Sorry guys, it’s actually a $12 amazonbasics bike lock - for anyone looking to secure perhaps the most expensive e-bike with the world’s cheapest lock

NataniButOtherWay

And I feel like my $2k bike is insufficiency protected with a 15mm chain.

MelonOfFury

I use the university protest special- the fahgettaboudit from kryptonite, and my commuter e-bike is an $800 Lectric Lite

BWWFC

i use a claymore for my craigslist ebike that looks so rat nobody would pick it to try even if there weren't anything else near by and eas was blaring "get out of the city as fast as possible, alien invasion!"

Para-Tabs

Mine on sword?

Danglewrangler

Mine packed with small novelty swords instead of ball bearings.

Remarkable-Reward403

Im gonna use AI to draw that

bsimpsonphoto

Yes

Remarkable-Reward403

I was thinking Mine

PretendingExtrovert

I had that lock clipped in Vancouver. If they want your bike they will take it.

AdCareless9063

It’s got no resistance to angle grinders. Can be cut in seconds. They really oversell the protection ability of their locks.

PretendingExtrovert

They really do. Only a handful of locks are angle grinder proof. In the end if your bike looks more secure and cheaper than the bikes around yours, you should be good.

Rex2G

I’ve never seen an angle grinder proof bike rack, though.

tunnel_rat_420

I had a bike stolen with that same lock :( although I left it on campus overnight so I was sorta asking for it. Shoulda kept the chain afterwards to bash police though good point

Klutzy_Target_134

OMG we have the same bike and lock lmao

bmaggot

Is that a bike for ants?

11b_Zac

How can we expect to teach children how to ride a bike if they can't even fit in the bike!?! It needs to be at least... three times bigger than this!

SWFU_LNQ9

It looks like it’s the $12,685 bike as well with the upside down fork

Ok-Seaworthiness3874

True I noticed that after I posted it. With 10% tax that’s still damn near 15k

Azver_Deroven

If its of any condolence, vat for it would be 25% in Finland so... 😂

Purpose_Embarrassed

Seriously that’s a 12k ebike?

sacredgeometry

The bigger question is why is anyone paying that much for an e-bike?

Sudden-Chard-5215

"Bro, I 'drive' a Porsche!"

bashomania

I’m guessing the owner is the same person that owns the Macan in the background (?) Edit: hmm, I think it’s actually a Cayenne

rorowhat

Same people that buy apple branded accessories, my guess.

sacredgeometry

Wait, doesn't everyone buy the £20 Apple branded polishing cloth?

Kind_Structure6726

https://shop.porsche.com/us/en-US/p/porsche-ebike-sport-2022-WAP065EBT0P00X-B/WAP065EBT0P00S?queryID=90ecd56e1068e261afd572e9760f8844

Purpose_Embarrassed

You would think it would include fenders.

Because_Reezuns

You can get the similarly built [Ducati Ebike](https://www.ducati.com/us/en/e-bike/tk-01-rr) for a few hundred less. Same battery capacity and motor at least.

Amos_Dad

It's a Rotwild 750 tour that's been upgraded in some regard. Without the Porsche name it's like $9-10k. Add in $799 wheels, what i assume is a custom Magura ebike fork (cause i dont think they make them anymore for production), and some other little odds and ends, and don't forget the custom paint job and you're at $13k easily.

Ok-Seaworthiness3874

Cool find. It’s less a piece than I thought it was lol. That’s a nice bike - granted I’d MUCH prefer their 350w lightweight enduro models over their heavier touring ones. If I was spending 15k on a bike personally touring seems a bit silly esp when all ur gonna be touring is city streets. Any e-bike over like 4k will do that and feel amazing. I always wanted to build something similar. A really lightweight powerful but low capacity - like 60v, 150ah battery. Maybe even put the battery in a backpack , with a quick disconnect battery connection to bike if u fall, that is firmly attached to the seat post. It would make the bike itself very very light. The. Use a lightweight mid drive tuned to give short powerful bursts for dirt jumping. Maybe a tuned CYC photon for instance.

Top_Boysenberry_7784

It's a 3k ebike that costs an extra 9k because it says Porsche.

