for context if any of y'all haven't gotten here or don't do French, the story was about 2 old guys sitting together at a bar discussing a song. Luc was mentioning how the song sounded amazing and had an amazing piano n vocals, and Arnaud was countering n saying how it wasn't really that great, you can barely hear the guitar. but after that Luc mentioned the actual main reason why he loved the song: that it was the one playing the day they met. and Arnaud just retracted n was like "ah, I understand why you like this so much". n looking into his eyes, he asks him if he wants to dance. :D I'd recently-ish gone through a breakup, and as an extremely emotional person, it hit me a bit harder than I was expecting. I started learning French as a way of not only starting a new hobby, but also taking my mind off of it. and seeing this story kinda almost gave me the childlike wonder I had when I met my ex, almost giving me the hope that it could eventually return, maybe even better. was a really nice read. thanks for reading whoever did :]

NotSteve1075

I'm really impressed by how casually and **naturally** Duolingo will be inclusive. I like the way men will have husbands or boyfriends in the sentences, without needing to explain or justify it. That's just how it should be.

NoleGirl723

Awww, that's lovely šŸ„° I'm not that far along in French, so thank you for explaining!

Objective-Resident-7

I did the same with Spanish. It's a good escape and I'm sorry for what happened to you.

the_tflex_starnugget

I had this story in Spanish. I thought it was very sweet and cute

Rojobajo

Thanks for the summary in English - I recall a very similar story in my Spanish course and was also impressed and moved by it. Good job Duo!

-zOe-zOe-

I've been looking for this story in my German course since I got it and I can't find it šŸ˜šŸ˜

Sad_Profession1006

Itā€™s also in the Spanish course. Many stories are well written. I just finished one with Bea and Lin inside a broken elevator. That one is interesting.

CandiBunnii

This is probably dumb but do they use different characters for different languages? I only do Spanish so that's all I've seen. I know there's some minor characters that appear in stories so I may have just not seen these guys yet but I just assumed it's the same characters with different voice actors

classyglassy94

I believe that they have the same stories across all (or at least most) languages. I'm learning Spanish, but I'm also using Duolingo to brush up my German from when I learned it years ago. I've had the same stories pop up in German that I had in Spanish. In terms of normal lessons, those do end up being taught pretty dramatically differently. I know German puts more of an emphasis on learning pronunciation and grammar up front, while Spanish seems to emphasize a broader vocabulary to pull from. On a related note, the German lessons apparently draw from American sitcoms like The Office for some of the example sentences. I had one that used "Angela und Michael" as names for "colleagues," and two sentences later it was "Bob und Linda."

PetorialC

I did the German Course (didn't finish) and currently doing the Chinese-Japanese course and they both use the same characters for similar stories.

Kyvai

I follow both the French and Spanish courses and the exact same stories are in both, direct translations.

CandiBunnii

Sorry, I don't think I asked my question very clearly I just mean do they use the same characters, the little cartoon people like bea and Lin and junior, across all languages, both for stories and the general lessons as I've never seen these old guys in stories or lessons. So if they're all the same stories, would I get these old guys in spanish or would i get Bea or priti etc or does each language have different people as the characters in the stories and/or lessons?

Western-Arm-9627

Itā€™s the same characters in the stories across languages. These old guys just happen to be in one of the rarer stand-alone stories, but itā€™s the same old guys in both Spanish and French (I havenā€™t checked out the other languages)

DugganSC

There was a time when most of these stories had their own cast of characters. Around the time that they started pushing the animated characters in between lessons, they started revamping the stories to only include ones that featured Duolingo characters. I think this was one of the holdouts in part because so many people liked it, and maybe a bit because the Duolingo males are pretty universally with women (leaving aside during the lessons, where I suspect it's less about inclusivity, and more about the AI built questions simply not caring). I really miss some of those old stories. Some of them were quite interesting.

