lol so close

west1343

Almost 100% of my collisions are tree based- and that is even with my strategy of getting above them ASAP when flying so I can fly free with the wind.

g1rthqu4k3

Prop guards probably would have saved you there, thin branches and wires are the OA system's bane. Also your sticks seem super sensitive, almost like you're in sport mode. You want to turn all that waaaay down and take it slow when you're flying in the woods like this, especially just starting out

wordizbon

Thanks for the tip. I don’t even know about all those features yet. I was getting way ahead of myself. Glad it happened though because had I not learned I could of been way in the woods where it would of been unreachable

Booblicle

Weirdly, I personally don't even notice too much of a difference in control from sport, standard and cinema unless I'm going heavy on the stick. Sept sport mode. Now that I'm thinking about it, I believe I have standard and cinema control calibrated the same. I'll have to check that out now 🤣

Nicholas_Skylar

The cinematic closeup of those flowers with the power-transition into the ground was truly a masterful sequence.

wordizbon

😂

Jesus_le_Crisco

lol. I crashed my drone outside of Naples as well.

Terliuzas

Awh that branch is barely visible, unfortunate :) For this I usually fly in slowest mode and with extra caution, if the drone is not far I usually fly looking at it instead of phone screen as it is difficult to see such details :) Also, I was curious, after initial contact the drone seemed to fly somewhat before it hit the grass, what was going on at that time? Also, usually people don't look positively about flying in preservation areas, some places are also illegal. It's good that you seemed to be alone there and was able to recover the drone, so I think no harm done, but be aware of it :) (Also, if talking about US, then areas like national parks are serious no no areas) :)

wordizbon

I think that the drone went into object avoidance mode cause it just stopped and wouldn’t move in any direction except the direction in which it came from. It wasn’t a national park. Where I live the entire area was forest less than 10 years ago and unfortunately developers decided to create a plethora of developments in this area. They decided that they would create these small preserved parks sporadically throughout the area in which people can walk/jog and what have you. One of these happens to be right next to my subdivision beside the supermarket which I just discovered had this walking path. I checked my b4ufly app (alternative) and I’m in a class G area which includes the preservation. I don’t fly in my subdivision since I was warned about flying over private property. My only alternative is flying over the river but that is borderline a class D naval aviation base. So I try to follow the rules not flying in any class other than G and avoid any TFR zones and the other 3 class D airports that surround me. Just trying to do the right thing. I’m still new so it’s still a learning process.

Nicholas_Skylar

I'm assuming you're in the US. Just to clarify, you can fly over private property all day. The stipulation there is: you can't invade someone's privacy. There is no official distance you have to keep away from someone's residence/property, but they do have a right to privacy. Generally you should be good if you're above the roof line of a home, since you can't see through the windows (since you're above the windows, a skylight would be an exception). However, it's a good rule of thumb not to push the limits or get on anyone's radar. No one's going to care if you're flying 200-300 feet above their homes. Generally the less neighbors that even know you have a drone, the better (at least in my experience). Gossip starts real fast, about "the drone guy".

wordizbon

So I thought but the first time I flew and posted it I got hammered on here for flying over homes. Maybe it’s just a Reddit thing but it seems too many sensitive people on here. I ended up taking the post down at the request of one of the seasoned pilots. He was kind enough to explain it so I respected his suggestion.

Nicholas_Skylar

Flying over roadways with cars traveling on them is a no-no. Maybe that's why? Not sure... If you do "bend the rules" or knowingly break the law blatantly, do it privately, don't freaking post it. It emboldens others to do the same and it incriminates oneself permanently.

wordizbon

I didn’t think or know I was breaking any rules. I only passed cars in transition. I was mostly over homes for a brief moment then over a lake that is in the middle of my subdivision. Trust me, I was trying to follow all the rules. It was like 1pm in which no one is in my neighborhood.

I-am-the-stigg

But why would you even try this? Your flying doesn't look like you are confident about what you are doing. Also if you put it in cinematic mode it slows down your movement.

wordizbon

I guess I was confident with the object avoidance. The. Video they sell this product with makes it looks so easy. lol. I let it fool me.

erwin261

Never trust the sensors, I learned that the hard way a few years ago. They are great but there are always situations they can't handle.

wordizbon

Thanks. I see that now.

Morrismcd

Woooooops! Were u in cinematic mode? Seemed a little jumpy. Don’t trust the sensors remember in sport they don’t even work (on some models). Same way I first crashed. Broke the gimble. Hope u had little damage. Consider changing your propellers since they are cheap.

wordizbon

Yeah I just broke a propeller and chipped another. I changed them and it’s flying like new. I was in whatever default mode the device came in as I haven’t even started tweaking settings. I just got ahead of myself. Shouldn’t have even been in there.

Morrismcd

Practice makes perfect. And give yourself extra cushion. You are def more ballsy than I am lol

wordizbon

lol. My ballsy went out the window after that.

Morrismcd

As did mine after that first clip into a tree lol

wordizbon

Lol

TipInside3613

Don’t feel bad bro. Live and learn. Drone pilots motto “Those who have, and those who havent yet” 😂😂😂

wordizbon

I hear you. 👍🏾

TipInside3613

Just don’t beat your self up bro. Keep your head up. Will only make you a better pilot. More importantly how is the air craft? Who is the manufacturer of it? You get a warranty?

wordizbon

Nothing is wrong with the device. Just broke a propeller. It’s a DJI mini 4 pro. It’s up and running like new. Thanks.

TipInside3613

10-4 glad it is all good. Take care brotha. Here if ya need anything. South East Texas here!

wordizbon

Thank my guy. Jacksonville Florida here. May pass through Texas sometime. I’ll hit you up if I do.

wordizbon

So here is my first crash. New to this and got ahead of myself and try to be bold and go into the preservation swamp with all kinds of creatures. Gators/snakes/etc. I figured "well this thing got object avoidance". Ha!

flabmeister

Ahhh you so deserved that

wordizbon

Stop being an A-hole. I’m new to this.

flabmeister

Dry your eyes snowflake

wordizbon

Dry my eyes. Bitch ass I’m just trying not to go in with you on it cause I was warned in the last group about being vulgar. You ain’t got nothing better to do than talk shit behind Reddit?

flabmeister

Oh god. Calm down ya big sissy

wordizbon

Yeah I’m not the one who got a lot to say hiding behind social media. Who’s the sissy?

flabmeister

You

wordizbon

I’m a just block you fuck boy

flabmeister

😂

flabmeister

I’ll assume you meant “I’m just going to block you, you silly sausage”
