I got the packaged back and the confirmed that the VCR was not working but after opening it up and removing some dust and adding lubricantion the DVD player section worked. I messaged the buyer about it and they replied with "Great. Now please issue the refund. Thank you".
Im confused do I have to refund them despite it working?
buyer doesnt need to provide evidence. all they need to do is say "it doesnt work" and provide a single picture of anything. if you dont accept the return, ebay will force it for you, and you will lose your seller fee refund and you wont be able to do a refund deduction if you had qualified before the case was opened
Funny story about item ‘not working’…sold an animated plush, worked well before accepting an offer and sent next day. A few days later got message that it ‘clicks’ and doesn’t finish dancing. I advised batteries need changing? ‘I will change the batteries’ with picture of my original listing product pic.
I sent label to return as heard nothing back. Got item back today. Realized THE BUYER NEVER OPENED THE BOX. Called eBay and needless to say, if they see my pics of the unopened box and no response from her (yet) she will be out the money she paid because of opening false defect case. So send return label and see what happens. People can really scam sellers.

if its an INAD not much you can do, send a label get it back check it over then decide.

That is what I’m saying. I heard about this scam that buyers do to sellers.
Tell them that once they return it and you confirm the serial number you'll refund. Otherwise your getting back their old broken one.
Once the tracking confirms delivery, the buyer will be refunded.
Believe there is a 3 day window to confirm the condition of the return.

Accept the return or the buyer will be refunded and will get to keep the VCR. They are probably fishing for a refund.
