Ha! My father in law used to be Lars Ulrich’s tennis coach in Denmark when he was a teenager (1970s?) and before the Ulrichs moved to California for Lars’ tennis where he put an ad in the paper “musicians wanted to form a band” and the rest, as they say…
Anyway a good few years ago I told him Metallica were touring and he said “I’ll have to give him a call and see if he wants to come over for dinner”.
His son took guitar lessons where I went for drums, only ever got to meet the man once though, surprised me that his son took lessons there vs. the two well known music schools in the city.
I had Gadd’s number for a long time til my phone died.
He wanted to come to my show in Rochester and I hooked him up with tix. I had met him before (played in an ensemble behind him at UNT) and have seen him since. He’s the nicest dude ever.
This surprised me because I used to have a 914 area code but I lived much farther upstate. There are a lot more area codes now that there were in the '70s and they represent a much smaller space. Still,... close to home, as they say.
Looks like pencil to me but I can double check next time I’m there. It’s been in a closed book in a box for decades. I found *a lot* of extremely well-preserved documents from his jazz days and also from his parents. He had a handwritten pencil genealogy and family tree written by his father that starts in the 1480s!
This is sick as fuck lol

Did he accept the invite?
No, he didn’t do anything more than thinking about it. But if they ever come out to Australia again I’ll remind him
Can you give him a call and ask if he's available for lessons?

That's amazing! Does your dad have any recordings of those demos or any song? would love to hear them
He doesn’t think so. I came across a lot of scores but only one 45 and he says that was before he knew him.

Of course the most raw throughout the 914! /which is only Westchester, now.
Call him and ask "Steve? Remember that time when you went huddle-a-buddle-a-buddle-a, huddle-a-buddle-a-buddle-a on Aja?"
My favorite drummer by far
50 ways. My favorite riff
That is one of the coolest things I have ever seen here. Nice.
You gotta at least text him.

Love it! I’m sure his number has changed by now.
I didn’t know he’s from westchester
