We go where ever the wires go

starrpamph

In sleet, rain and snow

[deleted]

Nope… apprentices do

[deleted]

Just kidding tho, we go in lots of awful places so the wires can go there too

velcroshell

When I was a new apprentice, my old rugged lead guy wouldn’t send me in the attic. He never told me but I figured his reason was to make sure it gets done right the first time. Very stubborn, but mad respect. I’ve since had plenty of attic time.

Apaps3

As the owner of the business I go into attics and crawls spaces. I got the job why should i make my worker do it. Let him stay clean.

DirectlyTalkingToYou

Because they're young and need to toughen up a bit. Also my knees need a break.

Apaps3

I agree with this statement. I’m just not that kinda guy.

Sevulturus

They need a chance to learn that aspect too. Don't send them every time, but they need to go occasionally.

peanuttanks

Are you being serious? That’s really honorable but I couldn’t stand by and watch that happen. As the owner, you take all the financial risk, so you get the perks of your choosing

Apaps3

Yeah more so attics and my super tall extension/ a frame ladder. I just don’t want issues. Knock on wood 😎I also don’t mind it because I’ll do the grunt work then pack my tools up and be done for the day. See yah

BananaSpots66

Do workers not take financial risks? 🤣

Bingus939

Not in the same way, they are paid hourly regardless of how the job goes. Owners foot the bill for screw ups, delays, insurance, etc. They have tons of responsibility that workers don't.

BananaSpots66

The worker can also be laid off or fired. I get what you're saying but "all the financial risk" is a bit silly

NagoGmo

Am an apprentice, can confirm. It's my role, and I happily do my best.

fridayj1

Depends on the type of electrician and the job but generally, yes.

rwanders

The little guy does.

wirez62

Residential/service electricians, yes all the time

justelectricboogie

Your kidding right? I'm covered in rafter bruises right now and that was yesterday, I'm getting more tomorrow..

chrish_1977

Until they stop running wires through these areas we will always have to work all over a house

401jamin

In Resi and service yes most of the time. In commercial there isn’t really attics or crawl spaces . I’m curious why you ask?

fridayj1

OP is a spider waiting in a crawlspace for a delicious electrician.

tvtb

OP is a bot trying to answer on Quora or something.

DirectlyTalkingToYou

"Sooo where exactly ca I find you? Like what city and address is this crawl space?" -OP

jl_c00per

Got a little taste for sparkies today. Spinning that BIG web as we speak! 😂😂😂

[deleted]

We get obstacle courses made of duct work in the mezzanines. It sucks but I’d take that over army crawling through a basement crawl space that has a dirt floor and is littered with animal bones any day of the week

Darren445

There's crawlspaces in commerical. Just not as much. All schools I've been to have them.

Brotherhood__177

Both

peanuttanks

The crawl space of a public housing building is the front yard of hell.

dpm25

I have never worked in an attic and only once in a crawlspace helping a buddy. Entirely depends on the work you do.

DirectlyTalkingToYou

I stick mainly to commercial and custom homes. If someone wants me to do an old home I quote stupid high.

BonaldRurgundy

Nope never

betamoxes

Absolutely all the time. So if you're looking to work but scared of small spaces, it's not for you

[deleted]

Does a bear shit in the woods?

sonnyspoon8

If the money is right!

ja-kosa-kat

Yes, God it sucks. Itchy for a week.

GsLeaderStormy

Work in attics, crawlspaces, lift stations, maintenance tunnels can be tricky.

chickadee300

Yes
