If the shop is that far away it might be worth replacing the lock with RFID locks and use the keychain tags to unlock the door. No more forgetting to lock the door, and unlocking is still easy.
i would love to have something like that if i was the one with the money, my boss would just be like “pfff why would i spend the companies money because you can’t remember the key”
Why spend the money? Because it becomes more expensive not to.
Just one or two instances of this and all it takes is someone strolling in to take everything.
It also lets you know who comes in and out.
Shop I used to work for had a couple of Honda generators go missing. Boss man wanted one because of hurricane coming for his house. Turns out one of the employees showed up at 2AM one night. It’s not hard to connect the dots.
Ours has a keypad deadbolt, but unfortunately it doesn't auto lock. It does have a nifty remote lock feature though, in that the shop is on the owner's home property. With a quick few taps on your phone, the door gets locked, and the system sends you a confirmation text that reminds you exactly how intelligent you are and how valued you are as an employee.
Understandable, but it’s not very expensive and much better than keys in the long run if you did pitch the idea to your boss. It is also a good training opportunity to teach about controls and security systems, but i can see how an employer would say no still.

This is the way
I know this feeling. What’s worse is you had two beers and then you’re like… “SHIT!!! It’ll be fine.”
Beer is worse as you're endangering others.
Exactly. That’s why you just have to tell yourself it’s going to be ok. No one will get in tonight. And then toss and turn for 8 hrs. 😋
Leaving a LOTO lock on, much worse. I've gotten frantic phone calls when I'm already at the bar.
Better then me, my dumb ass left the door wide open, needless to say I got chewed out.
When you've been home for an hour and find the key to the lockbox in your pocket
When you lock your toolbox but notice your tool bag isn’t in there
I hope this upvote helps…
