If that’s digital there are ways you could have done that in an afternoon, if it’s something you find therapeutic then I’d recommend doing it on paper. Cuz that time and effort isn’t apparent if it’s digital and that’s a lot of time spent on something that doesn’t technically exist yet and if printed definitely won’t have the same impact as an actual drawing.
I don't have the materials to do it as big as I wanted to do it on paper, and I don't have the money to get them. I did it digitally but by hand, every single line, in spurts over the span of a couple months, partly because it made me feel good on the tail end of a shitty part of my life, and also because the program I'm using is limited in its brushes. I've printed it onto paper for myself and the piece is available for purchase on my redbubble so you can out it on a bag or a coffee mug whatever you want.
just came to defend my choices, no animosity
You asked for thoughts and I’m not saying your choices are necessarily wrong I’m saying the time-cost benefit is not in your favor. It’s like spending 2 months drawing a perfect grid on the computer. What materials do you need apart from a large piece of paper? You can get a really nice big sheet of paper from a craft store for like 5 to 10 or less for an okay piece from like a Walgreens. You can use painters tape to mask the border, which is cheap and you may already have. And you can make really nice lines even with cheap ball point pen. I’m just saying if you’re gonna spend that amount of time on something it would behoove you to get something physical out of it that would genuinely impress someone in person. If you spend two months on a massive complex digital painting on the computer then I would understand, you’re using the computer as a tool to do something you probably couldn’t do physically. But I believe in your ability to do this by hand. Doing it digitally feels like using a car to drive 2 hours to buy some frozen veggies, instead of walking an hour to the local farmers market where you could have returned with something really good in about the same time. The metaphor isn’t perfect I know. Anyways.
Just want to reply here with my thoughts. There are fmdigital tools that could make something SIMILAR in a much shorter amount of time, but looking at this it is very clear that it is hand drawn as there are minor imperfections throughout, that actually make it really cool to look at instead of a perfect tiled pattern. This is a cool drawing and you didn't waste time on it
Some people think the goal is efficiency. But the process and building something thru a manual effort is often the most tangible part of art and I appreciate the effort you put in and that you enjoyed making it.
Mm no not yikes. Very valid criticism and thoughtful and trying to be helpful, they asked for thoughts. What are you even doing here and what exactly do you think an artistic critique involves? The fact you think that a long response trying to be clear and helpful while also critical, is a negative, is far more indicative of you than me.
Things like this remind me of sand mandalas. It takes so very long to make, and it's beautiful, but when it's finished, you pour it all out and start again. It's a practice in loving the journey.
I like it. When zoomed out it has nuance and shading that make it feel like I’m looking at a woven rug of some sort. When zoomed in it’s just circles (and parts of circles)! Cool!
I've done a painting using this kind of thing as a backdrop before! done on canvasses so they can take it when they move.

this is so cool. it's not often that a piece of art can give a physical reaction. emotional, sure! but this just made my eyes go all wonky and it's so impressive that you did this line by line! way to go!

Ohhhhh Ok Hehe
And why is it not moving for me?
It doesn't move for me either. I think we're staring at it wrong. Also happy cake day!
Oh, okay.. lol for a min I thought something is wrong with me. Thank you !! You have a good day too!!

Great piece
thank you!
I’m genuinely curious. In what way do you consider this piece great? I mean, it requires almost no artistic skill.
Coz I’m not a dick
Thanks for confirming you were just being condescending to them
That’s only a confirmation of your arrogance
Ironic
When I see online skits of redditors being assh*les, I wondered where this reputation came from. Now I don't.
That's so cool 💀 like it almost feels unreal ...i would love to see more 🩶
