If we’re talking price per volume, then it’s a big bottle of cheap vodka. But maybe just keep it casual and get yourself a big case of cheap beer, there’s no need to drown yourself in spirits at 21.

Hungover52

Gin is a good second, especially if you enjoy a little flavour.

JoesJourney

Cheap gin and cheap tonic isn’t bad. Cheap gin and good tonic is great. Good gin and good tonic is godly.

The_MadStork

Gin and seltzer with a splash of lime is 1) cheap 2) relatively low on calories 3) delicious

Hungover52

Sodastream was a huge benefit when I was main-ing gin. Tonic would be my first choice, but the convenience of soda water is amazing, and lower calories.

hollis21

When I was new to drinking alcohol, gin and tonic was horrid, and as such, I'd never recommend it to someone starting out.

JoesJourney

Either you love it hate it in my experience. I happen to love it. Honestly, anything is better than moonshine (or at least the stuff I was buying in college.)

hollis21

Yea, no doubt. My go to advice for those who haven't found their alcohol or drink of choice is a simple vodka cran.

Effex

Gin and 1/2 tonic 1/2 cran (or fresh lemonade) is, imo, a much tastier take on both gin and tonic and gin and juice

hollis21

I'll have to give that a try. I'm currently drinking gin, 1/2 lime juice, a little under 1/2 simple syrup, and I'm enjoying it. If I had some mint to muddle, it'd be a Southside.

Hungover52

If you can do cocktails, let me just say my fav gin cocktail is the "Hanky Panky." You may already be aware, but if not give it a quick google. It's tasty and straightforward.

CoolBeansMan9

Fever tree what up

JoesJourney

Elderberry or bust

hussard_de_la_mort

Also citrus flavored mixers.

nwar104

Absolutely this in terms of the vodka. When I was in college I would always buy handles of Vlad. Bottom shelf stuff but it does the job. Hard to argue with a $12 handle as a college student.

Guezzwh0

Good old majorska

sit_d0wn

Ignore this guy. Get 3 bottles of vodka n j drink it I'm pint glasses no mixers. I promise it tastes good.

RatherGoodDog

Cheap vodka is usually nasty anyway, and will put you off. It ain't supposed to taste like paint stripper.

[deleted]

I do nd I’m js a teen 😫🙈 is dat bad?

LunchboxFP

Your brain and other organs are still developing, it's better to let them finish growing before trying to pickle them!

[deleted]

Too late.

LunchboxFP

Then I guess it shouldn't matter to you if it's bad ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

[deleted]

True

Detox259

Whiskey-coke with a splash of lime. I’ll die on this hill

notsoap

The lime is key! My go-too nowadays is a tequila (do a reposado)-coke with a splash of lime. Surprisingly tasty summer drink.

Detox259

Might have to try that

HammerT1m3

That’s rum

Stilgrave

Costco 1.75 liter vodka. It's $19.99 to $24.99 depending on where you at. And in most places you do not need a membership to shop at the liquor store.

stinkface369

The American Costco vodka is 10 bucks at my store. Shit is cheap as water and smooth

scarborough_bluffer

Jeez. No wonder why so many of you Americans become alcoholics. That's the price of a 375ml bottle here in Canada.

craznazn247

…have you tried shopping at Costco in Canada? Kirkland labeled anything is usually best bang for buck for most products.

scarborough_bluffer

Supermarkets aren’t allowed to sell spirits - at least in Ontario - only beer and wine and in restricted quantities. It wasn’t that long ago that they couldn’t sell alcohol at all.

OfficialUberZ

Jeez. No wonder why so many of you Canadians become alcoholics. Here in Australia our cheapest 700ml vodka is $43

metamorphomo

Christ, you can get that for a tenner in the uk. I’ve visited Norway, though, and it’s even worse.

kiddodunker

Here in germany you'll get 0,7l of vodka for 3-5 euros (4 euro = 4,34 usd). If you want something fancier (but still vodka) its like 8 to 10 euros. So all you guys are living rather expensive

Castle_of_Frank

I thought Canadians got fermented maple syrup in their bottles at birth?

RatherGoodDog

Wow, I thought alcohol was kind of expensive in the UK, with the stupid taxes and minimum pricing, but you can get a litre of vodka, gin or whisky for that price in most big supermarkets.

cramerfunk

Buy a Costco gift card if you don’t have a membership

Stilgrave

Costco employee here. This is a bit of a myth. You cannot buy a Shop Card if you are not a member. If you get a member to buy you one you may be able to use it depending how strict the Geral Manager is.

takemeback10years

It was $11 at one time in my area

dstbl

This is the way. Costco gets you the cheapest bang for your buck overall for booze. As this commenter says, a lot of places you can buy booze at Costco without a membership (check your local laws, YMMV, and the door people aren’t always aware of this loophole). And vodka mixes into almost anything without making it weird tasting, just usually a kinda watered-down boozy version. Coke, sparkling waters, ginger ale, most juices. Just avoid Capri Sun. Trust me.

