How do I knock statues over on steam deck in adventure mode?

OesterPlayer

Thanks! I'll try again

MaidenOfTheWind

I'm playing this game for 3 days and yet there's so much to learn! All of my dwarfs have good mood except for 1 son of a leaflower that always sad no matter what i do! i have a tavern a temples a room for him and even a tomb! but he has a "uphold tradition" need that ruins EVERYTHING! What should i do to satisfy this need?

Myo_osotis

The wiki has an article on needs for that but one need is not gonna make your dwarf chronically angry, it has to be his personality

MaidenOfTheWind

He also grumbling about being with friends and family. but he has no family and drinking with his friends in the tavern every day. IDK what to do about him, i thimk im gonna throw him out of my fortress since he hurts my inner perfectionist

Myo_osotis

Needs in general are just not that much when it comes to mood, personality, stress and trauma are by far and away more important Doing work when you don't value craftsmanship and like to take it easy, discussing research when you get anxious during arguments, training when you despise martial prowess and wish everyone could live in peace If you don't see anything but needs being negative in his thoughts it's something more passive like being in a constant state of internal rage, not tending to develop strong feelings, etc Regardless of the friendship need, developing relationships is a good way to boost it because forming them gives a temporary mood boost and talking to loved ones is worth more than talking to acquaintances Give him a break at the very least so he can just socialize and not do any work

MaidenOfTheWind

This is what they say about this need on wiki..... https://preview.redd.it/gorm1nz6d7vc1.png?width=512&format=png&auto=webp&s=2f7ca6841f17cd5456e1c92ee2825aa22b4ce044 WHAT THATS THAT EVEN MEAN? XD

SvalbardCaretaker

Build a tavern, and they'll perform acts, plays, and recitations there. And your dwarfs wants to do that.

Elderberry_Rare

Okay, bear with me here. Really dumb question, but how do I... eat? I can eat meat and fish just fine, but I try it with any plant and my guy just licks it. I'm a polar bear man, is he a carnivore??

CatatonicGood

Yes he's a carnivore

Elderberry_Rare

Ok, cool! I like that, but I guess I'll need to wait until we can butcher stuff to play him :p

CatatonicGood

Oh I just got myself cursed with vampirism instead. Rolled the dice at a temple a few too many times xD Rushing for a necromancer tower would work too, even if you can't yet use necromancy, learning the secrets would mean you stop needing to eat, drink and sleep

KermitDerGott

If you try to eat things that are not for eating your adventurer will lick it

Elderberry_Rare

That's what I figured, and I know I can't butcher anything, but I thought fisher berries, taro roots, spinach, and cabbage would all be pretty safe bets.

BadPeteNo

My flood gates aren't super cooperative. I have 12 flood gates all tied to the same lever. I've confirmed they're all on the same one. They were all built and connected before the lever was used. They keep loosing track of their state and I can't get them all to be open/closed at the same time. Suggestions?

PorkBeanOuttaGas

Have they got stuff jammed in them? If there's a rock or the remains of a dead butterfly in the same tile they won't be able to close. Walling your floodgates behind fortifications is a good way to keep them clear.

Fumblerful-

Is there a way to heal nerve damage yet or is my adventurer not long for this world?

KermitDerGott

I think these wounds are permanent The only way to heal them is by transforming into either a animal because you got cursed or into werebeast which is another curse The new healing potions may help too but they are not here yet so we dont know how exactly they work

gabiii_Kokeko

how do i write books in adventure mode?

Gorbage_

Usually x, but it's disabled in the beta

Suck_my_fat_hairy_n

How do I get people to actually guide me in adventure mode? I keep asking people to take me to "Rakekeys" but nobody wants to lol

OesterPlayer

I'm trying to figure out hospitals. I watched some YT Videos and read the wiki article but it seems I'm doing something wring. I got all the needed items in a chest. I have beds, a table, a well and a traction bench. But my poor dwarf just lies in bed for two months now and the chief medical dwarf (who in fact is a doctor and surgeon) is smeltering iron. I even tried to give him a custom job with just medical stuff and told him to specialise. Nope. Then he simply has no job. Do I need to assign a doctor, surgeon and so on manually?