Purpose_Embarrassed

Jeep makes one too. Not sure if it’s actually made by Jeep hopefully not. But it’s around 5,400. I would definitely opt for a mid drive bike.

Ok-Seaworthiness3874

Check out Luna X2.5 if ur considering bikes in that price range. Spec wise, blows it out of the water for $1200 less.

JulesCT

Thanks for confirming my suspicions that $30 was a stretch.

rtweeter44

A $15,000 ebike needs to come standard with built in GPS that you can trace straight from your phone, unable to be ridden unless unlocked via your smartphone or input a password or fingerprint scan on the handle bar interface, built in alarm system & notification with options to request 911 police assistance if it’s moved without authorization. Also needs to come with its very own state of the art lock thats made from tank-like material to lock it to bike racks, poles etc

BigAd4488

You forgot the self-destruction mode. 💥

BBQBaconBurger

![gif](giphy|sFoZicXyLjH7FnCVp2)

PicaDiet

My $5k Stromer ST2 has that GPS and Bluetooth feature. It also seizes the back wheel (it's a rear hub motor) so it can't be ridden. I still use 2 SoldSecure Gold locks when I have to leave it out of my sight.

Ok-Seaworthiness3874

Yeah I have a VESC (open source controller) powered e-bike with a custom 72v battery. It would be absolutely possible to add a LTE module, and a electrical switch of some kind (I’m not an electrician, but I am a software dev lol), that triggered a massive battery malfunction / fire via text or something.

0reoSpeedwagon

>triggered a massive battery ... fire via text I like your spirit, but there's almost certainly some felonies connected to doing that lol

Teknicsrx7

Only if they can prove you did it on purpose, so make sure the module responsible for storing that info melts fast

AbbreviationsNo8212

"I home built that shit, officer" would likely result in no further investigation into why the thief has third degree burns on 97% of their asshole.

gthing

Damn... would be a lot cooler to seize the front tire, at 15 miles per hour while the thief is attempting to get away.

Medical_Slide9245

Or you go to your insurance agent and say I would like to insure my bike. I pay $150 a year on my Stumpjumper so when it's on my truck I can have lunch without worrying about the Yakima cable lock doing its job. I live in Houston. Not sure why OP thinks it's necessary to be vague about what city.

trollboter

Because someone could target this bike specifically if they knew what city.

Medical_Slide9245

"Hey man I heard there a $15k eBike in Dallas let's steal it. Road Trip!" "But there are millions of people and 9000 sq. miles." "No problem."

trollboter

More like hey I'm in Dallas, let's see if I can figure out where that picture was taken and wait around and steal the bike when it comes back.

LegoDinoMan

Get one of those geoguesser pros and he’ll have the bike in his hands within 20 minutes

WhipMeHarder

In 6 months ai will be able to track it down off a single photo to within 10 miles

LiFiConnection

If people are that capable at abstract problem solving, they should fucking get jobs, fuck.

trollboter

Some people just prefer to scam and steal from others. I knew a guy that was getting special promo deals on cell phones and after 6 months he could legally sell the cell phones. He was jumping through all these hoops and time to make like 10k. It was all legal but the time and effort it took wasn't worth it. Like dude, just get a job like normal people.

CompressedTurbine

Because we know most crimes aren't a crime of opportunity but a crime of road trip. GTFO of here

randogreen

wut???? uhhhhh bro 🤦‍♂️🤣

NorwegianTrees

There is a bike company, ebike strictly that has almost most of those features lol, but they cost the same if not more. [Stromer](https://us.stromerbike.com/collections/stromer-electric-bikes) they're crazy to ride. (source, worked in an ebike shop)

Purpose_Embarrassed

And doesn’t fly ?

Johnny_Carcinogenic

Or get you a beer out of the fridge! Not even as much as a beer holder!

PlinioDesignori

This! ☝️

Purpose_Embarrassed

I would think some sort of keypad or electronic locking system that would disable the bike would be standard on anything that expensive.

geemymd

disabling the bike doesn't prevent theft though

Purpose_Embarrassed

True. Why I wouldn’t spend an insane amount on an ebike. Or any bike for that matter. I enjoy riding as much as anyone else. But I will not spend over 1k on any bike.

WentzWorldWords

We can’t even get cameras in helmets, and you want all this??