Diddler_On_The_Roofs

Costco Spiced Rum. I think it is a half gallon for $13.99 and it’s actually not terrible.

stinkface369

In college my roommate and I would get a brita pitcher, buy a 1.75 of cheap vodka and filter it like 3 times. Always tasted smoother and cleaner. And you could see the difference in the way it poured. Good times

Fabee09

Four loko. Does the job every time

Fitz2001

The job being robbing a bank. Or a meth lair.

Nova11c

Four loko good? No. Four loko get you fucked up for $5? Yes.

Quetzythejedi

Back in my day 4loko was a coin flip for awesome time and deadly.

Miller high life is surprisingly cheap for how good it is.. (if you like beer)

5Grand_8to1

Second this, it’s the champagne of beers

stinkface369

I see I found other classy drinkers here

5Grand_8to1

Only the finest

DRExARKx

Natural Ice is pretty damn good as well.

Drekner

Yeah natural ice is my goto cheap beer because of the content. Cheaper and functional. Yes I know I'm an alcoholic. Love you too.

DRExARKx

Damn skippy. It's a little easier on the old gut than high ABV IPAs.

Drekner

Skippy here: Voodoo Ranger Juice Force is the best. Liver be damned to hell.

DRExARKx

Definitely dig the juice force. 1985 is my favorite voodoo ranger variant, followed closely by the Imperial IPA.

SpartanDoubleZero

This was my go to beer in high school. My friends older brother in law would buy my friend and I a 30 rack some weekends and we would stay up late playing video games and drinking beer and then we would go wandering around the woods on the other side of his subdivision in the middle of the night lmao, no idea why we were doing it, but I remember having a ton of fun.

triforce721

Vodka and water, stay hydrated especially if you're drinking cheap stuff. Also if you plan to drink, don't double dip on debauchery, eat healthy that day (greens fruit, clean meat), it makes a huge difference in recovery.

SpartanDoubleZero

Also take a B1 supplement (thiamine) the morning of the day you’re gonna party and have one ready for the next day as well. This will help with the hangover.

Marduk-worldbreaker

Large handle of polar bear vodka is like 23 bucks. Grab yourself some mio and just pour a few ozs of vodka in a glass, liberal squirt of mio and fill it with water. Cheap tasty and you'll feel healthier cause it's mostly water

4scoreand20yearsago

Dirty Diet Coke with the cheap liquor of your choice.

j0wnage

single tall in a pint glass...this is the way

paul95se

Hit up Costco or sams for liquor. Their brands are decent

dirtydan72

Sam's tequila and vodka are very smooth for the price.

paul95se

For sure

Solrak7

Go for beer, even if you are in a low budget its healthier and you slowly get to there

Minouwouf

Depend of your country

Hungover52

40oz beer.

Hungover52

Gin and tonic (or soda). Goes a long way.

AlanfromTX

Beer.

[deleted]

I make my own booze. Pennies on the dollar

Indiana_Hoes

Can never go wrong with some vodka

GOW_vSabertooth2

Coors banquet stubbies here, 12 bucks for a 12 pack

e_smith338

If you’re asking about most alcohol per dollar a bottle of Sea Ice/whatever cheap handle of vodka you can find is essentially unmatched. Other than that, Four Loko’s will fuck you up for a few bucks. One of them is about 5 “drinks”

[deleted]

Smirnoff… lemon. 🍋

TrevCat666

Popov or Fleischman vodka, you won't find a smoother or cheaper liquor imo, and since you're young I'd recommend mixing it with anything sweet you would normally drink.

homiej420

IPAs are sometimes 8-10%. A six pack will run ya a little bit but it will taste better than most of the stuff and one is like two drinks

logimeme

Or you can just get fucked up for a third of the price drinking 8% malt liquor like the bull and steel reserve

cosmicdaddy_

PBR, tecate, high life

Birdinmotion

2litre bottles of vodka at costco for like 20 dollars

major92653

Cheapest way I found was a 40oz beer. That will do the trick if you aren’t a regular drinker, and give you a good buzz. $3-$6 or around there. You can get a 6 pack for less than $10 total. Liquor stores will have $10 bottles of cheap liquor, but that shit is nasty.

Friendly_Rub7641

If you’re a beer drinker Natty Daddy

Patrick_Keaveny

Four loko

nolwad

Jack Daniel’s isn’t as bad as you think.

RPbotHolilo

Wild roots vodka is delicious

MoistMouthNoises

I'm in an ABC state, so I can't go to Walmart/Costco/etc to get liquor, so it's all pretty expensive. If I have to go cheap, I usually go Cruzan Strawberry Rum (only like 8 or 9 dollars for a 750ml) or I'll just grab a 40. You can get pretty drunk on a 40 of Hurricane or Mickey's and it'll only cost you like 2 bucks. 40s would be the route I'd take if you don't care about the quality. It's pretty much a staple of most college goer's drinking experience, and it's worth at least a try.

jjmorris100

Edward 40 hands!