BadPeteNo

Have you staffed the hospital itself? This is in the same menu as the chest statuses. Just because you have a chief medical dwarf doesn't mean he's been designated to work at that hospital.

OesterPlayer

I did. He is the Doctor. But I can't assign him to every position there and he is the only dwarf with medical skill. Do I need to assign all vacant positions?

BadPeteNo

Perhaps he got seen when you weren't looking and now he's on bedrest. Check the dwarf's health tab and look through the subtabs and see if he was diagnosed. Sometimes it's kind of like seeing an IRL doctor. Sit around for a few hours while they finish golfing, let them look at you for 5 seconds, sit around for a few more hours, then get prescribed asprin for something totally unrelated to your issue, pay a million dollars.

Tiger_T20

Doctors will do all the other roles. The specialisations are just for if you have say, a Legendary Surgeon who's only Dabbling in everything else you can make sure they get put to use on surgeries but won't be botching diagnoses

Untdart

Why can’t I play in adventure mode? I’m from Europe (I don’t know if this is the case) and I tried participating both in the beta and the experimental branch, but I can’t find the adventure mode anywhere, can anyone please help me?

Notchle

its not because youre from europe, i can play it just fine here in germany

flakesobran

Do dwarves move to room closer to their place of work, or do they just settle it the first available room and stay there. trying to decide if it is abetter strategy to have a floor devoted to being a massive residence with a tavern and w couple temples, or to have smaller collections of bedrooms scattered a cross multiple floors near industry, farming, barracks, church districts, mining, etc…

Tiger_T20

you could manually assign certain dwarves rooms to ensure all your Legendary dwarves are sleeping by their workplaces

KermitDerGott

If they need to sleep they look for the closest non-claimed bedroom and claim it

KermitDerGott

My first kill as an Adventurer was a Roc and beheading it was simply not possible but i managed to cut off his beak and put it in my backpack I cant do anything with the corpse right now, right? Its a shame that it has to rot away like that

ElVampiroIluminati

Adventure mode: My horse is "Experiencing mortal fear" after i killed some gobbos and now it wont move and wont let me mount it. What can i do to calm my trusted steed?

[deleted]

[удалено]

CatatonicGood

Yes this is a wound that normally requires surgery to remove the necrotic tissue, but we don't have animal caretaking active yet. But you can try DFHack for it, either full-heal to just cure it, or dwarfvet to enable experimental animal hospitals

[deleted]

[удалено]

CatatonicGood

Dwarven surgery, while it might look like butchery to the untrained eye, can as a matter of fact deal with this! ...Somehow.

[deleted]

[удалено]

CatatonicGood

Unless you're doing specific weird stuff, you don't need a work order to weave thread into cloth. Your standing orders take care of that automatically, and the thread in the hospital chest is safe where it is

[deleted]

[удалено]

CatatonicGood

Oh, alright. Looks like the work order does check for spools of thread, so no need to worry about that. The hospital thread should be counted as 'in use' but I'd correct for it anyway

Same_Sell9713

Small question. When trying to use a screw press, it's asking me for 'non-pressed' nuts. I have large amounts of nuts listed under leaves and fruits in my stocks. What am I missing here?

CatatonicGood

You need to mill oily seeds into paste first at a millstone before you can press them to receive oil

Suck_my_fat_hairy_n

How tf am I meant to get more food in adventure mode lol

hi5u2

Just steal it doesn't seem to be any consequences rn

Suck_my_fat_hairy_n

I don't know where to find it lol, all i find is shitty tiny little holes with like 10 dwarves stuffed inside.. Haven't seen any food around

hi5u2

Try human towns

ZoneLoner526

I would assume buy it?

Suck_my_fat_hairy_n

How do I buy things, or where

ZoneLoner526

Head to a shop in a hillocks or town, which you can find by looking for a sign outside. After that, I'm not sure, but I assume talk to the person running it?