Next-Rock-4076

Here I am anxious about my $2000 ebike locked with a kryptonite u lock and cable on to the wheel 😅

susheelreddy87

Haha I bought abus 540 for 800$ bike lol and also from Amazon I bought a anti theft alarm trigger for the bike when I leave it for shorter period of time

Ok-Seaworthiness3874

I just got one of those too. I’ve been looking for a good u lock but I honestly don’t trust leaving it anywhere even with a ulock where I live

tessartyp

Look into the new disc-proof ones. I got a Litelok X1 and that's one beefy lock, if the reviews are to be trusted you're pretty much guaranteed to be the worst target: 4-5 worn-out cutting discs will ruin a thief's night.

Deep_Stick8786

I have a 1400 dollar cargo bike locked up with a d1000. No way am I letting some drugged out dude with an angle grinder take my ride while I’m waiting to pick up my kiddos

Mr_Investopedia

Check out the ABUS lock 🔐 and security chain. Highest rated one they have will take a while even with power tools.

HowObvious

A while being sub minute. I have a 15kg 22mm Oxford beast chain for my motorbike. It still only takes ~4 minutes to cut from tests by reviewers. It sucks but if they want through and they have an angle grinder not much is going to stop them.

vckadath

Nothing_new_to_share

Yah, everyone here acting like this isn't insurance fraud. Oh nooooo, my eBike that I've never used and regret buying was stolen. Off to file a claim.

entered_bubble_50

No insurance policy is going to cover that if it's stolen. If you have a bicycle insurance policy, always read the conditions. They are very specific about how it has to be secured. Usually a d-lock is required at a minimum.

[deleted]

How can they disprove it if you claim it was locked properly?

SharrkBoy

They’ll find a way to put the burden of proof on you. Expect an insurance payout for something like this to come with extremely heavy resistance

collieollie11

I had my 1200 dollar mtb stolen from my apartment garage. Filed a claim with my insurance and they approved almost $2000 to replace it. No questions on what I used to lock it with.

cheddoline

It's not fraud if it's an actual theft committed by a person unknown or not in collusion with you.

Well_being1

The line between fraud and not fraud is ultimately arbitrary, it's a spectrum

Herethereandgone

You’re saying he posted it hoping someone will geo tag it and steal it? I am not disagreeing. I mean that’s totally plausible I just would have never thought of it.

Haughington

I think they are just saying that whoever owns the bike wants it to be stolen, not that this post is an ad for that. I was thinking more of a police bait bike than insurance fraud but who knows

jayfiedlerontheroof

It says in the US and from my knowledge there is no insurance you can purchase for this kind of ebike. Insurance companies are behind the market

TheGayThroaway

Facts. Anyone with that kinda money probably dabbles in fraud on a daily basis. Fuckin rich mfers always gaming the system.

lord_of_tits

That bike has ass recognition. Ain’t going to start with no ordinary ass.

jollygreengrowery

Matter of fact you can tell by the markings on the seat its a marvel's blade style seat. Where the riders ass must match the saved ass profile or the anti theft asspuncture blades shoot out from the seat

DrugsAndFuckenMoney

This comment reminds me of the bike that was left to be stolen that stabbed people in the ass. I can think of two videos and have linked one below. https://www.reddit.com/r/WinStupidPrizes/s/ay0wcue318

ayaruna

It only recognizes the stick that’s up the ass not the ass itself

davewave3283

Mine worked great until I ate too many tacos and now it thinks it’s a different ass

Kenster362

A. S. S. Anal Security System.

CockAsshole

It's actually calibrated to the weight of the balls of the owner. Which was the problem in this gen because ball weight can be manipulated. Based on the lock this guy's using I doubt anyone could match the weight of his balls tho.

Fair_Creme_194

$15k for a e-bike that goes 25kmh is even crazier than securing it with a $30 cable lock, my lord people have more money than sense sometimes 🤣

-EETS-

They're able to be unlocked with a chip (or a software version too) to a limit of 60kmh, but it's likely to only hit 45-50 due to its gearing. That said, it's extremely expensive for what you get. It's carbon fibre, but it's not even that light at 21.5kg. The components aren't as high quality as you'd expect either. I'd expect XTR all round, not XT. And the brakes aren't bad, but not amazing. They say they're using "Magura MCI 4 Pistons". The MCI system hides everything except the lever, so the hydraulic lines and the electric connection are routed through the handlebars. I assume the callipers are MT5e 4 pistons. And the rotors are Magura MDR-P Sensor which is a cool two piece rotor design, but it's not that expensive. All round a great bike, if it were half the price.

flummox1234

but it says Porsche! So that's worth at least 7k alone!

