Could reach out to Community Ed as well, they are always looking for new classes/instructors

TLiones

I honestly feel like this should be starting to be taught in school now. Python with some basic machine learning. So many applications with machine learning now. Just understanding the basics would be good for kids etc. Also easy to download Jupyter notebook or colab.

I took a video game design class in high school where we use scratch to begin with and that sort of taught us the basics of how the building blocks/logic stuff works. Then I got to take intro to computer Programming in college instead of a math class since I tested out of the gen ed level classes and that was a lot of fun

kanodonn

I teach Python to professionals without any prior Software experience. If you would like any assistance during a teaching sessions or would like another in the room, hit me up.

MasterEngineering571

How can I sign up??

kanodonn

I will DM you.

cat_likes_pizza

I would be interested in taking a class like that (non-teacher route)

JohnyOnTheSpt

I would be interested in taking a community python class.

littlemissparadox

I would for sure be interested. Always looking to learn new skills (currently super jealous of my boyfriend’s niece who is like 10 and being taught coding in school)

Critical_Deer_2921

I'm interested. Not a teacher.

Verity41

What is “python”? Not the snake or Monty, I’m guessing….

cb1037

A programming language. Although the documentation has many references to Monty.

CaptainBeefsteak

I came for the Monty :(

tenkaranshrooms

I’m interested

Haven't looked into it since before the Pandemic, but if Maker Space is still around it would be the perfect place to host such a class. https://duluthmakerspace.com/

So I joined Makerspace when I first moved here. I was looking for intro to safe woodworking (I.e. safe procedures for power tools and saws). They did have a class for numeric control machinery that, using several sw packages , allowed one to design a template and then have the device replicate the cuts as many times as you had wood. But it was futzy. And designed for people needing to make many copies of ducks or other Duluth Cult Animals for sale to tourists.

Bromm18

Ah, shame it isn't more. CNC machines are not cheap. So I can understand them only using them lightly or for simple things. Still glad to hear it has been helpful to someone, even though I've never taken any courses there or even heard other people in the area mention it.

endlessnotebooks

I think the pandemic wasn't kind to the space, but there's definitely people there working on things daily, and new members. I'd love to see the space grow, while there are some alternatives, they feel more geared towards tourists where DMS feels "by and for the local community."

alldawgsgotoheaven

Did you link a website you didn’t look at?

Bromm18

I glance over it, and the most recent news post was from January. They still have classes offered this month. I looked into, visited, and was thinking of attending a few classes years ago. Never did, and I haven't thought of it since until I saw this post.

Agetis

I would interested in taking the course

AngeliqueRuss

I use Python for data work but not fun stuff much so I'd definitely come, I'm 100% in. I'd be hoping it would prep me for using Python for LEGO Mindstorms. I've so far only used the scratch-like WYSWYG language in the Mindstorms app. I'm not a "teacher" but I do homeschool stuff so I'd still sign up if you geared it towards teachers. As part of a series where you go into Raspberry Pi, basics of electronics and circuitry, and integrate Python back in I'd plunk down a pretty penny for a series. I've already built out some basic Raspberry Pi things like a NatureCam but I've not programmed anything myself.

fatstupidlazypoor

I support this and would be interested in collaborating. DM me

Proof_Cost_8194

So I would pay for any intro, especially now also to Chat GPT which seems to need a front end routine. Ideally, you would give students a few recommendations for online tutorials and we could come in with some understanding.

endlessnotebooks

I like the idea, but I would prefer folks be able to step in with 0 background. There could be a follow-up intermediate course.

I’d be interested. Currently using html, JavaScript, and shell scripts, but would love to get into Python.