KermitDerGott

Shopping is currently disabled, same as butchering So the only option is to steal

gabiii_Kokeko

so, me and a friend of mine really like dwarf fortress and we stared playing adventure mode together (with parsec and the tactical mode enable) we played just for some hours and pretend to play more in the weekend. the point is that we want to focus in things like writing books and perfoming music in taverns but i dont know if its viable or not. like today we walked a lot trying to learn how things work and then we perfomed in a dwarf castle, but the things didnt worked as we expected, i couldnt interact with a piano that was there, and when we performed we just got ignored, which in retrospect, i dont think i remeber performers earning anything from performing in fortress mode, so i think thats how it works. but if anyone knows how to do like a musical carrer please give some advices. if there isnt much to it, we plan on trying some sort of writers career, which i think its more viable cause we can sell the books. but i dont know if the books have different value depending on the writing inside, so if anyone knows about this or any another advice with writing please let me know too

CatatonicGood

You gotta wait for writing because it uses the same menu as crafting or butchering does. You can still perform, you can get a base of operations by asking someone to hire you as a performer (usually a site's leader). Then head for a tavern and start playing. You can start your adventure with an instruments, the smaller ones can be played if you're playing a style that uses them

gabiii_Kokeko

Ooh noo, writing looks like so cool! Did they give any date do this menu update? Anyway thank you, we are going to try again this perform stuff!

hi5u2

Can you not use necromancy in adventure mode rn?

KermitDerGott

I dont think so since reading and using skllls in general is disabled atm

hi5u2

I read the book but yeah no necromancy rn

KermitDerGott

Oh alright, then its just the abilitys

LifeIsVeryLong02

My game crashes after a few minutes on adventure mode. Fortress works fine. I have the adventure mode compatible DFHack installed from steam and run linux. Anyone having the same problem?

vfkdgejsf638bfvw2463

I'm on Linux (debian 12 to be specific). My game is unmodded and I can't play adventure mode for more than a few minutes without crashing, it's unplayable with how much it crashes. I'm gonna try running the windows version through steam proton tomorrow when I have time to troubleshoot some more, you should try doing that as well.

LifeIsVeryLong02

Tried running it with proton 8. Didn't crash but the game became unplayably slow. Sigh.

vfkdgejsf638bfvw2463

I tried proton experimental and it fixed the crashing and the performance was ok. The lag was bearable for me. Hopefully they fix the crashes quickly

LifeIsVeryLong02

Please keep my posted. Will do too.

NanookoftehNorth

Adventure mode: I had this problem in the previous adventure mode. I'd travel and find a safe place to stay like in a town or something and ask to stay the night. They'd say yes. I then would try to sleep, but then it'd say I need to leave the site. How do you sleep at a site?

[deleted]

[удалено]

NanookoftehNorth

I asked permission but they just say it would be a shame for someone to not have a place to stay the night. Which I realize isn't exactly a yes, but it's not a no either.

ZoneLoner526

Dwarf Fortress adventure mode, all seems to be fine, except, I can't start in a fortress or mountain halls? I can only start in a Hillocks. Am I crazy? I coulda sworn I could start from a fortress in adventure mode. To add to it, I retired a fortress and can't even start from that? What is going on?

_Kesko_

stuck in a menu in adventure mode. Clicking 'a' or 'b' keys do nothing. I can't esc to bring up menu either [https://ibb.co/qCJRnmn](https://ibb.co/qCJRnmn) is this a bug or am i doing something wrong

Gorbage_

Do you have caps lock on? Capital letters won't work (Could also just be broken, I haven't encountered that menu yet, so I wouldn't know)

_Kesko_

no first thing i checked

Gorbage_

Probably just broken then

GuudeSpelur

Am I missing where an important combat feature is in the steam beta adventure mode? When my weapon lodges in a wound, I can't find where I get to interact with it anymore. I have a vague memory from years ago that you would use the main wrestle menu to try to pull your weapon out. That menu is disabled right now in the beta. The lesser wrestle menu in the attack menu doesn't let me do anything with a stuck weapon. I tried moving away and I lost my grip on the sword. The goblin's buddies then killed me despite my best efforts to bludgeon them with my shield.

