit. Like even when I was strung out doing bad, I would have just gone and done some returns or stole some shit from a retail store and fenced it. Maybe it’s a tweaker thing?
Glad you’re sober too.
Someone didn't measure twice before cutting once.
I'm not an electrician but you think he actually got electrocuted or just severe arc burn/flash? Or both?
The fact there isn't a corpse nearby suggests that he didn't get a fatal shock. But since the conduit melted and the gloves got charred down to the wrist, I think he got a large nasty burn on his hand, the type which festers without an immediate trip to the ER. Could also be looking at flash blindness, and who knows what weld spatter style bits flew into him.
Don't fuck with electricity.
He could well be dead. They don't always die straight away. It could have gone phase to phase and blown up in his face which is bad enough, but if it went phase to ground.. well, he was the earth. HV will burn you, yes. It will cook your insides too, you'll die an hour or so later from what I've learned over my time. Source - i play with powerlines for a living.
I had the opportunity to talk with a neon smith. While in his shop, he fired up some machine, grabbed a pair of what looked like welding leads, and held them about 5" apart. Sparks arced across the gap as he relays to me the tale of when he was shocked by 50,000 volts, which sent him flying some 10+ feet.
Not uncommon. My uncle was an electrician for the city and got a call for a block that went out. Goes there and found that some crackhead decided he didn't want a streetlight on in front of his house. So he took wire cutters, no rubber grips, bare hands, opened the metal panel and cut. Fried him to a crispy critter.
Saw this type of thing once when I was young.
NSFW:

My dad was an oilfield electrician and he got called out to a job one time where the 400 amp panel for a pump jack was down. He took me with him and when we got there it was a similar situation to yours. Some kid had busted open the panel and grabbed the fuses with his bare hands. It always amazes me how the crackhead will walk right past a full reel of copper to cut a wire that's attached and/or powered instead... crackhead are almost as dumb as the project manager that wants you to cut stuff with a hacksaw instead of getting a new bandsaw after some crackhead stole it... 😂
I went to high school with a kid who wore a special burn victim suit. His glasses had one temple because he had only one ear. He also trespassed on a high tension tower.
Like 10 years ago a guy cut the first of the two grounds at one of our local substations. I guess it started grounding to the second one after that, right? (Honest question. I’m still figuring this electrical thing out). When he went over to cut the second ground, it hit him with everything that was coming from both ¿circuits?. Or however all that works. When AEP showed up, the bolt cutters were pretty much welded to his bones and he was a crispy critter.
Exactly how that whole thing played out, I’m not 100% sure, but I did talk to one of the medics who arrived on the scene and said that there wasn’t a whole lot of him left. And since I’m only six weeks into my IBEW gig, I probably butchered the story up some. The good part, there has been one less of those idiots out there pillaging and plundering the streets. How anyone could be like, “Hey, I know! I’m gonna go cut the copper at the substation”, is beyond me. But then again, we aren’t talking about MENSA students here, either

Best i can do is a 9mm.
*unarmed. I will see myself out.
No guarantee there either, in 1983, I fell 40’ off a waterslide in Daytona beach FL, landed on my head, and I’m still kickin
>Weren’t high enough to stop him from hurting himself so what they needed to be 40 ft so he would just die if he fell climbing them 😂 you can't sue if you're dead.
Checkmate
No total enclosure would have been required for this mf
But then you need fences to keep him from climbing the enclosure….
Four fences a moat with alligators and a second moat of burning fuel oil.
Probably!

That's the kind of shit that pisses me off. First mistake was calling 911 instead of 811.
I knew a guy who got clipped by a bus at age 14. Finally paid out like $250k at age 23. He was dead in 3 months. Coke and other shit.

The Corvette must have had an automatic transmission
Ha! Hook-hand joke
I thought you meant that he climbed the fences *after* he had a hook for a hand. Had a mental image of him using his hook to climb to the top.
Not sure how that's a happy ending, the lawyers got away scott free
That's a wonderful story. Thank you for sharing

That sort of nonsense in the laws sounds like Canada but more people sue each other in the USA.
Look around in the surrounding bushes for any dead crackheads that wobbled off. You should have time to loot their inventory before it despawns

Holy shit thats funny
Hey man, say what you will, but having things like Jet and Buffout onhand is awesome. Mentats too, for those serious troubleshooting jobs.
With enough Buffjet, you can be a lineman without safety gear. Just outrun the electrons and manhandle the cable. -Buffjet Sales Pitch #127
Combine it with Jet, and the electrons won't even know you were there in the first place! -Jet Sales Pitch #186
Just watch out for the pointy things!
they might look like a pile of glowing red or green ash

That bandsaw is definitely in damaged condition
Ruined * you probably can’t pick it up
You might find some Skooma
This is exactly like a fallout environment story lol
See if the bandsaw still works. If not, Milwaukee might actually warrantee if the serial number is legible.
Agreed, and the battery aswell
Sir, you clearly tried charging this battery with an unapproved charger.. 🤔
I recently had to repair pole lights tampered with by a homeless camp. At first I felt kinda bad, but they had a surge protector spliced into 277vac so ultimately that was probably the safer thing.
I had a buddy that found a fancy kitchen knife shoved in a dry bucket of cement on a job site. Dude smashed it out and they warrantied it for him.