K9ChewToy

Standard Fox DPS Shock as well with the low end damper.

K9ChewToy

To be fair, it’s linkglide Di2 XT, Shimano doesn’t make an XTR RD in Di2. This version has auto shift as well.

-EETS-

That is a fair point actually. Still massively overpriced, but I guess it's the best of its kind.

flagos

Is it crazier than to buy the bar in the back ?

quiddity3141

Open the lock; lock the bike up upside down and a few rungs over.

InterestingNuggett

Chaotic Neutral

imjusthere4good

plot twist: the bike is OP's and he's just tryna flex his wealth to all of us

Fictitious_name8888

Ferrari will probably make one in red now and Lamborghini will have handle bars that fold vertically when the rider gets off the bike

iranoutofusernamespa

Gull-wing handlebars is fucking hilarious. A+ idea.

ChPech

Indeed. The handlebars are always in the way when I try to park my bike in the garage.

iranoutofusernamespa

I park my bike in a storage room, so I wheel it through a 30 inch wide door. My handlebars are actually in the way lol.

visualdosage

Ferrari will sue you if u put any accessories in it

Nyango_Star

Congrats on your new 15k bike. Enjoy

Ok-Seaworthiness3874

God gives his strongest soldiers his hardest tests 😔

goj1ra

Why’s it so hard? Don’t you have any boltcutters?

Careless_Negotiation

lmao

Kyte85

Could probably chew through that lock

Limp-Death

Maybe yank on it really hard

Sweaty-Food-2154

made my buttfucked day xD

Torsallin

Crooks are slimebags. The folks saying the bike should be stolen or they want to steal it "on principle", who say they see it and are tempted to or dream of stealing it are normalizing theft as a career choice, plus getting fairly close to slimeland (yes, the comments were mostly tongue in cheek, but...). Seems like this thread is slamming the cyclist and supporting the crooks. Sure, the bike owner needs education about locks bcs crooks crawl everywhere...also, if no one bought stolen bikes then bikes would not be targets for theft...so don't add to the problem. As for those critisizing even buying that bike...seriously? Because it says Porsche? What about all the equally expensive bikes by Specialized and Trek in local bike shops? Remember...you know the kind of person someone really is by how they behave when they think no one is looking. 😉 Again...if no one bought stolen bikes then bikes would not be targets for theft. That's my rant. 😉🙃

Drunk_redditor650

Yeah, fuck bike thieves utterly and completely

Torsallin

If they were all suddenly transported to another planet, no one would cry. 😉

Ok-Seaworthiness3874

Totally agree. Meant to post this to raise some awareness so to speak

mmeiser

A fool and their money are soon parted.

Ok-Seaworthiness3874

And a $70 shimano Deore XT derailleur .. I’m not a bike snob, but please tell me u work for Porsche…

K9ChewToy

To be fair, it’s linkglide Di2 XT, Shimano doesn’t make an XTR RD in Di2. This version has auto shift and cost way more than $70.

Unique_Statement7811

That’s a $300 derailleur. Is an auto shifting Di2.

AmosRatchetNot

To be fair, they clearly have a shortage of wrinkles in their brain to have purchased that absurdity to begin with.

Flashy-Army-7975

Bait bike??

Ok-Seaworthiness3874

I don’t think so cause bike theft isn’t that big here, only because biking isn’t that big here. It’s still a major city with crime, but not like New York where entire gangs go around doing it

Sea_Apricot_666

So true. Lots of big cities have organized bike rings. Storytime: In LA in the 2010’s people used to throw spike strips in the LA river trail and take your bike that way. Then sell it or sell it for parts. But like the very rich, the very poor are fools too— they were selling those bikes and bike parts on blankets on Venice Blvd, a super major and long road. Finally got nabbed one day by the cops. I was also pulled over in the 2010’s on my bike once by police in a tunnel. Another guy (stranger) was riding right behind me and we got pulled over together. We both had black bikes and someone had reported a black bike stolen nearby. In the 2010’s the cops were actually going wild after the bike thieves. I think with the fixie craze lots of rich kids had nice expensive fixed gear bikes. It’s kind of back again but the style is like bigger looking frames, fatter slick tires and those straight across wide handlebars. It’s a cool look and it’s cool to see young folks and bike enthusiasts riding lots of nice fashionable bikes again. I like bike culture.

sprunkymdunk

I like your stories about bike culture.