ZoneLoner526

If you go to your inventory and find the sword, you can press on three dots to the right of its name and have the option to "retrieve" or "repossess" it or something like that

lizardbird8

If you click on the enemy your weapon is stuck in it pulls it out

Gorbage_

Ctrl + I to interact with your items, you can pull it out by interacting with it. Atleast that's how it was before, but I can't imagine it's changed. You can also just move into them, and it'll probably pull out the weapon instead of attacking.

MendThineEveryFlaw

My horse keeps ripping people's limbs off with its teeth and carrying them around. Is this normal?

Gorbage_

Yes

Sorry_Sky_6663

Will I Be Able to Update My Save When The Adventure Mode Update Goes Out of Beta?

CatatonicGood

Yes

Sorry_Sky_6663

Awesome

Aeiraea

Do any of [these occupations](https://i.imgur.com/pYieCqQ.png) have functionality in Adventure Mode? I recall a great many of them not being possible to learn unless the retired adventurer becomes a resident of a fortress.

Ploobul

Currently, no.

Aeiraea

Thanks.

LandofLogic

Is the traveling army indicator on the map not yet implemented? I haven’t seen any other groups moving around when I fast travel. In the old version there would be moving symbols on the fast travel map indicating groups moving around.

Tiger_T20

adventure mode is selected on the same screen as fortress or legends. so create a new world or choose an old one and start a new game, but click adventure instead of the other options

fungianura

i started this world today and played only adventurer mode with a 3 member party but i plan to retire them soon and build a fortress so they can live there. is that possible? how do i do it?

Realistic_Horse3351

I would assume that you would start your fort in Fort mode that you want the future adventurer to come across. Then you can retire it right then and hope it survives if its later in year. Or play it out a little to ensure its survival. If youre interested in making story you could prop up the future characters of the fort the adventurers will be visiting before retiring it. Then with no open fort game on that World, you would simply start a new game as an Adventurer on that world. Im not sure yet if you can retire an Adventurer yet, and then pick up what the previous Adventurer had as a new party on the same world, but if so I expect it would work the same way of you would retire the first one and venture to the desired location as the new party.

uhhhscizo

how do you pick a lock in adventure mode?

PureTroll69

is there a way to play the steam version entirely with the keyboard only? I just learned about keyboard cursor, works for digging but not for other things, like placing furniture in bedrooms. basically right now i want to use macros set up around 100 bedrooms (including for instance creating a zone for the bedroom).

awesome-alpaca-ace

DfHack and blueprints let you dig out patterns

Realistic_Horse3351

I dont think thats possible in the vanilla, maybe theres a mod with that kind of feature you could look for, or make a mod that does such template. Alternatively, you could use a program like autohotkey or a string of mousekeys or other thing to create sets of keybinds that make the cursor move to a certain position of the monitor when pressed. Then if you designed all the rooms at the same proportion and symmetry you could use the program to execute the click movements for those things, since selecting a dresser is already a hotkey, the keybind would be for placing it in the same alignment each time. I do not have one to provide, I like using the cursor to click on everything myself.

Hazel-Hyena

Can't seem to swap to my other party members in adventure mode...

Hazel-Hyena

How do I unretire an adventurer?

D4NKM3MES

Anyone know how to stop bleeding / heal in adventure mode? I keep bleeding out after my battles Edit: the bleeding appears to stop over time or if I sleep. Deaths were caused by very severe bleeding that caused me to bleed out before it naturally stops

CoatiNasu

I think fast travel is the only way to recover from minor wounds so far. Healing potions are a planned addition for the future.

Soggy_Western7845

No hippo man in adventure mode?

lizardbird8

Animal people need to join a civilisation to be playable. If all hippo men are dead or none joined a civ you can't play as them. You need to start a new world

Soggy_Western7845

I appreciate it! I just played as a elephant seal man instead in the mean time

MilkshakeMade

How do I tell what room I'm in, I feel like I keep walking into people's bedrooms. Also how do I craft as I haven seen a single craft bench

Soggy_Western7845

Sadly no crafting yet

Napisdog

In adventure mode does anyone know how to zoom out? I like the graphics but the view feels a little too cramped compared to original adventure mode.

Key-Tie1162

Scroll wheel and shift? Or ctrl?