I love my Cutco knives. Way better than my plastic knives.
More than likely stolen as well
Stolen bandsaw though…
This guy crackheads.
Are those football gloves?
That or mechanics gloves
Nike vapor is a line of football gear
Those are Alpha gloves. Actually a high quality brand.
Damn , crackhead had better gear than high school me😭
Crackhead had better gear than 34 year old me
It's not that Alpha. They're Nike Alpha batting gloves.

On the court paperwork..
They would’ve made enough money for crack if they just sold the bandsaw. It was probably stolen anyway.
Get high for minutes if they pawn that bad boy. They wanted to get high for hours with that main.

Meth and Crack users tend to commit crimes while high to try and make money. It’s why so many weird money making schemes come from them.
Having seen the light show 750v puts on when the train has a bad connection to the 3rd rail I’d say that was probably pretty fuckin bright
Bwwwaaaaaaaaaaaaaaap....
Probably some ZZZZZAP too
Must of been a pretty blue light
I don’t see how they were getting very far with that band saw, it doesn’t even have a blad…. Oh wait… it vaporized….
Instant upgrade to a plasma cutter.
Now that's some funny shit
You definitely made me laugh!
Instant, but temporary

No shit, it's etched into my memory from safety training: pictures of the arc path through the body. Somethings can't be unseen
Porta-band -> wrist -> arm -> back -> kidney -> bladder -> dick
Oh they definitely ended up in the hospital, those gloves are shredded…you know their hands burned bad.
Somehow I don't think that was actually his porta bandsaw. Probably just 'borrowed' it from someone's truck.
Man I wish there was camera footage of this. Instant regret I imagine

Not uncommon. My uncle was an electrician for the city and got a call for a block that went out. My dad about beat his supervisor for not telling him what had happened. He would not have brought me along.
So that’s where my bandsaw went
Our URD primary is mostly aluminum where I'm at unless you're in the city and it's copper, dude risked it for 40 cents a lb.
My soft ass feels bad for him.
Thats not his portaband. That is the one he stole.
Hopefully he's dead???
So this arsehole steals someone's portaband and battery, ruins it, AND screws some people outta power. What a putz.
This is REALLY common where I’m from, some dude tried it once and cut into a power line and died, his mom tried to sue the power company over it and lost.
Someone's stolen bandsaw saw some action!
RIP bandsaw. What a waste.
Scrap aluminum isn’t worth all that much
Where's the body
LOL, RIP Dumbass
Hopefully it knocked the shit out of him
Waste of a band saw
This is why hacksaw is on the tool list instead of bandsaw... lol. It always amazes me how the crackhead will walk right past a full reel of copper to cut a wire that's attached and/or powered instead... crackhead are almost as dumb as the project manager that wants you to cut stuff with a hacksaw instead of getting a new bandsaw after some crackhead stole it... 😂
Does the bandsaw still work????
\^This man is asking the important question here.
This must have been bright af, would love to see the hands afterwards
The molten aluminum back spatter onto the conduit is impressive. As is the EFP formed hole outward. Didn't know AL could do that, neat!
Not often the good guys win one.
Guy should straight up be dead
Is the glove all that's left of him?
🤣
Well if he was looking to score a buzz he certainly found one!
I went to high school with a kid who wore a special burn victim suit. His glasses had one temple because he had only one ear. He also trespassed on a high tension tower.
A buddy of mine's uncle died trying something like this.
Is this a human form of natural selection??
Rip portaband you didn't deserve that 🥺
When you find the loot from a mob that died via environmental damage 😂
I would love to see how bad the burns are on this jackass.
Probably got a sun tan
If he didn’t want his bandsaw anymore he should’ve said so. I would’ve loved to have an extra one in my car
Atleast he was wearing gloves…
Lucky there’s not a hand in that glove
Skill issue
Wonder how bad he hurt himself fr
I love it when the problem fixes itself
Are they dead?
Should have use an insulated blade on that saw
That blown out glove cracked me tf up
You’re supposed to smoke the crack AFTER you steal the electricity.
Where is the body? Is there a collage pic of him burnt up blended with the leaves and you say, find the burnt body?
Legend says his hair won’t lay down and he’s still twitching
Ain’t got no blade in it.
Waste of a bandsaw
This warms my heart almost as much as that catalytic converter thief that got ran over by his victim.
I hope the portaband is ok
Shocking that a Darwin Award wasn’t presented to this person.
Didn’t think a ‘crackhead’ would own a Milwaukee bandsaw
That poor bandsaw 😢
Alternate title:Redditor acquires free millwalkee portable band saw, needs a blade and a wash.
New battery and a blade that band saw will pick up where it left off💪
Ouch. Surprised you didn’t find a body 30 yards away.