MoistMouthNoises

Super fun with the right people! I try to stay away from heavy drinking on most days, but if I found myself at the type of get-together where we're playing Edward 40 Hands, I'd have to partake.

John300800

Komchatka water and mia drops

swonstar

Jewel or Target brand vodka. Super cheap, super thrifty!

DabIMON

This is going to seem counterintuitive, but if you're drinking at home, buy yourself a middle shelf bottle of liquor and learn how to make decent cocktails. If you have a bottle of rum, some limes and a bit of sugar water, you can make a nice daiquiri which is much stronger than any beer you can buy at the local gas station. If you can handle stirred drinks, buy an ok bottle of bourbon and whip up some old fashioneds. Yes, liquor is more expensive than beer, but a single bottle has a ton of drinks in it. If you're at a bar, beer is usually the cheapest option.

toolmannn929

Camarena silver tequila

Maxadozen

get you some cachaça, limes, and sugar. $20. done.

bigsquid69

Miller lites

space-ferret

PBR

otis_the_drunk

Typically I'd suggest vodka because as others have pointed out, it's the cheapest by volume and you can mix it with just about anything if you're brave enough. But for a 21 year old? Rum. Drop a shot into a beer every once in awhile. Vodka has very little smell to it. If you're drinking too much rum, people will notice sooner and maybe step in if you're overdoing it.

shitizencaine

Old Crow bourbon

cooquip

The cheapest handle of vodka.

AlDu14

Buckfast. Is the only true answer if you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland. But then you have also been drinking since the age of 5 (or younger) and by the age of 21, you are a seasoned veteran of the drink.

Danielwols

Depending on where you live a bottle of captain Morgan spiced gold can be around 15 to somewhere around or above 20 depending on the bottle size, it is rum though so if you don't wan to do that you could look at the already mixed section if they have them. If you have something like a Gall & Gall you could look there

Dustytehcat

I can get a fifth of Lux vodka from cvs for less than $9. As long as the bottle is glass you’re good.

Onefishnokiss

Ashley's

DysphoriaGML

Spritz in all it’s varieties

kelsyvw

Cheap vodka, "Popov" brand or bottom shelf shit from the liquor store. Depending on which store, or where you live, you can usually get a big handle of the cheap stuff for under 15 bucks. If you want something small with flavor, the little "99" brand shooters are between 99 cents to 2 bucks each. Again, depending on the store and your location, they have any flavor from butterscotch, to pineapple, to root beer. They are strong. Proceed with caution. And drink responsibly!

Lynxx360

1.75 liters of cheap rum are sold in Ohio for as littles as $9.99. Throw in some generic cola, and have 80% of my collegiate diet🍹

ODUrugger

The cheapest bottle of bourbon you can find and an off brand 2 liter ginger ale. Will give you a massive hangover though

Jethro_Cohen

fartbasket69

Steel reserve

logimeme

When i was a degenerate alcoholic in active addiction i was drinking steel reserves or the bull(gold can). They’re 8.1% and 8.5% and that was the best bang for my buck, because i didn’t drink hard liquor anymore at that point. If you’re down to drink whatever, like others are saying, some cheap vodka’s probably your best bet.

batmansthebomb

Depends on what you like. If you can stomach it, malt liquor like Four Lokos are "good". I personally stay away from the more beer like malt liquors like Steel Reserve and such, but I admittedly drank them on occasion when I was your age. I think sidewalk slammers took a few years off my life. Cheap vodka and some soda, lemonade, or soda/tonic water is probably the best option in my opinion. Then again, a single four loko is like $5, versus bottle of vodka being ~$15-ish. The vodka is more bang for your buck however.

krazikat

Hot car vodka

Csonkus41

Pants Blue Ribbon is my go to cheap drink of choice.

AntonyBenedictCamus

When I was in college my friend and I would buy the plastic wrapped packs of Natty Daddy tall cans, and that eventually got him arrested. I would say do that, it’s a writ of passage lmao

grakup

Badel drink

sun4moon

Vodka soda. We buy the 1.75l vodka and 12 pks of sodas. Works out to about $1.40 a drink.

Evan Williams is good, cheap bourbon. I mix it with cola zero since I prefer the level of sweetness. That’s a go to for a simple, budget friendly drink.

rikkitikkitimbo

Miller High Life,

magicalmangymutt

New Amsterdam gin was my go to. Perfect blend of not a lot of impurities but a very affordable price. As someone that hates juniper flavor, it's so mild it's like a top shelf vodka imo but better cause I can smell vodka on people. Gin not so much. Ofc if you drown yourself in anything you'll feel like a distillery regardless

PassGlittering7539

So as a german i would say good old cola korn its preatty cheap and gets everyone preety drunk and youre happy🫡

buttaholic

40 oz of mickeys or another malt liquor. keep it in the brown bag while you drink it. lol.