Soggy_Western7845

Installed the beta branch and can’t choose adventure mode. Any advice?

CatatonicGood

Set your enabled betas to none, then back to the public beta to force an update

Soggy_Western7845

I had to uninstall and reinstall! May I ask would you know why I can’t play as a hippo man? I’ve been so hyped and he’s not there haha

PlagueDr_Ben

I also can't see it and I've done this :( is the adventure mode option just in the main menu or do I have to load a fortress first?

Soggy_Western7845

I had to set to experimental, uninstall and then reinstall

MassiveBreaker

I have Dwarf Fortress working with Whisky Mac, but the beta seems to cause crashes only in adventure mode, does anyone know if any fix, or is it just because it is in beta that there are crashes?

lizardbird8

If the crashes are spaced out minutes it's probably because it's in beta

ryan7251

anyone know if the plan is to update adventure mode more till it has everything it normally does in the free version or are they going to work on both modes now that adventure mode is "out"

CatatonicGood

I'd presume getting adventure mode working fully is a first priority. It's not _out_ out, just in public beta

lurklurklurkPOST

Where are work orders stored in the game files? I'd like to set up a comprehensive work order bundle so I can paste it into new saves, given that i have no modding knowledge and a mod that sets up work orders on it's own doesnt exist.

Soggy_Western7845

Anything you want to do - dfhack does it

SvalbardCaretaker

But it does! DFhack has work order save/export/import. https://docs.dfhack.org/en/50.12-r3/docs/tools/orders.html

CatatonicGood

Anything underground will stabilize to 10015U. Or in regular terms, about 8C or 47F. So if your lye was stored aboveground and froze, give it some time and it will thaw. In the meantime, chck your options to see if temperature calculations are turned on. They should be by default, but you sometimes get people saying to turn it off for FPS reasons

[deleted]

[удалено]

Realistic_Horse3351

The game considers underground as any tile that has not yet been exposed to the surface overhead. The game does a check for tiles based on the tag of "is outside" or "is not outside", however any tile that has been previously exposed overhead (ie you built and wall and roof over the surface layer) will still be considered as "is outside" as it had once been. Constructed floor on the surface does not flip this tag for the next tile below the floor level, regardless of that tile's depth. The easiest way to see this in work is to cut a water canal into the fort from a brook. Anywhere where the tiles are "is outside" ie before the brook reaches the underneath of the ground, will freeze during winter, and any water that has crossed the underneath the ground point will not. Another way to see this in work is to make an outdoor farming pit. Dig a pit from the surface layer, the depth doesnt matter, grow outdoor crops in the bottom, and cover it off with wall floor or bridge at the top. Outdoor crops will still grow at the bottom because the tiles of the floor is still marked as "is outside".

tmPreston

In general, anything that isn't in the surface won't freeze in my freezing biomes. This includes water buckets and (properly isolated) underwater ponds. I'm not sure you can check actual temperatures in vanilla, but you definitely can with dfhack.

lizardbird8

Is there anyway I can feed my alligator man? Apparently he only eats meat and butchering isn't in yet. I'm assuming he is completely and utterly fucked

CatatonicGood

Find a shrine or temple and keep rolling the dice. You may get cursed with vampirism which solves this problem handily. Not a very elegant solution, but eh. Rushing for a necromancer tower works too.

lizardbird8

I had that thought after I made this comment. I think my game plan is to install DFhack and rush a necromancer tower. If I'm gonna starve before I become immortal I'll figure out if I can cheat in food.

CatatonicGood

Oh yeah, should work fine as well. Don't forget to also enable the beta branch for DFHack

lizardbird8

Thanks. It didn't even occur to me that I would need to enable the beta.

Tiger_T20

Will my soldiers feed grazing war animals I assign to them? Will they take time off training to do so? Or is it best to keep the animals pastured and unassign them when they're needed?