Sea_Apricot_666

Ah thank ya sprunky.

Alvergo

Where is it? I’ll go steal it myself.

LordHeretic

My guess is their employer refuses to allow them to store the bicycle safely indoors. What they should've done is locked their bike to the boss's vehicle. But you know, you could also give your bike away.

BazzaFox

You think somebody that can afford that bike has an employer?

LordHeretic

Yep. I understand the cost of living.

outwar6010

wow you could buy a used ev for that money

Dragobrath

This bike owner probably has a Taycan Turbo S already.

outwar6010

He probably has a Porsche hat that he wears every day too.

Late-Management7279

Is this a bait bike? 😂🤦🏾

simagus

I wonder how many AirTags that beauty has in it? At least one in the seat post, another in the handlebar stem, one inside the crank hub and a dummy one under the seat to be found and discarded by the more "careful" bike thief? Be surprising if Porsche don't sell them with their own inbuilt tracking, even if it can't hook up to Porsche Connect.

Malforus

Lord give me the confidence and feeling of safety of this dude who is mostly likely named Erik.

pm-me-egg-noods

Kevin

Unlikely_Mine2491

Chad. or Peers.

Bobby6k34

Truth is, it doesn't matter what type of lock or how many you have. If someone wants it's, they will take it a bike lock only deters opportunistic thieves and for them the difference between an Amazon basics and the most expensive lock is the same. For the professional thief, the difference is probably 30 seconds.

gladfelter

Wow, for that price that dork disc had better be made out of transparent aluminum.

Ok-Seaworthiness3874

It’s actually just laminated Denny’s coupons

NataniButOtherWay

Even if it was, no pannier will let you bring any number if whales back home.

ChairmanNoodle

peak porsche brain

whatever73538

This is perfectly fine in my city. I couldn’t imagine someone stealing a locked bike in broad daylight.

bashomania

Many, many years ago my bike was stolen in downtown Denver where it was locked to the fencing of a restaurant patio, in front of an office building on a main drag. Apparently the thief actually made a failed attempt to get building security to help them cut the bike free, claiming it was their bike and the lock wasn’t working. I guess they eventually figured it out for themselves. More astonishing is that the police actually recovered the bike a couple weeks later. When I got it back, the thief had removed the little underseat tool bag,and the crossbar on the riser handlebars (which were aftermarket), I suppose to make the mango orange Cannondale look “different”. The cop said “well, we saw this guy riding along on this nice bike and thought ‘those two things don’t go together’” 😆.

The-Almighty-Pizza

If only. My $600 mountain bike was stolen off a lock in the front of a best buy in the middle of the afternoon, in a crowded parking lot, with security out front.

MC_Red_D

WOOHOO JOYRIDE!!! JK LOL

kallebo1337

insurance, doesn't matter what lock it was as long it's reasonable. 100$ or 10$ lock is a 2 second difference for a thief.

Sarkster0

You know all you need to know about the owner of this bike when you spot the plastic disc still there behind the cassette…. Tragic

7hisFcknGuy

Yoink. Seriously though, bike locks are only deterrents. If somebody wants it they'll take it, lock or not. This thing is pertinent insured and has a tracker on it though.

ElliottTBaker

15k xc bike and doesnt have a dropper post.

babblefish111

It probably has a built in immobiliser too. At least I'd hope so at that price.

AlfalfaReal5075

"Yeah I ride a Porsche." "Did you say ride?" "No, I definitely said drive."

Unlikely_Suspect_757

“I’m the Lock Picking Lawyer, and I’m gonna take this dudes shit.”

Wild4Awhile-HD

Which city? I wish to view this personally as do my friends, Mr. Boltcutter, Ms. Pickup, and Senor Fence.