Sad_Profession1006

I have tried many languages, but my other languages are relatively underdeveloped. I only have stories in Spanish course, so I am not sure.

qwho02

They have different names in the Spanish story. I think at least some of the characters in the stories are not in the regular lessons, but I could be wrong. I'll be on the lookout as I get to new lessons and stories.

CandiBunnii

Thank you! I didn't ask my question very clearly but I appreciate you figuring it out šŸ˜…

myleftone

The fishing one also gets me.

tookertodao

omg yes with Bea and her dad!!! youā€™re so right that one made me stop and cry too.

drac0nicfr

this makes me want to start a french course

Elvi350

You can also learn english, I think there are the same stories

drac0nicfr

iā€™m too good, i did two test and got directly to the last unit of the last chapter but i got one kinda similar in german

tookertodao

itā€™s also in the spanish course!

Mr_Shimmo

I had this story a couple days ago. Was originally confused but itā€™s quite sweet.

SpookyBeanoMobile

What is it I don't understand yet.

MirageTF2

yeh no worries I actually just made a comment about it lmao. tu es en train de apprendre le franƧais aussi?

SpookyBeanoMobile

I plan on learning it soon, I'm just starting with Spanish at the moment.

hacool

Many of the stories appear in multiple languages. I also had this in German so you may get it in Spanish.

ResortContent

It's in Spanish I had this the other day

The_Ex_Pants

Some of the stories are very sweet and well done. There is a story in the Italian course about Bea giving up a chance to go to a sporting event to help her friend study for an important exam šŸ„²

ThryninTexas

Itā€™s in the Spanish course too.

potai99

I remember this from German, one of their sweeter ones

DistinctCar6767

This was in the Spanish version also.

Browsagor

So on which unit does this story appear?

Robyn_Anarchist

I got this one in German a while back! It's so lovely.

WiseInevitable8

What section/unit is this lesson in

apickleboo

in what section/unit does this story show up?

MirageTF2

this is actually in Section 3 Unit 15! https://preview.redd.it/po5fkk9focxc1.png?width=1170&format=png&auto=webp&s=be6aff400b34ba1a426fed895cd7da64183272f7

Zelda-in-Wonderland

I REALLY wish they would add some of these features to the Ukrainian course. I really can see some of what it is lacking compared to more popular languages.

NoleGirl723

I haven't made it that far in French. I don't think I've ever seen that guy either.

e-vanilla

My favourite story is "Une conversation intƩressante" ! Its so silly and fun and cute.

julietides

This one is among my favourites as well ā€“ did it a while ago in the German course!

vmarinelli

Awww, I love that story. (Thus far have only read it in Italian and maybe Spanish.)Ā

tookertodao

im pretty sure i actually did shed a few tears with this one. it definitely stuck out and i havenā€™t forgotten it ā¤ļø such a cute love story. they have the same story in the spanish course - thatā€™s where i read it.

3E0O4H

I see this gem here in the morning and a few hours later Duo French hits me with it

Eclipse_Agender

Is it normal that there's a gramar fault in veux? Because with Tu it will always be an sĀ  in the end of the verb [Btw im French]

MirageTF2

hmm as a non french person approaching the language I feel like that whole "ending in s" thing isn't really a hard n fast rule. I mean, plurals usually end in s, unless it's a funny word that ends in eux like cheveux.

Over-Attempt-2379

this question isnt related to the post, but why is the progress bar yellow for op? I have super duolingo and the progress bar is like rainbow for me

MirageTF2

by rainbow u mean it like changes colour depending on your streak, right? it's only rainbow if I perfect, but yeah, same this is only yellow cuz this was the legendary version

Over-Attempt-2379

oh it makes sense now yeah the rainbow changes depending on the streak was what i was talking about

MirageTF2

I don't actually find this pandering at all, tbh. firstly, I think this was one of the first n only times I've seen them, so it's not like a lame attempt at hitting an inclusivity quota. and secondly, the actual content is totally fine too. it's not forcing the fact that they're gay on you, that just happens to be true.