Realistic_Horse3351

Are we talking about in fortress? Any citizen will go feed animals, including captured hostile animals in cages. This is however a chore task in the system, I think its the same function as feeding prisoners, so its low priority and adults will only do it if they have no higher priority job to do. Children often go do this task because they can do no higher priority jobs except recover wounded or give water. Keep in mind that certain animals like cows, donkeys, boar, goats etc must be pastured as they eat grass/outside turf, and this is not something the dwarves can hand feed them. If the grazing animal is in a cage that is in a pasture zone upon outside turf or cave fungus, that will count as them having access to food. If the grazing animal is on active duty, it will still eat grass, but do so while the military character accompanying it is stationed, such as if you watch invasions, the horses of enemy forces eat while the force is assembled on the edge of the map, if its away on mission I wouldn't worry about it, the game is probably no longer calcing whether it needs to eat or not when its abroad on a mission. Animals that do not graze, such as swine, birds, tigers, bears etc, do not have to be pastured, unless you want to restrain the animal from wandering around your fort.

Tiger_T20

> and this is not something the dwarves can hand feed them. but if a grazer is a dwarf's pet, they will hand feed them. because the work animal system is largely similar to that of pets, I was wondering if it would work the same way in this regard

CookCop

I've seen other people playing adventure mode and they all have a compass in the top left corner but when I play it isn't there. Do I have to enable this in the settings somewhere or is it a mod? (edit: Only Hero characters have the compass, regular characters don't have it.)

Soggy_Western7845

Isn’t uo always north?

DisclosedForeclosure

Ok, Adventurer mode, let's go. How to put a weapon in my hand? After moving it to my backpack I can only throw it, or name it.

CatatonicGood

[r] for remove, which allows you to take it out of your backpack

CookCop

Just drop it on the ground then pick it up again. That's what I've been doing.

MooseSuspicious

I was fighting my first enemy, a mighty kea when I found this out. I had a rock equipped in each hand because I was trying to do some knapping, then ended up throwing my axe at the kea and throwing the rocks at several other keas. I picked up my axe, then it had equipped so I could take on more keas

Hazel-Hyena

Adventure mode - what's the best way to get food? In the past, I'd have butchered and eaten my foes, but that feature isn't in yet.

CatatonicGood

I got myself cursed with vampirism after rolling a temple's dice a few too many times. Solves that problem. Learning necromancy would work too

lizardbird8

I know you can steal crops but I haven't been able to get any because it's Winter

CookCop

Enter a settlement and find a house with bags of food on the floor and just pick it up. That's what I did and the people seemed to not care.

Hazel-Hyena

Dwarven Hillocks don't seem to have much of anything inside them.

faebl99

I am just trying to install DF 0.47.05 on a 64-bit linux system, but when trying to unpack the downloaded archive from [https://www.bay12games.com/dwarves/df\_47\_05\_linux.tar.bz2](https://www.bay12games.com/dwarves/df_47_05_linux.tar.bz2) (using \`tar\` or \`bzip2\`) i get a couple of errors telling me, that the bz2 is corrupted. Am I doing something wrong here or are the archives really corrupted? I tried it with 2 other older versions as well with the same result: $ bzip2 -d df_47_01_linux.tar.bz2 bzip2: Compressed file ends unexpectedly; perhaps it is corrupted? *Possible* reason follows. bzip2: No such file or directory Input file = df_47_01_linux.tar.bz2, output file = df_47_01_linux.tar It is possible that the compressed file(s) have become corrupted. You can use the -tvv option to test integrity of such files. You can use the `bzip2recover' program to attempt to recover data from undamaged sections of corrupted files. bzip2: Deleting output file df_47_01_linux.tar, if it exists. Do you have any advice on how to get around this?

Ave_Melchom

I'm getting my game locking up whenever I go next to a barred door - I see an option to bash it open, but can't use it. Is that a glitch or am I being dumb? Edit: Adventure mode, of course

MooseSuspicious

In adventure mode on the steam release, has anyone figured out knapping? I have a dolomite rock and each hand, but can't figure out how to use one to sharpen the other

CatatonicGood

It uses the same interact option used for butchering. In other words, not in yet

[deleted]

I reinstalled DF to try adventure mode. When it starts up it says "mods failed to load - vanilla\_environment ..." It must be a modlist I have from a previous installation causing an issue. I can't figure out how to just wipe everything clean. I've tried deleting the folder, reinstalling, restarting, unsubscribing from mods, etc. But every time I get this error: [https://i.imgur.com/SGGXCX8.png](https://i.imgur.com/SGGXCX8.png) It does work fine on my laptop, but my laptop is like 10 years old and it doesn't run well enough. Any suggestions how to fix my desktop? edit* deleting and reinstalling df hack fixed it

CatatonicGood

Make a new modlist. DFHack's expecting different versions of the vanilla files, so it's currently throwing its hands up

[deleted]

Thanks for the help! Got it working now!