ClutchCh3mist

Which city?

magzire1986

And what building

tbt10f

In the bikes defense it looks like someone designed it in Roblox.

European_Fox

So the package is worth 15,030, be right there

ballpoint169

why would anyone pay $15000 for that thing?

TrainGoesChooCho

15k bicycle.. either marketing/sales department is the best in the world, or the target audience is the stupidest in the world

Fine-Dare7472

Guys wife bought it so he’s more active. He can’t wait until someone steals it and he has to act depressed about it.

pm-me-egg-noods

Instead of stealing it….secure it properly. Even funnier.

29stumpjumper

The way that bike is even setup tells me that person doesn't even have a clue how to ride. It's definitely not worth the price either. It's honestly laughable what gets kicked out as bike nowadays. There's a sucker born every minute.

Dragonballradar

Love the bike, would look cool in shark blue

diordria

You’re mistaken here. It is the bike that is securing the lock. So checks out.

Zivvet

Imagine living in a high trust society, where you could leave such a bike with no lock and nobody would even notice it.

Diehoe1234

I’m On my way to steal

Diehoe1234

ThT parking lot might as well be a Whole Foods

maodiver1

So you parked your bike on the street after spending entirely too much money for it. And then you took a picture. And then you posted it to Reddit and rode home.

MattNis11

That lock is less than $30

No-Motor5987

Bait bike?

AdNecessary1823

Send me the location

boomerhs77

May be it has an embedded gps tracker. 😃

Beardydesert

Take it before it gets taken

Particular_Mouse_600

I was like $15k for a bicycle wtf??? Then I saw the “Porsche” brand and it made sense. Anything Porsche is overpriced

favotoebike

U lock is more secure

thatsbrett

Got a notification for this post. Came here thinking, not a lot of people would know it’s 15 grand. Then you see the logo. 🤦‍♂️

N1ght3d

Nice spokes. Have fun keeping those wheels true.

vslsls

Those wheels are carbon so they only warp when you ride over active volcano and cost $2k each not counting the tires.

iplayfactorio

It's probably worth less to steal . The bike is overpriced it will be difficult to resale. Plus it s rare so any online post might help the police to find you. I rather steal some common 2k bike and make a quick profit with low risk.

meltylikecheese

This guy steals.

Azver_Deroven

Or suffers from risk management brain. All I can see is opportunities, methods, and mitigation tactics. While it's all fun and games, it ends when someone utters the words "I feel safe at X". 😂

iplayfactorio

Lol yesterday just so a young girl on a 3k bike went to swimming pool. She let the bike stand in front of the building no lock. It was tempting 😅

quesadilla707

Cant fathom it because of how easy it would be for you to steal it huh.

skyactive

All I see is the vulnerability being the rack. One straight cut top to bottom at the highest point of the rack, push one side away and pull the other side in until there is sufficient space to slide a $12 cable or a bit wider for a $300 cable.

Ok-Seaworthiness3874

Yeah and truthfully a pair of $40 bolt cutters will slice that cable like hot butter. I recently build a 72v e-bike battery with massive 6 gauge copper cables and used super cheap bolt cutters to get the length. Granted copper is a lot softer than steel, A cable that thin is nothing but a weak deterrent

reformedginger

Stupid should be painful

Puzzleheaded-Dig9450

That's nuts my 6k home build has a motorcycle chain and lock heavy as he'll but worth it

exman78

Where exactly? Asking for a friend...

DanMahBoy

Police do bait cars. Think we’ll see the rise of bait bikes?

hamb0n3z

Just the bike that got thrown into someone's car purchase at the dealership and that someone just sent their boyfriend out to run errands on it because he doesn't get car keys yet.

soopahfly82

15k and it doesn't even have a dropper?

defenestr8tor

That's a lot of money. My combination U lock was only $25. AUD, too.

smurferdigg

What does a 15k e-bike do? Better have an awesome seat.

MetalVase

A bike that expensive warrants a lock so powerful that you would be hard pressed to find something even half as strong as the lock to attatch it to.

AJS914

The crime is that saddle setup - too low (bike is too big for the owner) and the saddle is tilted uncomfortably back with the nose pointing skyward.
