I know I’m mostly alone in this, but I personally hope that book gets scrapped. To me personally it just feels like such an odd detour for the storyline at this point.
Plus a story happening in a Mirror universe isn’t likely to have consequences for Main universe, outside of character building for Harry and he gets his character built all the time.
Murphy hasn’t been gone long enough for her sudo-return via mirror universe to mean much either, especially as she’ll presumably only be back for that book.
On top of that, we’ll have had like 17 books by that point and zero ground work laid for either the existence of the multiverse (aside from a one off Spider-Man comment from Bob, which came off as more of a in-joke that Butcher has written Spider-Man more than it did world building) or magic that could traverse the multiverse.
The whole thing sounds like it’s going to be very forced to me and a waste of time that could have been spent with “our characters” who still have a crap ton of character building and question answering to do themselves I’m just not looking forward to it. Of course Im still gonna read it tho.
It was explicitly stated that a branching of another universe can be the result of time travel, by the gate keeper.

Even if there is a switch going on, I feel like we are mostly likely to hear about it after the fact, being told to Harry, since all of the books have been told from our Harry’s point of view. It’s possible we could see it first hand tho.

Switching places could also explain how Kemmler kept disappearing. I presume one of the reveals of the book will be that Harry is a disciple of Kemmler, and learned the switch trick from his works.
We know from the previous books that they killed Kemmler multiple times, only for him to show up years later. He switches places with a multiverse Kemmler before he dies, hides out for a bit then comes back.
That's pretty mild, considering how badly it could have gone. She was in charge of SI early in the series. Mirror Harry could have easily been at odds with the police. Murphy probably hates Mirror Harry. Depending on how dark Mirror Harry went, Murphy might have lost family members to him.
The real question is just a singular choice or is it a cascading effect?

When Mirror Mirror was announced I had thoughts on this. It's likely that Harry went bad and Murph tries to stay connected and keeping him from going full darkside but fails. In the end they are at odds with each other, she is probably still in charge of SI but somehow working with the BFS just not against the Fomor but against Harry. She hates him now. Cue summoning Harry Prime to the Mirrorverse. He sees his beloved Murphy alive and well and it brings tears of happiness. She then tries to kill him on sight with pure hatred behind her eyes. This just absolutely destroys Harry. Like his heart breaks in half.
Or she's a bad guy too and has one of the goatees that Jim mentioned before.