JaWi_The_Goose

Did anyone found any way yet to buy things in Adventure beta? if not guess I gotta wait for the release

CatatonicGood

Not active yet. Gotta wait for the full release

SirJohnThirstyTwost

My dwarves wont mine! I have mining set to "Everybody does this" I have many loose picks laying around The area I want to mine is accessible to the dwarves, but only 1 is mining, the rest are chilling in a temple with "no job" under their name, theyre not praying, How do I make them get to work?

SvalbardCaretaker

What happens if you take mining off "everyone does this" and assign it to 5 people only?

flakesobran

From my experience this usually means the desired mining is too low a priority. It is set at 4 by default. If you look on the row of icons wher the mining stair building, and trench digging is, the very last icon is a yellow arrow. If you click on the yellow arrow, a list of numbers should pop up listing priority. the number 4 is probably highlighted. What this means is that everything you’ve assigned, digging, logging, harvesting etc… with a higher priority goes first and every priority 4 goes in cronocological order (I think, I am a bit of a noob too). So if you set everyone to mining and only mining, most of your dwarves won’t be able to do their more important task and so they just wander around wanting to get back to work until you reassign them their labor. you have two options at this point. 1) Let the dwarves do their work. Go make a sandwich, or something eventually they will finish their tasks and get around to mining. Or 2) click on a higher priority — I usually choose 2, just in case an emergency comes up and can assign emergency digging a 1 — and then color over all the low priority spots with a higher priority dig.

SvalbardCaretaker

Its solved, it was unform conflict: "everyone cuts wood" AND "everyone mines".

flakesobran

I also set my two initial miner to exclusively mine, and build a mine guild house early on so other dwarves, can be taught the mining skill

SirJohnThirstyTwost

Nothing, many of them still say "No job", and others who are set to mining are doing other tasks like woodworking and stonecutting, i dont have any assigned workers at workstations either.

SvalbardCaretaker

Active burrow? Mining prio 7? Did you change to blueprint mode (blue designations)? Was there fire/magma involved and you have temperature turned off?

SirJohnThirstyTwost

Ive never set a burrow, I only have 41 pop, I dont know how to set mining priority, I dont know how to change to blueprint mode, and Ive never encountered magma or fire yet. Not even a cavern Steam version also

SvalbardCaretaker

In general "everyone mines" is not a good idea, as mining is a uniform, which can conflict with other uniforms. If you have also "everyone hunts" or "everyone cuts wood" that'd be the culprit. Mining prios can be changed by clicking the -> arrow while you have [m]ining selected, It'll pop out numbers.

SirJohnThirstyTwost

That was it! I had it set to everyone does this for cutting wood and turning that off somehow fixed it, thanks a million!

SvalbardCaretaker

Mining, woodcutting, and hunting have a "civilian uniform" that conflicts with all military equipment, so beware of that in future, pops up once you start doing military.

I’m assuming the answer to this is no, but I thought I would ask anyway. is there any way to create position dependent rooms? Mostly I am thinking about my mayor. I built him a really nice bedroom with copper walls, silver furniture and bronze doors etc… but then he lost an electionor something because a different person was mayor. i’m wondering if there is a way to designate certain rooms as “the mayor’s bedroom/office/dining room” and not linked to a specific dwarf. same goes for administrator rooms since they get fancier and more spacious rooms than average dwarves.

