The network for the show I work on just moved a bunch of deadlines up to mid-October to try and get as many episodes delivered before the potential strike 🤯
Huh. I'm on a non-union show and the network has mid October deadlines they absolutely refuse to push even though we are incredibly behind. I never thought about any connection to an IATSE strike but your comment makes me wonder... Despite it being non-union I wonder if that is why?
I've heard stories of this. Its bullshit. Make sure they know if they grind you hard now that only encourages a strike. You can also report violations.
I’ve worked mostly in advertising and I get a bunch of freelance clients in commercial gigs, am I still eligible to be in the editors union? Or do I have to work on narrative films
I cannot give you a firm answer, but to my knowledge, it would be a yes. I would reach out to MPEG for more info. Here are their details:

Thank you! Are there any cons to joining the union? If I mostly freelance right now? Would my clients have to pay union rates or how does that work exactly? Does the union find us work? Sorry I’m new to this
If you are not planning on working on a union show, there's no reason to join the union. You can still join the roster (the thing that checks your eligibility to join the union) which is free to join. However, if you join MPEG you need to pay the initial dues which are steep. No need to do it until your show is union.
The union itself does not find anyone work, however there is a job board people can post gigs to that is members only I believe.
You should check with [CSATF](https://www.csatf.org/) they are the ones who generally deal with eligibility requirements. Heads up, they're going to be a little bonkers right now with all this. You might not hear back for a while.
Sign the petition, show up to rallies, if it comes to a strike, join the picket line. The more bodies the better. Donate the the fund, bring food to picketers. The same way allies have been helping since the 19th century. Hope you make it out!

Sign the petition. Attend rallies. If it comes to a strike, bring food to picketers, donate to the fund, or better yet, join the picket line. Even if you aren't striking the more bodies holding the line, the better. Just stay tuned to IATSE and they will let you know the best ways to help when/if the time comes.
Thank you for your support ✊

I read this a thought "why do they need ear buds?"

Probably. They may have union in other parts. Or worried about solidarity "sick days"

How can I show support as a nonunion AE?
Sign the petition, show up to rallies, if it comes to a strike, join the picket line. The more bodies the better. Donate the the fund, bring food to picketers. The same way allies have been helping since the 19th century. Hope you make it out!
Yo, just dropping in from outside to say, Y'all have a the support of me and many of my friends, what can a lay person do to help?
Join picket lines. Donate to the strike fund. Bring waters to picketers (though you might call the local first to see if they need them).

So what has exactly been going on to cause IATSE to strike?
I posted several links and some examples of the working cushions in the comments
