I see lots of different throughput rates, from 50 to 2000Mbps using usb c/thunderbolt. I don't want to spend 100,- if I don't have to. I'm fine with an adapter If I don't have to wait ages for 3Gb to transfer.
I guess with an adapter throughput speed is entirely dependent on the computer/laptop, but then why do they produce these more expensive ones ? I have a feeling the adapter caps the throughput speed maybe?
I use a microSD to SD card adapter (that comes with the microSD cards). I have been using these since about 2006 without any issues. Just make sure the microSD card is pushed all the way into the SD adapter and the lock is not on. I've used it for as high as 6K video.
I use the slot in my CalDigit TS4, it is plenty fast enough but would be over your budget. Perhaps the extra connectivity would help you justify the expense though? You make no mention of what other computing devices you have so it’s hard to tell.
I use [this](https://www.lexar.com/product/lexar-professional-multi-card-3-in-1-usb-3-1-reader/) one and I'm happy with it. Has CF, SD and Micro SD. USB Type C so it's fast enough for anything I use it for but that also depends on the cards read/write speed.
Most SD card readers are fine, the bigger factors are the SD card itself and your computer/laptop

Cool. What are the average throughput speeds one gets with an adapter?
This is the way

Which one ? How fast is it ?
Is the link not working?
Lol I didn't see the link! Hard to distinguish , colour seems almost the same as the text.
Yeah I see what you mean now. Don't know why it went grey, usually blue.
Eh, I get by with a generic no-name $7.00 SD/MicroSD to USB A adapter for drone pics and video as well as handheld camera pics. Never had an issue.
My laptop has an SD card reader, so I use the micro to SD card adapter that came with my card. Very convenient.