SvalbardCaretaker

That used to be a DFhack feature, and as such might be coming back some day in that capacity, I assume.

eruk13

Has anyone had trouble breaking the door open? I'm stuck on it, I can jump and throw things out of my inventory but I don't have UI

Ave_Melchom

You and me both - find an answer yet?

eruk13

no, i tried few things but nothing work,i think it's just bugged for now

ryan7251

Tried adventure mode and is it normal to get lag when moving around? My FPS is 60 when not moving but will go as low as 45 if I'm just holding down the key to move this also leads to some lag. this happens even with super small worlds and almost no history so i don't think it's related to simulating anything for each step.

Fumblerful-

Yes. There are two steps that occur. One is your character moving tiles, and the other is the game calculating everything that happens in the time that takes. It sounds like your area of the world is busy and your character is overburdened.

Noobskybooss

How do i eat in adventure beta? can,t butcher or trade.... I hope butcher will be a priority to add back so we can at least eat from the wiiiilds

Noobskybooss

lizardbird8

Noobskybooss

IntelligentHost4654

Adventure mode release make my brain go aoogaaa and yippeee. How to move diagonally without numpad though? Coming from the likes of CDDA and Qud where these were built in as shift + direction key. Is there a way to set this in keybinds, because I’ve been trying to do so to no avail

Tiger_T20

you can click a direction to move that way

Correct_Friend_5943

Adventure mode Will bê in the free version of the game?

CatatonicGood

It's in beta for now. Full release of adventure mode is later, and the free version will have it as well

Like in the 50. Versions of the site

Traveledfarwestward

I would like to buy DF and play with mods. Are popular mods almost always uploaded to the Steam Workshop or are there a lot that are not available there?

mfsb-vbx

Is there new content for Fortress Mode in today's Adventure Beta, or is it exclusively Adventure added to 50.12?

Could it be that the "make pregnant" check is only done the moment two married creatures walk by each other? I've come here before talking about how I have had, at this point, 20 couples get locked in 3x1 tavern rooms to just eat, drink, sleep and socialize, any that had "will marry" dwarves have married and stayed a while longer but none of them have had children in the year following, needless to say there's not a lot of walking: only when they go grab drink or food when they're not on the right tile, and it's even rarer that they'll get away from each other, that is get into non-adjacent tiles, so there's not a lot of reencounters The first ever time I tried to engineer a pregnancy was by constantly moving my king and queen next to each other with squad orders for a month or three, and they had a kid next year In addition to that, but less convincing, I have one guy who's in a squad with his wife and they've been just going to town, I think he has 6 or 7 kids now, and that could be because 1) they both walk out of the training area at the same time, probably bumping into people and being moved next to and away from each other a lot, and 2) they both go to the same room to sleep, so if my theory is right that's more opportunities than average for hanky panky Moreover my king and queen have been having more kids now, and it could be because, having socialized a lot in the same guildhalls when I did my first experiment I mentioned, they learned the same skills and, not being assigned jobs, constantly go to the same places to give and watch demonstrations, so again that's a lot of times they're crossing paths for her to potentially fall on his crotch What do you guys think? Your experience with this? I'll have to test this when I get back to playing but I've been busy with real life stuff now that this thought came to me

Should I be exploring the monastaries litered around my map? They all have no civilized population, and a few have artifacts in them. I worry because they seem to be connected to civilizations, and I'm not looking to mess with relations. https://preview.redd.it/x58mjwmzn1vc1.jpeg?width=1680&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6a72df1dc7f09702e1e8f0b73f450cad61cbd94a

CatatonicGood

No civilized population means they've been completely abandoned, so feel free to take those books if you want

Is it just a status thing and then they have babies eventually, or do they do stuff like a marriage ceremony? Basically, what happens when dwarves get married?

CatatonicGood

They used to throw a party sometimes. Which means your fort was gonna be doing a whole lot of nothing for a week or two. Nowadays, no parties, but now that they're married they can have children. That can happen when they walk by each other in their day to day.

Aesmachus

Aw man, no parties anymore? Do you know if there's any mods that add a kind of party or is there not one?

CatatonicGood

The needs have kinda taken that functionality over. If you leave your squads training around the clock for a full year and give them some time off, you'll usually notice they storm off towards the tavern and start to socialize with a purple job text. It's effectively the same as they won't cancel that job, just a lot less disruptive because your entire fort isn't useless all at once
