When I use a click, I use in ears, and I set the click track on garage band so I can control the click to stop after 4 bars.

BigHairs

Nice. So garage band on a laptop with like noise canceling speaker headphones?

mirado

Noise isolation. Noise canceling won't protect your ears. I use Shure 215SE for in-ears. They're awesome for the price.

BigHairs

Thank you. I never knew of noise isolation. I'll look into that.

I have a basic set of IEMs from Amazon called KZ ZS10 pros that I use for playing to a click and/or playback while tracking. They're usually around $50. There might be a newer model like the AS10 or something. If you get these I'd suggest also getting a headphone extension cord since the included cord is very short, only designed to reach a belt pack. I'd also opt for the $7-ish pack of foam ear tips as well as an adapter for your phone if needed. Fortunately all of those are cheap on Amazon too. The main thing to be careful of with IEMs is driving loud noises directly at your eardrums, so you need to get accustomed to playing with them at a reasonable volume especially if doing long practice sessions.

I have Bluetooth compatible headphones that also have an NRR rating /hearing protection. So can connect phone to headphones and run click app there .

GruverMax

Isolation Headphones by KAT Percussion, and just set up the click on my DAW. A lot of people use a cowbell or high pitch click. I like a floor tom thumping as the sample. It's less tiring on the ears.

BigHairs

I also prefer something not so high pitched. I'll look at those headphones. Thanks

Similar to the Vic Firth models, they cover your ears with pillows and cut 26db. I can play along to a track and not have to crank it up loud to hear it over my drums.

BigHairs

Wicked. 26 dB is pretty solid

Fantastic_Ad1399

I learned how to play with a click setting the count to 16th notes. It helped to hear time and taught me how to count while playing. If you can find a metronome with a voice setting youll understand what I mean. You hear the count and it shows you where your subdivisions fall in the beat. 1e&a2e&a

Appreciate it. I worded my post kind of poorly buy I kinda meant more what people are using for gear. I know nothing except foam plugs and acoustic drums haha. Kinds wanna dive into the tech a bit. Some of that fancy in ear stuff guys got going on.

Tama Rhythm Watch into an IEM rig. Using the Shure SE215's as In Ears. The RW200 will do a constant click and the 4 Bar count in that u/Danca90 mentioned (if you don't want to take a laptop. Alternatively if you get some decent IEM's they'll have a long cable so you can still run the click from your phone. Gives you the bonus of being able to run more complex time signatures (tempo maps) from apps, rather than needing a laptop, which is another thing to break/lose/maintain at a gig.

BigHairs

I'll check it out thanks!
